Chapter 528 Embarrassing
The hour of Chenshi (7-9 AM) had passed, and the invited ladies and young women arrived one after another at the Prince's villa, where they were seated in the garden.
The maids of the Prince's mansion carried tea and fruit from the kitchen, going in and out of the main kitchen repeatedly.
"Why are you back again?"
Lin Yuesha wanted to go out for some fresh air and almost bumped into the big-eyed maid. She clearly remembered that the big-eyed maid hadn't been gone for long.
"Miss Lin, it's really..."
The big-eyed maid was helpless. She didn't want to run back and forth between the two places. Who knew what had gotten into those ladies from high-class families? They were all like hungry wolves, not caring about their image at all. There were even two young ladies who were at odds and started a fight over a donut.
Tsk tsk, the young masters have already revealed their true colors before they even arrived.
"I see. Then you can get back to your work."
Lin Yuesha felt deep sympathy for the ladies and young women. In order to attend the flower viewing banquet at the Prince's Mansion, they had to get up before dawn to wash and dress up. They probably wouldn't have time for breakfast, so they would eat something quickly and then get on the carriage. It would take an hour and a half to travel from the inner city to the Prince's Mansion villa if they went fast.
"Miss, none of those ladies and young women have ever seen any of the desserts you make. They've been asking this old servant for their names."
Granny Fang took a walk in the back garden and returned covered in sweat and parched. She had been sent by her young mistress; in her mistress's words, it was called "advertising," which meant promotion.
"When this old servant saw Madam Xu, she specifically mentioned that you live next door to her."
Granny Fang wiped her sweat with a handkerchief and drank a large bowl of chilled plum juice to quench her thirst. Thanks to Madam Xu's help, she was successfully rescued. Those people then pestered Madam Xu, asking where her shop was located.
"Miss, your servant has arrived!"
Bai Cha ran to the main kitchen and saw Lin Yuesha with a smile on her face.
"White Tea, what brings you here?"
Lin Yuesha was surprised to see Bai Cha. After all, Bai Cha was a maid she had bought and she knew her background. Lin Yuesha was closest to Bai Cha, but she did not take Bai Cha with her this time.
"It was Madam Xu who brought this servant."
When Madam Xu came to the banquet, she was worried that Lin Yuesha's side would not have enough staff and that the people from the Prince's Mansion would not be suitable, so she replaced her maid with Bai Cha and brought Bai Cha with her.
A small detail once again moved Lin Yuesha to tears.
Actually, it didn't really matter whether Bai Cha came or not, but Madam Xu always put herself in her shoes and truly loved her like a niece.
"Let me tell you some gossip. Lord Xu is surrounded by Miss Qin and several other young ladies, and he can't get away."
Even Bai Cha was laughing at Xu Da. When Bai Cha passed by, Xu Da's temple veins were bulging, and he was on the verge of collapse.
"Qin Nanyan?"
Lin Yuesha confessed that it was all her fault. She shouldn't have given Qin Nanyan such a bad idea, such as the indirect strategy of trying to attract the Prince of Luo's attention by starting with Xu Da. If the Prince of Luo found out that she was the one who did the dirty work, their friendship would be over in an instant.
By the time of 9 AM, most of the invited ladies, young ladies, and young gentlemen had arrived. No one dared to be late for the flower-viewing banquet at the Prince's mansion.
Inside the garden, the old princess sat in the main seat, while Zhuang, Xu, Qin, and other ladies of high rank sat beside her, chatting animatedly. Qin Nanyan's mother, Zhou, was also present.
"I heard that the Prince's Palace changed its chef for the flower viewing banquet this year. She certainly has a clever idea. You can't keep it a secret, let us see her!"
Zhou was Qin's brother and sister-in-law, and the two had always been close. Qin also readily agreed with them.
"What cook? She's a young lady, although the little girl hasn't come of age yet."
Madam Xu glanced at Madam Zhou and Madam Qin, unable to bear their hypocritical and pretentious behavior. She immediately retorted, standing up for Lin Yuesha.
"So, you've seen it before?"
Zhou was embarrassed and had no way to deal with the savage Madam Xu. Last time the two quarreled, Madam Xu couldn't win the argument, so she grabbed Zhou by the hair and threw her into a tree branch. This incident made her a laughing stock in the capital for a long time.
Hmph, resorting to violence when she can't win an argument, that shrew's only skill is this!
"Of course I've seen it. If you haven't, it's because you're not worldly."
Madam Xu's words offended not only one or two ladies, but also very few of them, since they had only met Lin Yuesha in person.
Madam Xu didn't care that she had stirred up hatred; these people were all competitive anyway. After the banquet, she would pretend to invite Lin Yuesha to her residence for a feast, believing that it was all just to make trouble for her. These hypocritical people would spend a lot of money to hire someone just to outdo her.
Madam Xu is not stupid; on the contrary, she sees things clearly. She just doesn't like to play mind games.
"Yes, he's a good kid."
Zhuang added, her words full of praise for Lin Yuesha, "That girl has a knack for making pickled vegetables. When we left the capital a while ago, my daughter-in-law took care of everything at home. Now, she's exhausted and can't eat, always gagging. It's all thanks to that girl's pickled vegetables that she can whet her appetite."
After Lady Zhuang finished praising him, the old princess also offered her praise, which aroused everyone's curiosity even more.
"In that case, why don't we invite them up?"
Zhou, Qin Nanyan's mother, laughed and said, "Let us meet her too. I've spoiled Nanyan too much. She's not good at cooking at all. If this young lady is interested, she can come and teach Nanyan."
Zhou's words sounded polite, but in reality, they were belittling Lin Yuesha's status.
“Oh, sister-in-law, ladies from respectable families are all pampered and precious. They would never dare to touch the water and rough their hands.”
Upon seeing this, Madam Qin immediately stepped forward, and the two women exchanged a smile.
"Go and invite Lin girl up here."
Since everyone wanted to see Lin Yuesha, and the Prince of Luo had brought it up again, the old princess took the opportunity to have her maid invite her. A moment later, Lin Yuesha followed the maid to the garden.
"Greetings to the former Princess and all the ladies."
Lin Yuesha was meticulous about her manners. She always kept Fang Mama's words in mind and never allowed anyone to find fault with her in public.
"These are all ideas you came up with?"
The old princess was very kind to Lin Yuesha and asked her a few questions, which Lin Yuesha answered carefully.
She received praise for just a few pastries, so I'm sure she'll make a name for herself at the banquet later. If that's enough to make her famous, then her efforts without taking any money won't have been in vain.
"This girl is beautiful, and she already has excellent skills even before she's of marriageable age."
When Qin saw Lin Yuesha's face, she understood everything. She had heard that the girl had secretly come to the capital, and she knew that she was a woman with her own ideas. She never expected that Lin Yuesha would know how to scheme and actually get on the good side of Prince Luo.
"This must be Miss Lin. Has she already been recognized by her ancestors?"
In the back row, Madam Bai spoke first, directly revealing Lin Yuesha's identity.
One sentence left everyone stunned: What does it mean to "recognize one's ancestors"? It sounds like someone of high status.
"Oh, our Youran knows Miss Lin. Miss Lin is the daughter of Lord Lin."
Madam Bai made her point clear in one sentence, without any beating around the bush, embarrassing the two women in front of Madam Qin.
