Chapter 1258 Way Out

In Xianyang, Yu Jiao sat on the couch, looking out the window at the drizzle outside, a little absent-minded. It had been raining for the past few days, and it was a bit cold in the mountains in late autumn, so Cheng Ying took her to the house at the foot of the mountain.

She has been trapped in Xianyang for more than a month. Her senior brother used hot weapons in the siege a few days ago. She wondered if Yu Qizhe was injured?

She didn't dare to ask Cheng Ying too much, as the name Yu Qizhe seemed like a taboo between the two of them.

But it is not a solution to continue to be in a stalemate like this. We have to face it. Even if the process is unbearable, the situation outside will always have a winner.

Yu Jiao didn't dare to think too deeply about it but she did think about it. Her elder brother Liu Ziqi had already become the emperor and could command the world. Cheng Ying was trapped in this corner of Xianyang. She was a stubborn disease that would have to be removed sooner or later.

No emperor would allow a city to be in the hands of others and out of his control.

What awaits Senior Brother may be a dead end...

Yu Jiao wanted to escape from Xianyang City and go to see Liu Ziqi to beg him to spare her brother's life.

But there was no way her senior brother would let her go now. Yu Jiao pressed her brows in annoyance. Her head hurt a little and she really couldn't think of a good way to break the impasse.

"I heard from the servants that you have no appetite today." Cheng Ying walked out from the rain with an umbrella and a food box in her hand.

When he reached the door, he handed the bamboo paper umbrella to the servant, placed the food box on the red lacquered carved round table, and said to Yu Jiao in a gentle voice: "I made your favorite lotus shrimp balls and steamed meatballs. Come and try them."

Yu Jiao sat up from the couch and was about to bend down to put on her shoes when Cheng Ying came over. He bent his knees and squatted down. He picked up the embroidered shoes on the ground with his slender five fingers and put them on Yu Jiao's feet.

Yu Jiao panicked and subconsciously raised her foot to avoid it.

Cheng Ying did not allow her to refuse and grabbed her feet in white socks, completely covered her feet with her palms, and stuffed them into the embroidered shoes.

The temperature of his palm was still burning through the cloth on her feet. Yu Jiao hurriedly stopped him, "Brother, I can do it myself."

Cheng Ying didn't look at her, but carefully put on her shoes. When she stood up, she suddenly said, "After so many years, you have become estranged from me. In the past, you always pestered me to help you with these trivial matters, and never avoided suspicion like this."

Hearing the sadness in his voice, Yu Jiao's heart sank.

She bit her lip and whispered in defense: "Brother... I'm already married. I was young and ignorant before, so I treated you as my brother and had no scruples..."

Seeing Cheng Ying's handsome face turn cold, Yu Jiao twisted her fingers helplessly. She knew that her senior brother would be unhappy if she said this, but she couldn't help but say it.

Cheng Ying exhaled slowly, suppressed her anger, and said calmly: "Jiaojiao, I've heard enough of these words, don't say them again in the future."

After washing his hands, he sat down at the table and said to Yu Jiao who was still standing there, "Come over and have dinner." When he spoke again, his voice was gentle after being suppressed.

After Yu Jiao's servant brought a copper basin filled with clean water to wash her hands, she sat down at the table, lowered her head, and ate her food in silence.

"Does it still taste the same as before?" Cheng Ying ate very little and focused on picking food for her.

Yu Jiao felt bitter. The two dishes still had the familiar taste, but over the years, things and people had changed, and she and her senior brother had also become unrecognizable.

She nodded, hiding her red eyes, and praised: "Senior brother's cooking skills are as good as before."

"I remember that you like seafood. The transportation in Taiyan is not well developed. Jiaxing is close to the sea. I'll let you satisfy your craving when we get there." The coldness on Cheng Ying's face faded, and there was a hint of smile at the corners of his lips.

Yu Jiao listened to him mention Jiaxing again and again. She poked the rice in her bowl with her chopsticks, looking thoughtful. She asked tentatively, "Brother, has my elder brother... Liu Ziqi agreed to your terms?"

Cheng Ying wiped the corners of her lips with a handkerchief and said indifferently, "Whether you agree or not, it won't affect our going to Jiaxing."

So... is Jiaxing the last resort for Senior Brother? Yu Jiao thought about it. Jiaxing is close to the sea. Could it be that Senior Brother wants to go to sea?

Her pupils suddenly dilated, and she was slightly frightened by this guess.

Could it be that Senior Brother wants to imitate Xu Fu and cross the sea and never come back?

This seems to be able to solve the current deadlock, but... but... she can't just follow her senior brother like this, Yu Qizhe is still waiting for her.

In the evening, Xia Ning came. Yu Jiao saw him follow Cheng Ying into the study. Half an hour later, the two came out of the study.

Seeing her standing in the corridor, Cheng Ying took off her cloak and put it on her shoulders, "Why are you standing outside? It's cold and rainy, be careful not to catch a cold."

Yu Jiao gathered the cloak wrapped with Cheng Ying's body temperature and looked at Xia Ning behind him: "Where did Xia Shaocheng come from?" She had never seen Xia Ning around Cheng Ying in these days. He was covered in dust and obviously had just entered the city.

Xia Ning bowed slightly, glanced at Cheng Ying, and then said without hiding anything: "I came from the capital."

"The capital?" Yu Jiao's fingers tightened slightly around her cloak. "What's the situation in the capital?"

Xia Ning said: "Since the new emperor ascended the throne, things have stabilized."

Yu Jiao nodded slightly. She knew that she couldn't get any useful information from Xia Ning. She looked up at Cheng Ying and said, "Brother, I feel a little bored staying in the house. Can you accompany me to the city for a walk?"

Fearing that Cheng Ying would refuse, she continued, "I've been in Xianyang for so many days, but I've never seen what Xianyang City looks like. I'm really bored."

Cheng Ying laughed. He tapped Yu Jiao's fair and plump forehead with his knuckles and ordered the servants, "Prepare the car."

Then he said to Xia Ning: "Go and rest first."

Xia Ning left respectfully.

Cheng Ying held an umbrella in one hand and walked towards the front yard holding Yu Jiao's hand with the other. The umbrella was almost entirely tilted over her head, providing her with a dry space that was not affected by the rain. However, half of Cheng Ying's shoulders were exposed and were soon soaked by the rain.

When Yu Jiao saw this scene, she felt even more upset.

The better her senior treated her, the more she felt indebted and she was unable to repay him.

Arriving at the carriage parked by the screen wall, Cheng Ying stretched out her arm to help Yu Jiao onto the carriage, then she put away her umbrella, bent down and followed her in.

The carriage creaked and swayed as it left the house. Half an hour later, it stopped on the long street.

The street was not as deserted as Yu Jiao had imagined. The shops along the street were still bustling with business. It seemed that the tense situation outside the city had not affected the lives of the people inside.

Yu Jiao looked up at the long street and saw a clinic. She said to Cheng Ying, "Brother, I want to go in and take a look."

Cheng Ying accompanied her into the clinic. The clerk at the counter saw that the two of them were of noble appearance and good looks, so he smiled and asked, "What medicine would you like to get?"

Yu Jiao shook her head: "Let's just take a look."

Although the waiter felt a little strange that someone would come into the clinic without getting medicine and just look around, he still politely said, "Madam, please go ahead. Call me when you want medicine."

Yu Jiao didn't look for long before she and Cheng Ying left the clinic.

"Do you still want to open a clinic?" Cheng Ying asked.

She shook her head, raised her face and said seriously, "It's just that seeing the clinic reminds me of grandpa. We used to work under grandpa together. Although you were always praised and I was always scolded, but now thinking about it, I am so happy."

Cheng Ying held her hand tightly and hugged Yu Jiao's shoulders: "Although the teacher is gone, I will always be with you in the future."
