Chapter 474 The Corpse Came Back to Life
Prince Luo, Xiao Chengyu, arrived at the back garden with his servants. Only the Qiuyue Troupe members were present; Madam Yu had not yet arrived.
He stood beside the table, looking down thoughtfully at the exposed half of his shoe. Qingxing felt embarrassed; caught red-handed by Prince Luo while stealing food, Miss was truly unlucky.
"Whose shoe fell off? It just happened to fall under the table."
Xiao Chengyu gently kicked it with his toe, looking completely understanding.
Lin Yuesha was hiding under the table eating snacks. If she had known that the Yu family was so snobbish and stingy that they wouldn't even provide her with a decent meal, she would definitely have brought some food with her. But because she was dressed in men's clothing, Lin Yuesha had overlooked this matter.
She hadn't had a drop of water all day, and she felt dizzy and lightheaded. Feeling sluggish and her mind was blank. She had instinctively hidden away just now.
"Cough cough!"
Luo Wang did it on purpose. Lin Yuesha almost choked. She chewed slowly and finished the last bite of her dessert before slowly emerging from under the table.
"Why is someone under the table?"
Xiao Chengyu asked the question knowing the answer already.
"Oh, something fell. I'll go pick it up under the table."
Lin Yuesha casually took out a handkerchief, waved it at Luo Wang, and lied with a straight face.
"There's no wind right now, how did the handkerchief fall under the table?"
The little girl still wanted to lie to him. She was just stealing food; it wasn't anything fancy. Why did she have to come up with such a lame excuse?
"Then I don't know, perhaps the handkerchief has grown legs?"
Lin Yuesha is like a dead pig that doesn't fear boiling water. Since it's already been discovered, there's no point in saying anything more. We can't exactly send her to jail just for stealing snacks.
"How dare you! You actually tried to deceive the Prince! Do you think the Prince is a fool?"
Beside Prince Luo was Xu Da, the deputy commander of the Five Cities Garrison whom he had met yesterday. Seeing Lin Yuesha spouting nonsense, he angrily said, "Your Highness, this brat is talking nonsense. You must teach him a lesson!"
Lin Yuesha pursed her lips and gave Xu Da a disdainful look. She couldn't even tell the difference between a man and a woman. Who was the big fool?
"This young master's role is very important. It's not too late to punish him after the performance."
The Prince of Luo waved his hand and found a seat.
Seeing this, Xu Da earnestly advised, "Your Highness, you are just too kind and benevolent. Look at the kind of people who have climbed up to you."
A commoner dared to defy a prince; he must be tired of living.
Lin Yuesha glared at Xu Da. "I'm not afraid of bad things happening, I'm afraid of bad people," she said, describing Xu Da as someone who meddles in other people's business.
"The most famous member of Qiuyue Class is Xiao Qiuyue, but what does this little radish head sing?"
Xu Da was very interested and asked Lin Yuesha.
Lin Yuesha didn't want to talk to him, but she didn't want to offend him, so she said cryptically, "You'll find out soon enough."
Before long, Madam Yu, supported by Lord Yu, arrived at the back garden, followed by a group of guests. Everyone was very surprised to see Prince Luo and Deputy Commander Xu there, and they quickly came up to greet them.
Lin Yuesha waited on one side of the platform to go on stage and saw clearly that Madam Yu was around fifty years old with silver hair at her temples. Even on her birthday, Madam Yu still pursed her lips and had deep nasolabial folds, looking quite serious.
Lord Yu next to him was alright, tall and thin, but Lord Yu's only son, Young Master Yu, was really ugly, even less pleasing to the eye than someone with a pockmarked face.
Young Master Yu looked gloomy, as if he hadn't been in the sun for years. His face was pale, and the afterglow of the setting sun on him brought no warmth, making him an unpleasant sight.
This family of three generations looks very strange and difficult to deal with.
After everyone was seated, the show began with gongs and drums, and Xiao Qiuyue took the stage first.
Yue Niang was a pitiful woman, kind-hearted but with a tragic fate. When her only sister learned that Yue Niang had become a concubine, she coughed up blood and hanged herself. Yue Niang then returned home for the funeral.
Lin Yuesha appeared, lying under a white cloth with her eyes closed, making her breathing shallow.
She was nervous because of the crowd, and her ability to fall asleep hadn't been fully developed. Lin Yuesha felt Xiao Qiuyue lift the white cloth, and a bright light flashed before her eyes.
Lanterns hung on all four sides of the high platform, illuminating it as if it were daytime. Lin Yuesha's face was painted an iron-blue color, and there were bluish-purple marks on her neck.
Xu Da looked closely and exclaimed in surprise, "Your Highness, didn't you say this kid had an important role? How come he's suddenly dressed as a woman, and a dead man at that?"
"That's interesting."
Luo Wang realized he had been fooled; she was indeed an important character, and without this little girl, the play wouldn't be perfect.
However, after learning some secrets, he felt that the play had some hidden meaning.
Xiao Chengyu turned his head and noticed that Old Madam Yu's hand was trembling as she gripped the teacup tightly. Her face was turning blue from holding back her anger. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, she threw the teacup onto the stage and shouted, "What kind of utter nonsense is this? It's vulgar and disgusting!"
Feeling something brush past her ear, Xiao Qiuyue stopped. Seeing this, Lin Yuesha threw down the white curtain and sat up to avoid it.
"Oh no! It's come back to life!"
Xu Da shouted, but the others ignored his witty remark, and the scene became awkwardly silent.
"Your Highness, I'm sorry, my lady is suddenly feeling unwell and will be going to rest now."
After the head maid finished speaking, she didn't even give the Prince of Luo any face, and helped the old lady of the Yu family turn around and leave, leaving the remaining guests standing there.
An unexpected event occurred midway through, and naturally, the meeting ended unhappily.
"Send Qiuyue back home, and never let her come to the Yu family again, or we will notify the Jingzhao Yin's office to arrest her!"
After the servants of the Yu family finished speaking, their expressions remained rather unpleasant until they left the back garden.
Lin Yuesha could see clearly that Old Madam Yu had just been enraged and embarrassed. This performance had touched a nerve with her.
Qiuyue's group was packing up their things, about to be kicked out of the house. At this moment, everyone was extremely aggrieved and had no idea what was wrong with Old Madam Yu.
"You little brat, dressing up as a boy like that, what exactly is your purpose?"
Seeing the mocking look in Luo Wang's eyes, Xu Da belatedly realized what was going on and stepped forward to question him, "You said you had an important role, but you didn't have a single line. You're so young and you're already bragging about things like the sky. Aren't you ashamed?"
"Lord Xu, as you can see, this wonderful show was stopped right before it even began, and my important part hasn't even started yet."
Lin Yuesha immediately retorted, saying that it was Xu Da who said she had come back to life, treating such a serious matter as a joke, showing no sense of humor whatsoever.
"If you put it that way, then it's my fault."
Xu Da was furious. He had never seen such a cunning and eloquent young girl, and she wasn't afraid of him at all.
"I didn't say that, so don't make unfounded accusations."
Lin Yuesha was furious at the moment, suffering for nothing, and hadn't even exchanged a single word with Old Madam Yu. Moreover, given the Yu family's temperament, her strategy of starting with Old Madam Yu was destined to fail.
Lin Yuesha had been full of hope all this time, but things didn't turn out the way she expected.
