Yu Jiao cried until she felt weak all over and her legs were numb from squatting.
The maid ran over from behind her, holding a cloak in her arms, and helped her up from the ground.
"It's windy outside, girl, you'd better go back to the house. Look at your hands, they're so cold..." The maid put a cloak on her and helped Yu Jiao walk to the backyard.
Yu Jiao grabbed her wrist and followed the maid in a daze for a long time before she came back to her senses from her broken crying. The sound of gongs and drums came from outside, and it was already very late at night.
After returning to the room, the maid quickly fetched some hot water and asked Yu Jiao to wipe her face and body.
Yu Jiao soaked in the bathtub and gradually calmed down.
She couldn't be so indecisive any longer, dragging her feet and not facing the situation. Although it seemed gentle, it was actually a torture for everyone.
She couldn't bear to hurt her senior brother, but if she delayed it to the end, she would still hurt him.
A short pain is worse than a long one. Perhaps she should have cut the Gordian knot long ago.
Yu Jiao scooped up a handful of water, splashed it on her face, and made up her mind to escape from the city.
Yu Jiao didn't sleep well at night. She dreamed of Yu Qizhe. He had a cold and indifferent expression, as if he already knew about her and Cheng Ying. He waved away her hand that was pulling his sleeve, turned and left without ever looking back at her.
Then she dreamed that her senior brother was wearing a bloody shirt, and the hot blood splashed on her cheeks. He waved and said he was leaving. Yu Jiao staggered to follow him, but a thick fog arose around them. The thick fog quickly engulfed her senior brother's figure. She stumbled into the fog, but could not find him.
Yu Jiao was walking and crying in her dream, and suddenly woke up. Her pillowcase was wet. She was still frightened, and the uncomfortable feeling in the dream still lingered in her and did not go away for a long time.
She was no longer sleepy, so she got up from the bed, put on her coat, and opened the window. It was still dark outside, and a thick fog had appeared without her knowing. Although it was not as thick as in her dream, it still made her feel dizzy.
She sat by the window until dawn, changed her clothes and washed up, asked the maid about the location of the back kitchen, and went straight to the small kitchen.
She was the only female master in the courtyard, so the servants in the kitchen were particularly respectful. After preparing the ingredients Yu Jiao wanted, they waited by her side and listened to her instructions.
Yu Jiao didn't order them around, but busied herself skillfully in front of the stove, kneading the dough, and soon made some plain noodles. She scooped out three bowls, took two of them and put them in the food box, told the servant to take the other bowl to Xia Ning's room, and went to the front yard with the food box.
After passing through the corridor and going out of the second door, Yu Jiao stopped outside Cheng Ying's room.
The servant guarding the door saw her bowing and said, "The governor slept a little late last night and is still not awake."
In fact, last night after Cheng Ying called the maid to help Yu Jiao back to her room, she stood alone in Fangshan for a long time. Later, she returned to her room with the coolness of the autumn night. Her headache flared up and she tossed and turned for more than half an hour before falling asleep at the beginning of the morning hour.
"Then I'll wait. Don't wake up my brother." Yu Jiao lowered her voice.
The door suddenly opened from the inside. Cheng Ying rubbed his brows and looked tired. Seeing that it was Yu Jiao, his eyes softened and fell on the food box in her hand. He turned aside and smiled a little more: "Why did you think of bringing me food?"
Yu Jiao walked in carrying the food box. Cheng Ying asked the servants to bring in hot water for her to wipe her face and rinse her mouth. After cleaning up, she sat down at the table.
Yu Jiao had already opened the lunch box and took out the plain noodles.
Cheng Ying was slightly startled when he saw the noodles. He picked up the chopsticks and asked, "Did you make it yourself?"
Yu Jiao smiled slightly: "I haven't done it for a long time, Senior Brother, please try it."
Cheng Ying's eyes moved, and she clenched her chopsticks and started eating.
