Chapter 951 Guarding

Chapter 951 Guarding

"You snobs, this is no longer the time to beg my young lady!"

Chunyu cursed angrily. The garrison was now surrounded by the Wei family. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding. Before things were clear, the Zhao family was acting like this, so eager to sever ties. It was truly disheartening.

"Yes, Miss is kind-hearted and treats us servants well, but aren't we servants supposed to obey our masters?"

The gatekeepers looked helpless. The master had given the order not to let Zhao Jingya into the mansion, and they, as lowly servants, dared not make such a decision on their own.

"you……"

Spring Rain stomped her feet in anger, but Summer Harvest stopped her.

Arguing with the Zhao family's gatekeeper was pointless; everything depended on the young lady's decision.

"I know you have your difficulties, so I won't force you, but..."

The Zhao family's attitude chilled Zhao Jingya to the bone; they must have received bad news and were thus trying to distance themselves.

The servants knew very little, and Zhao Jingya couldn't find out the inside story, but she was unwilling to give up.

Her father only cared about his future and official position, so Zhao Jingya set her sights on her mother.

"Go and tell Madam to come out through the side gate. My daughter and I haven't seen each other for several days."

Zhao Jingya slipped a piece of silver to the gatekeeper, which was at least five taels, asking him to help her pass on a message.

Her not entering the Zhao residence doesn't mean her mother can't go out.

Tempted by the money, the gatekeeper weighed his options repeatedly before finally agreeing, "Miss, since you've put it this way, I'll have to run errands for you. But would Madam be willing to go out..."

"This has nothing to do with you, and you will not be implicated in anything."

Zhao Jingya urged the gatekeeper, and then led Chunyu and Xiahe to wait at the most inconspicuous side gate of the Zhao residence.

"What's with all this arrogance!"

Chunyu's face was ashen; she looked terrible.

The gatekeeper, Xiao Liu, has truly forgotten his roots. Years ago, when he fell seriously ill and had no one to care for him, it was his young mistress who took pity on him and paid out of her own pocket to hire a doctor.

"Those are all old, trivial matters, let's not talk about them."

Zhao Jingya sighed, her thoughts a jumble of emotions.

"Miss, you're just too kind-hearted. If it weren't for your kindness back then, it's uncertain whether Xiao Liu would even be breathing right now!"

Chunyu was furious. Back then, it was she who went to the city to invite the doctor. Her young lady's monthly allowance was not much, and almost all of it went to Xiao Liuzi.

Now that he's become a doorman and is in power, he doesn't respect her young lady at all. What an ungrateful wretch!

"Spring Rain, say less."

Xia He tugged at Chunyu's arm, signaling her to shut up.

The Zhao family is the young lady's maternal home, so the young lady is the one who is most saddened by these events.

After waiting for about half an hour, just as Zhao Jingya decided to give up, the side gate opened a crack.

It was completely dark when a shadowy figure flashed by at the side gate, startling Chunyu so much that she almost screamed.

"Spring rain, that's me."

A dark figure appeared in a flash. Chunyu looked closely and saw that it was Qiufeng, who served the lady.

"Qiufeng, it's you? Where is Madam?"

Spring rain peeks out cautiously, but there's no one behind Autumn Maple.

"Let's talk in the young lady's carriage first."

Qiu Feng waved his hand and got into Zhao Jingya's carriage first.

Xiao Liuzi went to the main courtyard to deliver a message. The master and madam were both there. The master was afraid that the madam would soften her heart and let the young lady in, so he kept her from leaving.

"Little Liu is clever; he sent a message to this servant."

The lady was under guard and couldn't get away at all, so she instructed Qiu Feng to find a moment to go to the side gate to report back.

"This servant thought you had gone back, Miss. Fortunately, you are still here."

Qiu Feng straightened her clothes. She had run all the way here without carrying a lantern, for fear of being discovered by the guards watching the courtyard.

"Does my mother have something to say to me?"

Zhao Jingya broke out in a sweat and sent Chunyu and Xiahe to guard the carriage in case anyone from the Zhao family came after her.

“Miss, the madam has learned that you did not return to the garrison commander’s residence and has told you not to go back, but to hide in the villa in the fishing village for a while.”

They probably haven't received any news from the villa yet, and the fishing village is secluded, so it's good to take this time to recuperate.

What exactly happened to my husband's family?

Zhao Jingya held Qiu Feng's hand, her hands trembling uncontrollably.

If the situation hadn't been so serious, her mother would never have told her to hide in the fishing village, which means the Wu family is likely doomed.

"This servant is not quite sure either. With the master's spies around, the madam can't say much. It seems that the garrison commander is connected to General Qi, which is why the Wei family holds a grudge against him."

Perhaps it wasn't just resentment; given the Wei family's ruthless approach to eliminating any potential threats, no one in the Wu family would escape unscathed.

The Wei family is just using the excuse of incompetence to put people under surveillance.

“Miss, Madam knows that you and your husband have a good relationship, but you are pregnant now and no one knows. You have to think about yourself and leave an heir for the Wu family!”

As Qiu Feng spoke, he choked up.

Zhao Jingya clutched her lower abdomen, her emotions a complex mix that defied description.

Only her mother and her trusted maid Qiufeng knew that she was pregnant.

She had irregular periods before, but she didn't take it seriously. It was her mother who reminded her to see a doctor.

Zhao Jingya hadn't had a chance to tell her husband, Wu Shan, the good news yet.

It seems that things are more serious than imagined, and there is not much Zhao Jingya can do. She has to ask Qi Heng and Lin Yuesha for help.

“Miss, you must remember what Madam said. Do not act on emotion. If you return to the garrison, you will be in a passive position.”

Qiu Feng repeatedly instructed her that she still needed to return to the manor to serve the madam and should not leave for too long.

"Qiufeng, tell my mother that I did what she said so that she wouldn't have to worry about me."

Zhao Jingya wiped away her tears, calmed herself down, and then said, "However, there is something I would like to ask you for help with."

“Miss, please feel free to ask if you can do it.”

Qiu Feng had once received a favor from Zhao Jingya, and she said it with certainty.

"There's a huge commotion outside, and I can't buy any medicine for injuries at the pharmacy. I also can't get back to the garrison headquarters. Can you think of a way to help me?"

Unable to return to the garrison headquarters, Zhao Jingya had no choice but to rely on the Zhao family.

"Miss, to be honest, we don't have many wound medicines left in our household."

Just yesterday, the Wei family's henchmen came to search the house and took away all the doctor's medicine and wound medicine.

"Your residence has been searched?"

The Zhao family was related to the Wu family by marriage, and thus were affected.

Zhao Jingya frowned, realizing she had no medicine in stock.

"Yes, but please don't worry, I have some secrets that I haven't handed over."

Qiu Feng got off the carriage. It was getting late, and she had to return to the main courtyard. She would then instruct the maid to deliver the medicine later.

Zhao Jingya waited a while longer before the side gate opened again.

A little girl, about five or six years old, peeked out, put a package on the ground, and ran away.

Chunyu intended to give the little girl cakes and coins, but the door slammed shut.

"Miss, Qiu Feng brought some medicine for your injuries."

Chunyu weighed the package in her hand; Qiufeng, that girl, was much smarter than her and had hidden quite a few things.
