Chapter 852 Falling into the Trap
Li Ruoshuang felt uncomfortable. She took a liking to one of the lamps, even if the city lord didn't give it to her as a gift, but rather under the guise of a reward.
"The rest is taking up space, burn it."
Yuwen Kun spoke calmly, showing no regret.
"You did all of that yourself, and you even got injured doing it, how could you..."
They burned it without hesitation, leaving no room for compromise.
A fire reduced all the lanterns in the courtyard to ashes, a sight Li Ruoshuang found heartbreaking.
"The lanterns are for the women we admire. Lin Yuesha has already accepted the beauty lantern made by this city lord, so the rest are of no value."
Because it had no value and Yuwen Kun didn't want to benefit others, he burned it all.
Li Ruoshuang couldn't bring herself to ask for it; she lowered her head and whispered her agreement.
She was envious and jealous to the point of madness. Back in the girls' school, Li Ruoshuang was jealous of Lin Yuesha's popularity and the fact that she was well-liked by the governess. Now, Li Ruoshuang was jealous of Lin Yuesha being cherished by Yuwen Kun.
If Lin Yuesha were to disappear one day, would the city lord even glance at him?
Li Ruoshuang asked herself honestly, and the answer was no; she didn't deserve it.
"Have our men prepare tonight."
Yuwen Kun instructed Li Ruoshuang to deliver a message; this was a last-minute arrangement on his part.
"Lord, the time is not yet ripe. If our men make a move tonight, we will surely alert the enemy."
Li Ruoshuang paused, taking a while to process what she had heard. She thought she had misheard; this decision was unlike Yuwen Kun's style.
"I promised Yue Sha that I would take her to the underground tunnels to search for treasure."
Yuwen Kun explained that he was currently filled with joy and eager to share it with others.
Helian Cheng had been keeping an eye on him. If he didn't find something for Helian Cheng to do to distract him, he wouldn't be able to find an opportunity.
Li Ruoshuang couldn't believe it, so the city lord, in order to please Lin Yuesha, sent his men to use a trick to assassinate Helian Cheng. What's the difference between this and the story of the beacon fires that amused the feudal lords? It's utterly absurd!
"Do you have any objections?"
After waiting for a while, Li Ruoshuang was still in a daze, which displeased Yuwen Kun, and his voice turned cold.
"Your subordinate dares not."
Li Ruoshuang couldn't describe her feelings at that moment. It was as if she had been doused with cold water in the dead of winter, and her whole body was chilled to the bone. She took a step back and ran out the door.
Upon entering the courtyard, Li Ruoshuang saw the lanterns filling the yard and smiled bitterly. She took out a tinderbox, but just as she was about to light it, she suddenly regretted it and secretly hid her favorite fairy lantern.
Li Ruoshuang deceived herself, taking it as a gift from the city lord.
As night fell, another group of men in black arrived at Helian Cheng's mansion. Lin Yuesha, who had just drifted off to sleep, was awakened once again. She opened her eyes and saw the great demon standing in front of the beauty lamp, which she was already used to.
Lin Yuesha thought to herself with a self-deprecating smile that her transformation from initial fear to fearlessness was entirely due to being trained; she had become much more resilient.
It seems that Helian Cheng is not a good person and has enemies all over the world. Lin Yuesha has only been at Helian Cheng's mansion for a few days, and she has already encountered three groups of black-clad men who came to assassinate her, not to mention Yunxiang, who is hiding in the mansion and ready to sharpen her knife at any time.
"The timing is perfect, let's go."
Yuwen Kun turned around and looked at Lin Yuesha with gentle eyes.
That look sent chills down Lin Yuesha's spine, giving her goosebumps all over.
There was no way around it; the image of the great demon's brutality was already deeply ingrained in people's minds. Lin Yuesha had finally found a way to survive in the cracks, and now that the person in front of her had slipped out of her control, she was filled with fear.
Where are you going?
Lin Yuesha asked the question knowing the answer already; she probably had no choice.
"Find the treasure, and I'll compensate you for the silver hairpin you lost during the day."
Yuwen Kun waited for a while, but Lin Yuesha didn't make a move. He said impatiently, "Are you coming over on your own, or do you want me to carry you?"
"They're here!"
Lin Yuesha put on her shoes and got out of bed, her whole body wrapped up tightly. In her purse was a talisman she had obtained from Yutan Temple to ward off evil spirits.
The two walked into the courtyard one after the other, but were stopped by Li Ruoshuang, who ran out from the side.
"Lord, I have something important to report."
Li Ruoshuang glanced at Lin Yuesha, then hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but couldn't.
"Then I'll excuse myself."
Lin Yuesha was hoping for the best, that something unexpected would happen so she wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
"We'll talk about it when we get back."
Yuwen Kun waved his hand, his men had already taken action. He had to take advantage of the chaos to get Lin Yuesha down into the tunnel. It would be troublesome if Helian Cheng realized what was happening later and then made a move.
Feeling hot all over, Li Ruoshuang felt ashamed and wanted to pounce on Yuwen Kun. She gritted her teeth and bit her tongue until it bled before she could barely hold back.
Li Ruoshuang suspected that something had been laced with her dinner that evening. She tested it with a silver needle and found it to be non-toxic, although some powders could not be detected.
She had some doubts that evening, but just now, the feeling of heat became even stronger.
Before Li Ruoshuang could say anything more, Yuwen Kun grabbed Lin Yuesha's clothes, lifted her up, and leaped onto the roof.
Lin Yuesha was unaware that she had missed the opportunity to take the antidote; at the moment, she felt nothing.
Aunt Jing was going to send her a message, but because she ate too much for dinner, Lin Yuesha didn't go to the kitchen and therefore didn't hear a word of it.
Where are we going?
Lin Yuesha's vision went black, and she almost fell off the roof. She had no choice but to hold on tightly to the great demon's clothes.
Sure enough, that gentle look in her eyes was deceiving; Yuwen Kun was probably plotting how to mess with her.
"Helian Cheng's courtyard."
Yuwen Kun had a change of heart and decided to rescue Xu Da as a gift for Lin Yuesha.
"Really, will you save my cousin?"
Lin Yuesha wanted to use Yuwen Kun, but he was stubborn and difficult. If she took the initiative to beg, she would be manipulated and made to serve as the great demon's servant.
"Yes, as you said, he is the city lord's brother-in-law."
Yuwen Kun's tone became relaxed, and he said nonchalantly.
Today he stole the guard's key and went to the market to have it copied. Of course, he had no money, so he became a pickpocket for the first time.
Lin Yuesha would never know these things, and Yuwen Kun would never tell her.
In the past, when he was interested in someone, he considered whether that person had any value to him or how much leverage they had. But when it came to Lin Yuesha, he wanted to give something in return.
Yuwen Kun didn't understand, but he was trying hard to learn.
Rescuing Xu Da was not as easy as he had imagined, but he did it anyway.
Lin Yuesha was secretly delighted at first, but then felt a little disappointed. She knew that she owed the great favor, and the big devil would have to pay it back sooner or later.
Inside the main courtyard, Helian Cheng and Han Lu were hiding inside a coffin, cursing under their breath. The coffin had a mechanism that made it difficult to pry it open from the outside.
However, this time the men in black came with great force. They weren't the pushovers they used to be.
"It must be Qi Heng's men who came to rescue Xu Da. They've hidden him well!"
Helian Cheng was anxious; the fighting inside the room continued, and no victor had yet been decided.
After capturing Xu Da, Da Qi remained silent, which made Helian Cheng suspicious. He thought Qi Heng had given up, but unexpectedly, he actually came.
