Chapter 602 Leaving the Mansion
Lin Shusheng explained everything to Jiaoniang, and Lin Yuesha heard everything the two discussed.
After waiting for about an hour, around midnight, Lin Shusheng finally summoned his attendants. The two of them carried the bodies of Qin Shi and her maids and servants onto a small cart, retrieved the sealed evidence from the yamen, and opened the gate of Yu Zicheng's residence.
After struggling with the thought of Lin Shusheng hiding the body, Lin Yuesha decided not to go and see it; she was somewhat afraid.
"If you don't want to look, then don't look. It should be hidden in the cellar."
Xiao Qi pulled Lin Yuesha to his residence. Lin Yuesha frowned in thought, her heart pounding, and it took her a while to calm down.
Women are inherently vulnerable. Even someone as shrewd as Qin Shi ended up like this. Meanwhile, Jiao Niang had been Lin Shusheng's mistress for almost ten years and had given birth to two sons, but she was also dragged down with him.
"The reason why Lin Shusheng is not afraid of the people behind the scenes is very reasonable."
At least, Lin Yuesha couldn't possibly report Lin Shusheng; even if she did, Jiaoniang would take her place.
With Qin Shi dead, is Jiao Niang a winner? Not really. She's just a scapegoat, someone who can be sacrificed at any time.
"Therefore, even if a man appears to be loyal and aloof from women, do not easily trust him."
Xiao Qi taught his younger sister, especially Luo Wang and Xu Da, that everyone has secrets, so don't easily open your heart to others.
"Brother Yun, are you saying that you can't be trusted either?"
Loyal and righteous, and not interested in women—that's exactly what pockmarked face is all about. The two are currently in a business relationship, and if anything goes wrong, she'll be sold out.
“I can certainly trust him, I mean the rest of the men.”
Xiao Qi emphasized that he would certainly not be like Lin Shusheng; if only one of them could survive, it would definitely be her, and it could only be her.
"Most men in the world are untrustworthy, and I have no dealings with them. Why should I trust them?"
Lin Yuesha was already mentally prepared, so family is the most important thing.
"Brother Yun, how can we build those small wooden cabins that are hidden deep in the mountains and not easily discovered?"
In reality, the pursuit of fame and fortune is the ultimate goal of life. If one has like-minded friends, one can live a secluded life in the mountains, hunting, weaving, and farming, which is just as easy and joyful, without any troubles.
"What, have you seen through the ways of the world?"
Xiao Qi mocked his younger sister, saying that what did a little girl in her teens know? Good days were ahead, and she couldn't assume that everyone was like Lin Shusheng just because she had met a few scumbags. He thought for a moment and said, "Becoming a nun is very hard. As a nun, you have to shave your head and practice asceticism. You have to get up before dawn to chant scriptures and you can't eat meat. You love eating meat so much, it won't work."
"Brother Yun, are you sure you haven't misunderstood?"
Lin Yuesha was shocked. This was going too far with her imagination. When did she say she was going to become a nun? Although there are many unfaithful men, there are also many handsome men. Looking at their faces is still acceptable.
"I was thinking that if I couldn't avoid the arranged marriage, I would have to make arrangements for my family."
This was an excuse, but in reality, it was a precautionary measure. If the pockmarked man really had rebellious intentions and took action, implicating her, she had to find a way to escape unscathed.
"I can't stay in Daqi anymore, can I go to the barbarians?" Lin Yuesha felt a headache coming on when she thought of those blue eyes.
Fortunately, the capital city is too far from the barbarian territory, so that one shouldn't dare to linger under the emperor's feet in the Great Qi.
"If you want, I can arrange it."
After transporting the corpse, Lin Shusheng washed up, then snuggled into bed with his beloved. Xiao Qi and Lin Yuesha were waiting in the shadows, but they decided to skip the scene that was inappropriate for children.
"Let's go, I'll take you home."
Xiao Qi made arrangements: starting tomorrow, they should feign illness, but not suddenly become seriously ill, as that would be unbelievable.
"But I was unconscious, and my parents and older brother didn't know. When the news got to them, the family was in chaos!"
Lin Yuesha thought about what would happen next. She was going to put on an act, but if she deceived her family like this, the consequences could be very serious, especially since her father was still sick.
"Don't worry, I will send Qingxing to inform Jiang Baozhu of everything."
Xiao Qi and his younger sister discussed the details again and then sent the person back to the Lin residence.
Lin Yuesha thought the night would be peaceful and she wanted to get a good night's sleep to prepare for her feigned illness. However, as soon as she lay down, a commotion broke out in the mansion.
Someone was shouting at the top of their lungs at night, and the sound carried far away.
"Miss, it seems to be commotion coming from Lin Yue'e's courtyard."
Bai Cha listened carefully and replied.
"Never mind her."
Lin Yuesha turned to the side, covering her ears with both hands. Actually, she had just overheard Lin Shusheng and Jiao Niang talking, and the amount of information was too much for her to fully process. She was extremely tired because of the mental strain.
"Bang bang bang".
As if someone was deliberately trying to antagonize Lin Yuesha, there was a knock on the courtyard gate.
"Who could it be at this hour?"
Lin Yuesha scratched her hair in frustration and ordered Longjing to open the courtyard gate. There stood Pipa, the maidservant beside Lin Yue'e, looking helpless.
"Longjing, is Miss Yuesha asleep?"
The pipa arrived uninvited, heading straight into the courtyard.
Longjing rolled her eyes and retorted, "It's the middle of the night, and you're shouting outside. My young lady has been woken up from her sleep."
After Pipa entered the room, she saw that Lin Yuesha's eyes were dazed, and she was in a half-asleep state.
"Miss Yue Sha, I apologize for disturbing you. It's just that my mistress wants to leave the manor, and I can't persuade her to stay."
Pipa was also in a dilemma, and she would never ask Lin Yuesha for help unless she had no other choice.
"At this hour?"
Lin Yuesha's eyes gradually focused, just like someone who had been woken up. She took a sip of tea to refresh herself and asked, "It's the middle of the night, there's a curfew in the inner city, what is she doing out of the manor?"
"Madam has not returned and has not sent anyone to deliver a message, which has never happened before. Our young lady is extremely anxious and insists on going out to look for her."
For some reason, Lin Yue'e seemed preoccupied all day, especially after having dinner with Old Madam Lin, saying she had a bad feeling.
“It’s the middle of the night, and it’s not appropriate for a young maid like her to go out. Since Madam hasn’t returned, the task of finding her should be left to Father.”
Since they were nominally sisters, Lin Yuesha felt it would be inappropriate not to visit them, so she changed into a simple dress and let her hair down.
"Of course the young lady thought of that, but... the master is not at home."
Pipa became suspicious. She hadn't heard of any cases at the yamen. The master had dinner at the mansion, so why did he sneak out while the madam wasn't around? This was very suspicious.
That's why Lin Yue'e couldn't sit still any longer and rushed out to look for someone. She wanted to go to the Qin family to see if Qin Shi had gone back to her parents' home.
"Let's go, let's go and take a look at your young lady's courtyard first."
Lin Yuesha, accompanied by Granny Fang and Bai Cha, headed straight for Lin Yue'e's courtyard. As soon as they arrived at the gate, they found that Lin Yue'e and her maids had already prepared everything, and it seemed they were about to leave by carriage.
What brings you here?
Lin Yue'e didn't want to see Lin Yuesha; she was going to find her mother, and it had nothing to do with Lin Yuesha.
