Chapter 49 A Qualified Husband
She was prepared to be criticized, after all, she had indeed been too willful this time.
Knowing she was pregnant and not yet three months along, a dangerous time, she still worked overtime for two consecutive days and deliberately kept it from Qi Chenyan so as not to worry him.
No matter how you look at it, Qi Chenyan had every reason to be angry. She was even prepared to be properly criticized and lectured by him.
But after she woke up, Qi Chenyan didn't mention that she had lied to him. Instead, he busied himself with taking care of her, feeding her water and raising the head of the bed so that she could sit up comfortably against the pillows.
Only after he finished doing all that did Qi Chenyan sit down on the chair by the bed.
"If anyone should apologize, it's me. I'm sorry that you were busy with work and pregnant, and I, as your husband, wasn't there for you when you needed me most."
"I am neither a good husband nor a good father."
Yu Li was surprised that Qi Chenyan would take all the blame upon himself, and waved her hands repeatedly.
"How can I blame you? You've done so well. It was my fault for keeping it from you because of work. I failed in my responsibility as a mother..."
Before she could finish speaking, the man's warm, large hand stroked her dark hair.
His movements were so gentle, just like the way he looked at her now. His deep black eyes, like a universe that encompasses everything, embraced all her faults.
"Yu Li, you are a good mother and an excellent journalist. We are both first-time parents and a young newlywed couple."
"In many ways, we still need to work things out, both for the sake of our marriage and for the sake of our children."
"What's done is done. There's no point in arguing about who's right or wrong now. As long as you and your child are safe and sound, that's all that matters. Don't overthink it, okay?"
The man's gentleness, fearing she might overthink, reassured her in a tone that implied neither of them was right or wrong, making Yu Li feel a tingling sensation in her heart and her eyes sting a little.
"Qi Chenyan, although I don't know if you are a qualified father, after all, this standard has to wait until the baby is born to be judged by the baby."
"But as a husband, you've been so good, thank you."
A smile appeared on Qi Chenyan's handsome face. "Since you've already declared me a qualified husband, why are you still being so polite to your husband?"
The word "husband" made Yu Li blush.
"Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
Yu Li wanted to be reserved and say that she wasn't very hungry, but before she could even say it, her stomach started growling.
She clutched her stomach and honestly replied, "I want to eat Eight Treasure Duck, I really want to eat it, can I eat it?"
Qi Chenyan chuckled lightly, "As long as it's not cold in nature or something that pregnant women are prohibited from taking, you can eat it. But Eight Treasure Duck is quite oily, are you sure you want to eat it?"
Yu Li nodded vigorously, "I'm so hungry I could eat a cow!"
"Wait for me a moment."
After Qi Chenyan left, Yu Li took out her phone and found several missed calls and numerous messages.
My best friend made all the phone calls, and she kept tagging me in her messages.
After all, Yu Li disappeared for one night last night and didn't gossip with Qi Xi as usual.
As her best friend of over twenty years, Yu Li knew exactly what she was going to say just by sticking her butt out, and immediately sensed that something was probably wrong.
Just as Yu Li opened the message, before she had even finished reading it, Qi Xi called again.
"My God, Yu Xiaoli, you finally answered the phone! You know I was almost downstairs at the TV station. If I hadn't confirmed you weren't at work, I would have gone straight to the police station to report you!"
Yu Li quickly comforted her: "Darling, I'm sorry, it's all my fault. Last night when I got off work, I suddenly had low blood sugar and just woke up. I'm still in the hospital now."
Upon hearing that Yu Li was in the hospital, Qi Xi immediately became anxious.
"What? You passed out and were taken to the hospital? Which hospital? I'm coming right now!"
Even though it was over the phone, Yu Li could already hear the frantic commotion coming from the other end.
"It's okay, it's okay, I'm fine now, I'm lively and energetic, you don't need to come over, I have someone with me."
There was a two-second silence on the other end. "Your cheap husband?"
"Didn't you say he went on a business trip out of town and hasn't been home for the past two days? How did he know you were hospitalized and was taking care of you there?"
Yu Li coughed twice: "Before I fainted last night, I was going to call you, but somehow I accidentally dialed him instead."
"He said he was terrified and rushed back from the next city overnight to stay with me all night. Now he's going to buy me eight-treasure duck."
Qi Xi clicked her tongue: "Even over the phone, I can smell the sour stench of love. Fine, fine, anyway, I'm practically dispensable to you now."
"Who told me to have a best friend who forgets her friends for the sake of a pretty boy? I was here living in fear all night, while she was over there all lovey-dovey with her husband."
"That's enough, I'm still an outsider after all. I can't stay in this family anymore."
Seeing her best friend start acting out her role again, Yu Li couldn't help but laugh. "I'm just afraid that if you really see my cheap husband, you'll run away faster than a rabbit."
Qi Xi was very principled: "Nonsense, even if he is a demon or monster, I am not afraid. I must keep a close eye on my Lili."
"But after what happened last night, this man is quite responsible and reliable. He knew you were in trouble and rushed back from afar."
"Even if I'm not by your side in the future, I can rest assured with him by my side."
Yu Li spat twice: "What unlucky things are you saying? No matter how important your husband is, can he be more important than my best friend? Xi Xi will always be number one in my eyes, and everyone else has to take a backseat."
Qi Xi was satisfied, but still a little worried: "Are you really okay? You really don't need me to stay with you anymore? Whenever you're not feeling well, I'm always there for you. I'm still a little worried."

Fearing that Yu Li was too hungry, Qi Chenyan searched for nearby shops selling Eight Treasure Duck.
I chose the one with the highest positive reviews and drove there myself.
It wasn't lunchtime yet, and there weren't many people in the restaurant.
Qi Chenyan first looked at the finished Eight Treasure Duck, but couldn't help but frown.
The broth was so thick that Yu Li felt nauseous and vomited that morning because of the beef patties, let alone the eight-treasure duck that looked so greasy.
"Can this Eight Treasure Duck be customized according to your taste?"
The shop assistant, who had never heard such a request before, replied impatiently, "All our Eight Treasure Ducks taste the same; they're on the food charts. If you don't like the flavor, you can go somewhere else..."
She looked up and saw Qi Chenyan's face halfway through her sentence.
First, she was stunned, then incredulous, and then she covered her mouth.
"Boss! Boss!"
