In Qingzhou's Zhixun County, Yu Fuling hurried into the house carrying the medicinal herbs she had brought back.
The atmosphere in the yard was very tense. All the servants put down what they were doing and stayed in the yard. There were four or five big men tied up tightly in the yard, and a woman wearing a green jacket and with messy hair.
A few days ago, Zhao Yu sent a letter back saying that the remaining grain in the Danzhou grain store had been sold out, and asked Yu Jiao if she had any other arrangements.
The farm work in Xixun County was well taken care of by the workers in the village. The cabbage was growing well and was just about to bloom and produce seeds. Yu Jiao thought that she might as well have some free time, so considering that Yu Fuling had not seen Zhao Yu for many days, she decided to take her to Danzhou.
Firstly, I wanted to take a walk to relax and see if I could find other business opportunities. Secondly, I wanted to check the accounts of the Danzhou grain store.
Yu Jiao took Yu Fuling and a servant with her and went to Danzhou in a simple manner.
Because the disaster situation in Danzhou was much more serious than that in Qingzhou, there were still many refugees in the city, making it seem particularly desolate. Yu Jiao and her companions did not stay in Danzhou for long. After checking the accounts of the grain shop, they asked Zhao Yu to find the matchmaker to refund the rent, return the grain shop, and pack up their things and return to Xixun County.
As soon as they left Danzhou, their carriage was spotted by a group of refugees. At first, Yu Jiao thought that these refugees were just asking for food, so she gave them some small change.
However, they didn't expect that this group of refugees were actually vicious bandits. Not only did they rob Yu Jiao and her friends' carriage on the road, they also intended to commit murder.
The clerks who accompanied Manager Zhou to the Danzhou Grain Shop that day were all strong men. With these seven or eight clerks around, Yu Jiao was not panicked at first.
But that gang of thieves seemed to have seen blood on their hands, and they were extremely brutal when they attacked. Although Zhao Yu and his men were stronger, their fists and feet were no match for these murderous and robbing bandits.
After injuring several people, the bandits rushed straight towards Yu Jiao and grabbed her off the carriage. The leading bandit swung his machete and wanted to take Yu Jiao's life.
Later, a man in black suddenly appeared, killed the bandit leader with a palm strike, subdued the other bandits, and rescued Yu Jiao and her group.
The man in black said that he was following Gu Yun's orders and had been secretly protecting Yu Jiao.
Yu Jiao interrogated the remaining bandits and found out that they were pirates roaming around Danzhou and were bribed by a woman for five thousand taels of silver. The woman wanted them to take Yu Jiao's life.
Later, according to the clues given by the pirates, Gu Yun's men captured the woman who hired someone to kill Yu Jiao, and took her and the murderer back to Qingzhou.
Zhao Yu and several of his men were hacked by the bandits. Yu Jiao applied medicine and bandaged their wounds on the way, but Wu Dagui was seriously injured because he was protecting Yu Jiao. His wounds were deep and required stitches.
So when she returned to her house in Xixun County, Yu Jiao had no time to interrogate the captured bandits and the woman who wanted to harm her. She asked someone to boil some hot water, and asked Yu Fuling to go to the pharmacy in the city to get the necessary herbs. She also carefully disinfected the needles, surgical forceps and other instruments needed to suture Wu Dagui's wound.
There was not much catgut left in the medical box, barely enough to suture Wu Dagui's wound. After cutting the catgut, Yu Jiao washed her hands, wiped the sweat from her forehead with a handkerchief, and said to Yu Fuling, "Sister, please help me boil the instruments in boiling water, spray them with strong liquor, and put them away."
Yu Fuling poured Yu Jiao a cup of hot tea and said as she packed up the utensils, "You should take a rest first. Everyone in the yard is tied up. It's okay to interrogate them later."
