Chapter 1190 Extra: The Little Buns' Problems
Three-year-old Baozi is at an age where he is curious about new things. Beibei and Baozi stopped playing and waited for Lin Yuesha to answer their questions.
"Well..."
It's not hard to explain the feathers, but how would she explain the transparent bellyband? Her sons would definitely dig deep and ask about its purpose.
The questions were getting harder and harder to answer, so Lin Yuesha simply passed the buck to Qi Heng and said to the two little buns, "You should ask your father about this."
"Mother, don't you know?"
Beibei was surprised that there were questions her mother couldn't answer.
"Mother doesn't know."
Lin Yuesha gritted her teeth and lied. She rarely got stumped by the little bun's questions; this was the first time.
To make it easier to pass the buck to Qi Heng later, Lin Yuesha made excuses for herself, saying that she was a woman with little education and limited knowledge.
"Mother, since you don't understand, why don't you ask Father?"
The child reached out and waved the gauze dress in her hand, saying, "You taught me to listen more, observe more, and ask more questions, but you yourself haven't done it."
Lin Yuesha twitched her lips, speechless, realizing she had dragged herself into a trap.
The problem is that she can't change her tune yet; she has taught her sons to be honest.
"It was Mother's oversight. Mother will definitely learn more from your father in the future."
Lin Yuesha took the initiative to reflect on herself and deeply felt the difficulty of raising a child. She had the urge to run away and leave the mess to Qi Heng to deal with.
A moment later, Qi Heng entered the cabin and saw the carefully prepared little items in his sons' hands, and immediately understood.
Before boarding the ship, there were only the couple on the second floor. To make it easier to access their belongings, Qi Heng did not hide them, which was his oversight.
"Father, Mother asked us to ask you what all these are."
Beibei stepped forward first. He was somewhat afraid of his father, who usually had a stern face and rarely smiled at them.
However, he and his eldest and third brothers often saw that their father had a big smile on his face when facing their mother.
Lin Yuesha was both amused and exasperated; without realizing it, she had been tricked again.
Fortunately, Qi Heng was a sensible man and immediately guessed what Lin Yuesha and the two boys were thinking.
"This is an object that brings pleasure to men and women."
Qi Heng did not evade the question and explained seriously, "The feathers that Beibei is holding come from an animal called a peacock, and this gauze dress is made from silk spun by silkworms."
"Third brother, are you happy?"
Beibei waved her feathers and asked Baby.
"Well enough."
The baby looked down, pondered carefully for a while, and finally draped the transparent bib over his back to feel it carefully, but there was no obvious change in his heart.
"Me too."
Beibei frowned, suspecting that her father was lying to the two of them.
Lin Yuesha glared at Qi Heng and sat down to watch the show.
"Father said these are things that husband and wife use together."
Qi Heng explained it clearly: the two little buns will only be able to experience the wonders after they grow up, get married, and have children.
The two little buns seemed to understand but didn't ask any further questions, and Lin Yuesha breathed a sigh of relief.
She thought the matter was over, but the next day, Beibei and Baobei went down to the first floor and saw the ship's cook and her husband. She then asked a serious question.
"My dad says that peacock feathers and the transparent fabric made by silkworms can bring happiness to couples. Is that true?"
Beibei and Baobei were eager to learn. Their parents had told them not to listen to only one side of the story or believe only one person's opinion. So, they decided to ask others for advice as well.
The cook and his wife looked at each other, then quickly knelt down. How were they supposed to answer this question?
"This servant does not know."
They couldn't afford to corrupt the young prince, as that would be a capital offense. After discussing it, the couple decided to pretend they didn't know and simply couldn't answer.
Moreover, the two seem to have grasped a tremendous secret.
As dinner time approached, Lin Yuesha brought a bowl of green vegetables to the deck and scooped water from the river to wash them. Beibei and Baobei sat beside her and helped her pick the vegetables.
These were tasks that the two brothers were used to doing.
"Mother, is what Father says always right?"
Beibei suddenly asked a question, still pondering and struggling with the issue from last night.
The official ship was cleared out, leaving only the cook and the sailors. Beibei couldn't find anyone to ask questions, since it was a matter between husband and wife, and the sailors who hadn't yet married certainly wouldn't understand.
"Not necessarily."
Lin Yuesha patiently taught the child, "Some of these are his subjective opinions and his thoughts, so they may not be correct. Everyone's thoughts are different."
Could a three-year-old understand that? Lin Yuesha thought she had spoken in a rather profound way.
"Yes, you taught your son not to listen to only one side of the story, so I asked the cook and his wife..."
Beibei was very disappointed that the couple didn't know.
Lin Yuesha's hand froze, as if it were rusty; she regretted letting Qi Heng answer.
This incident left a lingering resentment in Lin Yuesha's heart, and after her sons had gone to bed that night, she confronted Qi Heng to settle the score.
"What did I say wrong? Aren't you happy?"
Even though your son is young, you can't fool him, otherwise it will be hard to regain the lost trust.
"But you can't be so direct and say everything!"
Fortunately, the cook and his wife were family. What if they gossiped about it? Some things are better left unsaid.
"If my wife is worried about the news getting out, she can just kill him to silence him."
Qi Heng smiled faintly; he wanted to have a deeper conversation with his wife.
"You're never serious!"
Lin Yuesha sat up, put on her clothes, and walked onto the deck.
A cool night breeze rippled across the river, while the distance was shrouded in darkness.
I didn't know before that raising children was so difficult; it's not that it's easy for poor families to raise children.
In the past, in Chenjia Village, the children would run around and dive into the river all the time, and their parents would have to search for them while doing farm work.
Regardless of poverty or wealth, the feelings of parents are the same: their love for their children is profound.
In the past, Lin Yuesha could understand Lin Shusheng, after all, Lin Shusheng was an extremely selfish person who only cared about fame and fortune.
"My husband, do you know that ever since I became a mother, I don't understand anything anymore?"
Lin Shusheng was the original owner's biological father, who abandoned his daughter in Chenjia Village for over a decade without ever inquiring about her. After passing the imperial examination, Lin Shusheng lived a comfortable life in the capital, but never thought of his daughter who was suffering in the village.
If they had any conscience, they would at least have someone send some money over there!
"Some things only look like humans, but in reality they are still beasts."
Qi Heng poured tea for Lin Yuesha and sighed.
After Lin Shusheng was executed, Lin Yue'e finally gave in to Old Madam Lin's insistence and bought a decent coffin for his burial.
Perhaps due to a leak, Lin Shusheng's grave was dug up, the coffin inside was gone, and Lin Shusheng's body was left exposed in the wilderness. His body was then gnawed by wild dogs, and soon only a skeleton remained.
Qi Heng guessed that the person who did this was probably a tomb robber who thought that Lin Shusheng would be buried with rich funerary objects, but was greatly disappointed after digging up the tomb. In order not to leave empty-handed, he stole the coffin.
