Chapter 3 Worse than Beasts

"How... do you feel?" Xiang Wentian turned his head. Because of the angle, he could only see the side of Leng You's wrapped little head.

"Comfortable! You too?" Leng You said in a firm tone.

"Hmm!" Xiang Wentian's face was full of confusion.

“We have encountered a miracle!

This valley is said to have strange things in it, and indeed some people who came here died a few days after they returned, so no one dares to come here anymore."

Leng You couldn't give a more reasonable explanation. He stared at the cluster of flowers blooming on his wrist, with the scent of grapes lingering.

Even though her chest felt like it was about to explode, she still had a shred of rationality and knew that she should distance herself from it.

Xiang Wentian: “…”

This seems to be an answer that a child of this age could imagine, but how can we explain the facts?

Just as he was about to take a step, his not-so-small stomach growled. Even though he was facing only a little baby, Xiang Wentian still felt extremely embarrassed.

"You...Gurgle!" The most suitable way to relieve the embarrassment came uninvited, and a clearer cry came from Leng You's belly.

When the bone-gnawing pain subsided to the point where it no longer affected other senses, the extreme hunger began to roar wildly.

Xiang Wentian's voice and expression returned to normal and he walked forward.

"Brother, wait a minute, put me down!" Leng You stretched out his slender index finger and gently poked Xiang Wentian's shoulder.

"No! You are too badly injured, you can't move." Xiang Wentian's tone did not allow for argument.

"I'm fine now." Leng You emphasized the word "now". She would never deny Xiang Wentian's extraordinary sharpness and wisdom.

"Is it because...really?" Xiang Wentian turned his head suddenly.

Sure enough, Leng You could tell from the profile of his face that he was in deep shock.

After a long while, he bent down and carefully put Leng You down.

Before he could stand up, he saw Leng You falling straight to the side without even a sway. He was so scared that he hugged the person in his arms.

"You tied my legs with a scarf." Leng Youyang lay in Xiang Wentian's strong arms and blinked her big eyes like crystal grapes innocently.

“Gurgle…”

Then she closed her big eyes, so awkward.

But I was really hungry and almost died.

In the midst of longing, the cluster of flower marks on the side of my wrist suddenly felt hot, and a strange thought like a call suddenly rushed out in my mind.

He lowered his head and looked at his wrist again, his expression cold and unpredictable.

"Let's go!" Xiang Wentian curled the corners of his mouth slightly, readjusted the scarf on Leng You, and then held her hand.

"Brother, I may be able to find something to eat. Come with me!" Leng You grabbed Xiang Wentian's finger and walked north along the valley floor. At the same time, he covered his eyes with his eyelids to hide the doubts, surprise, anxiety and expectation in his eyes.

Xiang Wentian did not raise any objections, thinking that Leng You was more familiar with everything in this place.

"Sweet potato?" When Xiang Wentian followed Leng You and walked more than 500 meters to an area with sparse trees and dry land covered by protruding rocks, he saw the sweet potato vines that were almost withered and crawling all over the ground. He recognized this thing.

"It's actually true?" Leng You's heart almost jumped out of his chest, and he raised his wrist again and stared at it hard.

"I'll do the digging." Xiang Wentian's eager desire for food made him not notice Leng You's abnormality. He took out a dagger from his waist, squatted down and started digging.

The sandy soil did not require much effort, and Xiang Wentian easily pulled out a large bunch of purple-red flowers.

"It's so big!" Looking at the sweet potato that was as big as a child's pillow, Leng You went from being shocked to amazed.

Xiang Wentian picked one up and walked to the water. As soon as his fingertips touched the stream, he was stunned. It turned out to be hot spring water.

Without caring about anything else, he washed the dirt off the sweet potato, peeled off the skin with a dagger, cut off a piece and handed it to Leng You: "Eat it!"

"So sweet!" Leng You only now realized that raw sweet potatoes are a delicacy.

Just one sweet potato filled the stomachs of both of them. Although there was still a slight pain in the broken bone, Leng You felt that his whole body was filled with strength. Looking at Xiang Wentian, he seemed even more energetic. He couldn't help but gently rub the mark of the flower a few times.

Xiang Wentian put the remaining sweet potatoes he dug into his schoolbag and, under the guidance of Leng You, headed north to a part of the valley where the valley wall was relatively gentle.

I was in a hurry to save people, and the valley wall was extremely dangerous when I came down. I almost fell down several times. If I hadn't been agile and grabbed a tree on the valley wall in time, the consequences would have been disastrous.

Ignoring Leng You's refusal, Xiang Wentian tied the scarf tightly around his back and climbed up along the protruding rocks on the valley wall and using the trees on the wall.

The higher he climbed, the more frightened he became, and the excitement that followed. Although Leng You weighed less than 20 kilograms, this was an extremely energy-consuming sport like rock climbing.

He didn't feel tired at all, and his movements became even more agile and nimble, as if he had endless strength.

Thinking of the heat that rushed into his body, the strange purple mist, and Leng You's injuries that instantly healed...

Xiang Wentian tried hard to suppress the surging waves in his heart.

Finally standing on the valley, lying on Xiang Wentian's back, Leng You looked up at the gray and dark sky above the raging snow, then slowly turned his gaze to the village in front of the mountain, his eyes once again filled with bloodthirsty coldness.

She did not ask Xiang Wentian to put her down, and continued to let him carry her into the village.

The remote mountain villages in the late 1970s were far from the level of modern civilization. People lacked warm clothing, and no one understood or had the poetic spirit to go out and play in such bad weather. Instead, many families went out to clear snow inside and outside the yard for fear that their doors would be blocked by heavy snow.

So when Xiang Wentian, whose dress and temperament were completely different from those of the villagers, walked through the village at Leng You's instruction (in fact, he didn't have to take the village roads at all), everyone stopped the tools in their hands and looked at him as if they were admiring an alien object.

Naturally, quite a few people noticed Leng You, who was covered in blood and lying limply on Xiang Wentian's back.

"Hey! Who are you? What happened to the girl from the Leng family?" The curious person couldn't help but shout at Xiang Wentian at the top of his voice.

Leng You, who had his eyes closed, and Xiang Wentian, who had no expression on his face, could both tell that the question was mostly out of curiosity and not much concern.

"She rolled down the mountain and I saved her." Xiang Wentian's cold expression made the villagers hold back the hundred thousand questions that followed.

"It's right there." When they passed through the village and there were no more houses, Leng You raised his head and pointed at a house with a ground mark at the edge of the village.

In the snow and wind, two figures were shoveling snow.

"Huh...Xiaotian?" Bai Changpu was stunned when he saw the person standing in front of him.

"Wen--Tian?" The shovel in the hand of Xiang Huaixin behind him fell directly to the ground.

"Uncle Bai...Dad!" Xiang Wentian had previously learned from Leng You that the so-called Grandpa Bai was Bai Changpu, and he was also sure that the Grandpa Xiang mentioned by Leng You was his father.

"Xiaotian, why are you here? Oh...what happened to Xiaoyouyou?" Seeing Lengyou covered in blood, Bai Changpu was so startled that he dropped the shovel in his hand.

"What's going on?" Xiang Huaixin also woke up from his shock and immediately ran forward.

"Grandpa Xiang, Grandpa Bai, I'm fine." Leng You waved his little hands.

"This..." Xiang Huaixin looked at the two children in surprise.

"Let's go in and talk!" Xiang Wentian carried Leng You on his back and walked into the dim hut first.

"Even a tiger does not eat its own cubs. It is worse than an animal!" After listening to Xiang Wentian's simple narration, Xiang Huaixin clenched his fists so hard that they made a crackling sound.

"It's a good thing that Xiao Youyou is lucky. If it were someone else, he would have rolled into such a deep valley and would have been dead." Bai Changpu looked at Leng You with eyes full of heartache.

Xiang Wentian and Leng You had agreed to conceal the part about the purple mist, so in the eyes of Xiang Huaixin and Bai Changpu, Leng You was able to survive because of luck.

"You damn girl...you damn girl...come out!" A sharp shout interrupted the conversation of the people in the room.
