Yu Jiao and Yu Zhixing held umbrellas and walked with difficulty on the mountain to look for Yaocao. After searching half of the mountainside, Yu Jiao found many other medicinal herbs, but still could not find any trace of Yaocao.
On the way, Yu Zhixing met a wild rabbit foraging for food, but he did not chase it because the mountain road was slippery. Besides, the wheat had been harvested and there was food at home. Although he hunted in the mountains all year round, Yu Zhixing still had principles. The rules passed down by the elders in the village stated that if the family had enough food and clothing, it was best not to kill wild animals in the mountains at will.
Yu Jiao wanted to go over the top of the mountain to take a look, but Yu Zhixing advised her to take a rest first. The two of them found a rock that could barely shelter them from the wind and rain, took out some cold and hard biscuits from their bags, and each ate some.
After resting for quarter of an hour, Yu Jiao and Yu Zhixing packed up their things, left the rock, and climbed over the mountain, leaning on tree branches.
The search lasted until the hour of You, but they still couldn't find the Yaocao. The two men didn't dare to stay on the mountain until dark, so they returned and went down the mountain.
When they returned home, their clothes were soaked, and their shoes and socks were covered in mud. Song had already boiled two large pots of hot water for them. Yu Jiao took a hot bath and heard from Yu Fuling that someone with carbuncle came to see a doctor today. Grandpa Yu tried to save him. The man was very generous and gave thirty taels of medical fee directly. After the cure, he would also reward him with a large sum of money.
After hearing this, Yu Jiao's mind was not on the medical fee. Instead, she felt a little worried. Not all carbuncles were of the heat-excessive yang type like the one in the second master of the Mu family. Yu Ruhai must have used her last prescription to treat the disease, but once the disease was applied, the slightest mistake would lead to irreparable consequences.
After wiping her hair with a cloth, Yu Jiao wanted to go to Yu Ruhai's room to ask about the pulse of his patient today, but she was stopped by Yu Zhou outside the east room. She looked up at Yu Jiao and said with a smile, "It's so late, your grandfather has already gone to bed, what do you want to see him about?"
Yu Jiao fiddled with her still wet hair and said, "I want to ask the old man about the condition of the patient who came to see him today."
Yu Zhou chuckled. Although her tone was gentle, it was full of sarcasm. "Your grandfather has already prescribed medicine and treated patients. What else is there to ask? You are young, but your grandfather has been treating patients for most of his life. How can it be your turn to ask questions?"
Yu Jiao thought about it and felt that what Yu Zhou said made sense. Although Yu Ruhai's medical skills were average, he was a doctor after all. He should be well aware that differences in symptoms and subtle differences in medication could lead to disastrous consequences. Since he prescribed the medicine, he should be confident about it.
"You're right. I'll go back to my room and rest." Yu Jiao turned and left.
Yu Zhou felt much more relieved. In the past, this little girl relied on her medical skills and was always very arrogant. Now the master can prescribe medicine to treat the diseases she treats. Now she dare not say anything!
Yu Zhou stared at Yu Jiao's back as she left, and an idea suddenly came to her mind. She had to find a way to get everything Meng Yujiao knew, so that the master wouldn't have to rely on her in the future, and naturally Meng Yujiao would have no room to speak in the family.
Yu Zhou had a good plan in mind, and Yu Ruhai had the same idea. He felt that after treating the masters of wealthy families, he was no longer the same as before, and was no longer the barefoot doctor he used to be.
For several days in a row, Yu Jiao was not allowed to pound rice or do any other work. She was only allowed to go to Yu Qizhe's room and read the medical books silently.
Yu Jiao knew what Yu Ruhai was thinking, but since God had arranged for her to come to Taiyan, she had to leave some traces and realize her self-worth while she was on earth. Yu Jiao treated it as practicing calligraphy and memorized some medical books that she had memorized.
Her handwriting has become more and more tangible, and just because she is copying Yu Qizhe's handwriting, I think her handwriting will be very similar to Yu Qizhe's in the future.
After many days of anxious waiting by the villagers, the rain finally stopped. The sky cleared and people's mood improved. Yu Jiao and Song gathered the clothes that had been saved at home over the past few days and went to the river at the entrance of the village to wash them in wooden basins.
Because of the rain, a lot of wheat in the fields was blown down. The families in the village who had not harvested the wheat went to the fields to work and dug small ditches to drain the water.
When Song and Yu Jiao were washing clothes by the river, they would occasionally see villagers passing by and saying hello. Many of them had never seen Yu Jiao, but as Yu Qizhe was well-known in the village, many people were curious about Yu Jiao and looked at her while talking to her.
Yu Jiao let them look at her, being very calm and composed. Occasionally, she would smile and look up to call the villagers who were talking to Song "Auntie".
Originally, everyone heard that the Yu family bought a little girl for Yu Qizhe to bring good luck, and they thought that the little girl would definitely not be presentable. But now, after seeing her, they all feel that the granddaughter-in-law bought by the Yu family is no worse than the one they married home. Not only is she pretty, but she also speaks softly and with a smile, and looks very clever.
Hearing people praising Yu Jiao, Song felt proud. Although she spoke only modestly, she was actually increasingly satisfied with Yu Jiao from the bottom of her heart.
After washing a large basket of clothes, it was almost dusk. After squatting by the river for a long time, Song's waist felt a little sore. She stood up, pounded her waist, and said with a smile, "It's time to go home and cook."
Yu Jiao took the wrung-out clothes and put them all into the basin. She held them in her arms and said to Song, "I'll cook today. You can go back to the house and rest after hanging the clothes."
Song was very comforted when she heard this and waved her hand, "I'm not tired."
The two of them went home chatting about family matters. Yu Mengshan was waiting at the door. When he saw them come back, he hurriedly took the wooden basin and asked them to both rest. He was now very accustomed to wearing prosthetic limbs and was a person who could not sit still. Although he could not do heavy work, he would rush to do any work within his ability.
Yu Mengshan was carrying a wooden basin and hanging clothes on a rope rack in the yard. Yu Jiao wanted to help, but Song pulled her back to the house and said, "Let your uncle dry the clothes. Let's take a break."
