Chapter 96 You're Very Good

Chapter 96 You're Very Good

Without saying a word, Qi Chenyan simply pushed the bowl forward.

Seeing that Qi Chenyan was so decisive, Yu Li realized he must be a master at eating spicy food, so she added two spoonfuls of chili to his bowl as well.

Qi Chenyan thought the chili peppers smelled very fragrant and looked like the dry, fragrant type.

Then he took a big bite of noodles, and the fiery sensation made him choke.

Director Qi, who is usually very elegant in his dining etiquette, was now in a flustered state, quickly grabbing a tissue, covering his mouth and coughing, his eyes even turning red from holding it in.

This clearly demonstrates just how potent this chili pepper is.

Yu Li quickly poured a glass of cold water, added ice cubes, and swiftly brought it to Qi Chenyan's lips.

"Quickly drink some ice water to wash away the spiciness, and it won't be so spicy anymore."

Yu Li could tell at a glance that Qi Chenyan couldn't eat spicy food at all, and probably hadn't eaten it much in his daily life.

So, someone who doesn't know how to eat spicy food should take a break before eating it. They shouldn't take a big bite and should first check how much spiciness they can tolerate.

Clearly, Qi Chenyan overestimated himself, and ended up being thoroughly irritated by the spiciness.

But Yu Li didn't laugh, nor did she ask Qi Chenyan why he couldn't eat spicy food and was forcing himself to do so.

She immediately used ice water to soothe Qi Chenyan, and once he had calmed down a bit, she smiled and said, "Actually, you're already very good."

"Grandma's chili sauce is supposed to be spicier than regular chili sauce because people in our town can handle spicy food, so Grandma makes it extra spicy."

"When I was little, I didn't know that I could eat spicy food as soon as I could walk. I was so proud of myself that I would add a spoonful of chili to my milk powder to taste whether it was salty or not."

"Then I thought I was invincible when it came to eating spicy food, and in my youthful arrogance, I added five big spoonfuls. The rice noodles were filled with chili peppers. Before I even ate the noodles, I took a sip of the soup."

As she spoke, Yu Li vividly and realistically recreated the scene for Qi Chenyan.

"After that one bite, I felt like I instantly turned into a fire-breathing dragon. I kept yelling that it was so spicy and running and jumping around the store. My grandma chased after me and poured two big glasses of ice water down my throat before I could catch my breath."

"So you're already great. Eat a couple more times, and you'll be one of the town's spicy food champions."

Qi Chenyan knew, of course, that his little wife was afraid that he would force himself and end up in a mess, and that he would feel embarrassed, so she told him about her embarrassing childhood stories to ease the awkward atmosphere.

She always manages to quickly relieve discomfort in a kind and understanding way that avoids embarrassment.

Qi Chenyan wiped his lips and said, "Then it seems I still need to continue training and try to integrate with the town's residents."

"No need, no need, just be yourself. You're already doing great."

Qi Chenyan smiled: "You are better."

Grandma Zhou sat at another table, busy with her work, but her gaze remained fixed on Yu Li and Qi Chenyan.

When they compliment each other, their eyes can spark a deep connection.

As someone who has been through it all, Grandma Zhou is certain that her granddaughter has found true happiness.

Although the marriage came as a surprise, it's possible that the two fell in love at first sight and quickly sparked a romance.

I've heard that it's common for young people to get married quickly these days, so this is normal. As an older woman, she should understand, be tolerant, and supportive.

Just as the atmosphere was getting right, the automatic door announced, "Welcome!"

A customer arrived, and it was a regular.

Grandma Zhou has a very good memory at her age. She can cook rice noodles according to the taste of regular customers without them having to tell her.

"Sour soup rice noodles, with an extra bowl of beef, right? It'll be ready in two minutes."

Grandma Zhou put down what she was doing and went to the kitchen to cook.

An elderly couple came. They always ate late, usually after finishing their farm work in the fields, and then they would come over for a couple of bowls of noodles.

However, they didn't go to work in the fields because they were short of money; it's more likely that farming is a genetic trait among Chinese people.

The elderly often have nothing to do at home, so they like to work in the fields. It's a good way to pass the time and keep their bodies healthy.

The old lady was the first to see Yu Li and was overjoyed: "Oh, Little Li is back? No wonder I thought I heard someone say you were back on the way here."

The old man, however, had sharper eyes. "Little Pear, who is this handsome young man? He looks kind of familiar."

Generally speaking, men tend to prefer watching the news, so it's not surprising that the old man found Qi Chenyan's face familiar.

"I'm back this time on my wedding leave, bringing my grandson-in-law to meet his grandmother."

Upon hearing this, the old lady and the old man exclaimed "Oh dear!" and sat down next to Yu Li.

He looked Qi Chenyan up and down, as if he were examining some rare and precious item.

"Not bad, not bad. This young man has a really high nose bridge and deep-set eyes. At first glance, I thought he was a celebrity who came to our town to film a movie."

Yu Li joked, "Grandma He, you even know about celebrities making movies?"

"It's all because I have a granddaughter who's a huge fan of celebrities. The walls of her room are covered with pictures of that guy named Xiaoyun."

"Why call me 'husband'? Oh my, even I blushed when I heard that. She said that's what all the fans call their idols these days. Little Pear, it's a shame your husband isn't a star."

Believe it or not, the elderly these days are quite trendy; they even know the term "idol fan."

"You mean Qi Xiaoyun?"

The old lady nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, that's the name. Little Pear, you're a fan of celebrities too?"

Yu Li gave Qi Chenyan an amused wink.

I never expected that going home for my honeymoon would lead to meeting fans of Qi Chenyan's family.

"Young people all know this big star."

Yu Li leaned closer and deliberately said, "Actually, my husband's eyebrows and eyes look a bit like that big star. If he debuted, that big star wouldn't stand a chance."

The old lady looked at Qi Chenyan again and again, with the same gaze she would give her grandson-in-law.

“It really does look like him. I always said your grandma is so lucky to have such a beautiful and capable granddaughter like you, and even her grandson-in-law is so handsome. In our town, I doubt you can find anyone more handsome than this young man.”

Yu Li nodded in complete agreement, "You're right, after all, he's my husband, of course he's the most handsome man in the universe."

While Yu Li and the old lady were chatting happily, the old man moved closer to Qi Chenyan.

"Young man, the more I look at you, the more familiar you seem. What's your name, and what do you do for a living?"

The old lady chimed in, "Your granddaughter is always hanging on the wall, and the young man's features look a bit like that big star, of course you think he looks familiar."

"Go away, old woman, don't interrupt if you don't understand."

Before Qi Chenyan could speak, Grandma Zhou had already brought out two bowls of rice noodles.

“My granddaughter’s husband works in journalism, and he’s in the same profession as Lili.”
