Chapter 77 Questioning

The women of Taiyan were deeply bound by the Three Bonds and Five Constant Virtues, and regarded chastity and reputation as more important than their own lives. This deep-rooted idea could not be liberated or overturned by just a few words from her.

Yu Jiao sat on a stool nearby and said, "Forget it. Since Miss Zhang doesn't want to, I won't examine the affected area. But Miss Zhang had better answer all my questions."

After hearing Yu Jiao's words, Zhang Xiu Yue felt that she had escaped a disaster. She stopped crying, covered her eyes with a handkerchief, and said "hmm" softly.

"What are the symptoms? When did it start?" Yu Jiao asked in a low voice.

The handkerchief Zhang Qiuyue was covering her eyes with trembled slightly. She closed her eyes shyly and clasped her hands together tightly. After a long while, she whispered, "It's been more than a month. I don't know why, but one day I suddenly... started to itch. It was unbearable."

Yu Jiao asked carefully, "Is it itchy inside or outside? Is there any smell? Have you ever scratched it? Is it red, yellow or blue?"

Zhang Xiu Yue answered Yu Jiao's questions one by one. Her little face, half hidden under the handkerchief, turned red. She bit her lower lip with her pearly teeth, and she wished she could faint from shame.

Yu Jiao did not embarrass her any further and asked Madam Zhang, "Have you ever asked anyone else to take a look at it and used medicine?"

Mrs. Zhang did not hide anything and said frankly, "We hired a female doctor before. She prescribed a prescription for Yue'er, but it had no effect."

"Didn't you apply medicine to the affected area?" Yu Jiao asked.

Mrs. Zhang shook her head. "Not really."

Yu Jiao stood up and said, "I can write the prescription now." She walked out with the medicine box on her back.

Madam Zhang hurriedly followed and asked Yu Jiao, "Miss Meng, can you cure my Yue'er's illness?"

Yu Jiao said slowly, "It should be curable."

Mrs. Zhang could only trust Yu Jiao's words for now, and she became more polite to her. She said, "If you want to prescribe a prescription, please think of a way to prevent the doctors in the pharmacy from finding out that the prescription you prescribe is for women's diseases. Otherwise, I'm afraid my daughter's reputation will be in jeopardy."

Yu Jiao thought about it and said, "That's easy. I'll write two prescriptions and put the herbs together. Then they won't be able to tell."

"That's great." Mrs. Zhang stood aside, waiting for Yu Jiao to prescribe a prescription, but she didn't expect her to carry the medicine box, open the door and walk outside.

Turning around, she saw Madam Zhang standing in the room, looking at her in confusion. Yu Jiao explained generously, "My handwriting is ugly, so I need my eldest brother who came with me to help write the prescription."

Mrs. Zhang felt that it was inappropriate to hear this. Her daughter's prescription must not be handled by a man other than her. She immediately said, "Miss Meng, I have a maid named Shi Mo at home. She knows a lot of words and can write a prescription. Why not let the maid write it for you?"

Yu Jiao didn't care. She went back to the house. Madam Zhang immediately called in the maid who could write outside. Yu Jiao then gave her two prescriptions, one for strengthening the yang and nourishing the kidneys, and the other for replenishing qi and blood. These two prescriptions contained all the medicinal materials needed to cure Zhang Xiuyue's vaginal disease, and they were in sufficient quantities.

Soon, the maid finished writing two prescriptions. Yu Jia read them and handed them to Madam Zhang, "You can have someone get the medicine."

Madam Zhang gave the prescription to the housekeeper beside her and asked her to go to the front yard to find a trustworthy servant to get the medicine.

Yu Jiao asked the maid to write two more prescriptions and gave them to Madam Zhang. "This prescription needs to be boiled into a decoction and used to wash the affected area. After washing for seven days, change to a hot bath. The other prescription is to be boiled and eaten. When the herbs are brought back, I will weigh and divide them. Don't mix them up."

Mrs. Zhang took note of it and was convinced when she saw that Yu Jiao acted so properly.
