After she finished speaking, she saw the young eunuch closed his eyes again, and then she realized that he had not woken up at all. She gently treated all the wounds on his back and gave him some medicine to take internally before leaving.
When Cheng Ying woke up the next day, the wound on his back didn't hurt as much anymore. He glanced at the medicine on the bedside table, which had already gone cold, but he still picked it up and drank it in one gulp.
In the evening, A Wu, the maid from Concubine Song's palace, came again. Seeing that Cheng Ying had woken up, she smiled at him and applied the medicine to him again. She spoke very little, but her smile was very gentle, like the tender yellow flowers blooming from the weeds growing on the roadside, inconspicuous but very bright.
When Cheng Ying was able to get out of bed, Ah Wu came to apply the medicine to him for the last time, "Do you want to go to the East Factory? Empress Song said that you can be transferred to the East Factory to work. Although it is a little quiet and remote over there, it is also quiet."
Emperor Mingzong did not like eunuchs to abuse their power. After he ascended the throne, the East Factory became a mere formality and was always on the sidelines. It was a place that no eunuch in the palace wanted to go to.
From then on, Cheng Ying went to work in the East Factory. The East Factory was remote, but the chief eunuch there was a man of real ability. It was said that he used to be a royal guard, but later he committed some mistake and was punished with castration and ended up in the East Factory.
After Cheng Ying had been in the East Depot for some time, the chief eunuch noticed his talent. As a rootless person thrown into this deserted East Depot, if he didn't find something to do, he would be counting the days until death. The chief eunuch was a guard by birth, so he often taught his subordinates martial arts. When he discovered Cheng Ying, a good talent, he held on to him and wanted to pass on all his martial arts to him.
The East Factory was a little far from Concubine Song's palace, but Ah Wu would often go there to bring some food to Cheng Ying, some of which were given by Concubine Song, and some of which she made herself.
In this huge palace, the two of them became increasingly familiar with each other, even though they were both people of few words.
Ah Wu would sometimes talk about things that happened in Concubine Song's palace. In the past two years, Emperor Mingzong went to Concubine Song's palace less and less frequently. The palace was a place where people would flatter the powerful and bully the weak, and as a result, the palace maids and eunuchs below began to bully their masters more and more.
She talked softly and Cheng Ying just listened quietly.
Not long after, A Wu came to Cheng Ying with a box of imperial cakes, her face full of joy, and said that Concubine Song was pregnant. This was a reward from Emperor Mingzong, and the Concubine Song was considerate of her servants, so she shared it with them.
Because of Concubine Song's pregnancy, their lives in Xiangzhu Palace became much better. However, not long after, their lives returned to being the same as before. Emperor Mingzong only rewarded Concubine Song once when he first heard that she was pregnant, and sat with her for a while. Later, he seemed to have forgotten about it. He thought that she was a concubine who was not taken seriously, so even if she was pregnant with the royal heir, she did not have any extra importance.
Besides, the Crown Prince and several other princes are already of adult age, each is capable and has already made their mark in the court. The Emperor has no shortage of heirs, so he probably doesn't take it too seriously.
The days passed by in such a dull manner until the day when Concubine Song gave birth. Ah Wu stumbled to find Cheng Ying, saying that Concubine Song had a difficult delivery and was afraid that she would not survive. The midwife said that the fetus was in an abnormal position. The imperial physician from the Imperial Hospital took a look and said that there was nothing that could be done.
After she and Cheng Ying became familiar with each other, she learned that he knew some medical skills. Even the strange dagger, scissors and curved needle he wanted were obtained by Ah Wu who asked someone to go out of the palace to get them. Cheng Ying had also mentioned the use of the knives.
She was so confused at the moment and had no one to turn to, so she came to Cheng Ying crying.
The imperial physician of the Imperial Medical Bureau was afraid of getting into trouble, so he spread his hands and said that there was nothing he could do, then he walked away. After all, this was not the emperor's favorite concubine.
People were also sent from Xiangzhu Palace to look for Emperor Mingzong, but he was resting in the Imperial Concubine's Palace, and no news was reported for half an hour. Ah Wu was really at a loss, and seeing that Concubine Song had fainted, she came to look for Cheng Ying.
Seeing that she was crying so hard, Cheng Ying took out a handkerchief from her sleeve and handed it to her, then went to Xiangzhu Palace with A Wu.
Basins of blood were carried out from the hall, and bowls of medicine were brought in. After an anxious half hour, the loud cry of a baby was heard in the hall.
"Congratulations, Your Majesty, it's a little princess." The midwife had been driven out long ago, and it was A Wu who was holding the baby and washing it. She had recovered from the limp state of horror she had experienced when she saw Cheng Ying cut open the Majesty's belly, and she happily held the baby to show it to Concubine Song.
After seeing the baby, Concubine Song looked a little weak but very sober. She said to Ah Wu, "Go and see Xiao Ying off. Keep your mouth shut about the caesarean section and don't tell anyone, lest Xiao Ying cause any trouble."
A Wu handed the baby to the nanny, asked her to look after Concubine Song, and led Cheng Ying out of the palace.
She was a little excited, looking at him with clear eyes and said, "You are amazing, you saved the lives of the queen and the princess, just now the imperial physician said there was nothing he could do!"
After she brought Cheng Ying into Xiangzhu Palace, the nanny initially accused her of making trouble, but Cheng Ying woke the unconscious empress up with a needle. After waking up, Cheng Ying told the empress about the caesarean section. The empress agreed after hesitating for a moment, and drove away the midwife and other palace servants in the palace, leaving only the nanny and A Wu in the room to take care of her.
Perhaps because he had just experienced such a dangerous incident, Ah Wu talked much more than usual. He kept looking at Cheng Ying with bright eyes and kept praising her.
After this incident, she thought that she and Cheng Ying became closer. Concubine Song was a good master, and she remembered Cheng Ying's kindness, so she asked A Wu to send some food and daily necessities to Cheng Ying every now and then.
The matter of Xiangzhu Palace was eventually leaked out. There was no impenetrable wall in this palace. Cheng Ying was summoned again by Emperor Mingzong and was rewarded. The emperor even intended to transfer him out of the East Factory and serve in front of the emperor.
Jinzhong looked at Cheng Ying, who had grown taller, and felt that her behavior was more to his liking.
