This was the first time Xu Fengyun and his family had visited Meng Sheng's house in the Left Bank Courtyard since her divorce.
Actually, they hadn't come to Meng Sheng and Shang Boyu's wedding before. The only time they came was when Xu Fengyun brought Meng Sheng to inspect the renovation results, by which time the house had already been transferred to Meng Sheng's name.
Since it was a dowry for Meng Sheng, Xu Fengyun even covered the cost of the renovation.
As soon as they entered the password, Sisi greeted them warmly and hospitably, showing no shyness whatsoever. She first sniffed around to familiarize herself with the scents, and after they had all changed their shoes, she only rubbed against Pei Sui's feet before turning to Meng Sheng's feet.
It must have been too long since it had seen Meng Sheng. Not only did it rub against her with great force, but it also circled around her. When it turned a corner, it lay down on the ground, exposing its belly for her to touch.
But before Meng Sheng could squat down to touch it, it grabbed her legs and stood up, begging for a hug in a coquettish voice.
Meng Sheng smiled indulgently, bent down to pick it up, and stroked its fluffy head. "Little Sisi, it's been so long! Did you miss Mommy?"
Meow~
The little guy cooperated by shoving his head into her hand.
Who could resist her adorable way of acting cute?
"Oh my, whose cat is this? Sis, is it yours or your husband's?" Xu Pianran reached out and petted it, asking with delight.
"Your brother-in-law's."
"What's its name? How old is it?" Xu Pianran glanced at Sisi's rear end and said with a smile, "It's a female cat. It looks very friendly and not shy at all. I've seen my classmates' and friends' cats before, and several of the female cats were quite aloof and wouldn't let me hold them."
"Its name is Sisi. It's three years old and very well-behaved. If you don't know it, play with it for a while and feed it a piece of catnip. It will then jump into your lap and knead."
"Waaaaah, this is the cat of my dreams! My brother-in-law is so lucky!"
Meng Sheng chuckled, glancing at Pei Sui's retreating figure as he led Xu Fengyun and the others inside, and corrected him, "It's just that this little guy is lucky."
"Huh."
Xu Pianran nudged her gently and teased, "Sis, you're so protective of your brother-in-law."
Meng Sheng raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, otherwise why would he be your brother-in-law?"
"Hey sis, I suspect you're showing off your relationship to me, a single guy."
Meng Sheng asked quietly, "Aren't you dating anyone?"
Xu Pianran blinked her clear eyes and shook her head, "No."
Meng Sheng smiled and nodded, saying, "Yes, that's good. Study hard. Didn't your aunt say she'd send you abroad for two or three years of further study after you graduate?"
Mentioning this, Xu Pianran pouted. If she wanted to go abroad, she would have done so after graduating from high school.
Three years later, he still couldn't escape the fate of having to go abroad.
All she could think was, "English is so difficult."
"Forget it, I can't think about such sad stories, or I'll be so heartbroken that I'll lose my appetite." Xu Pianran immediately cheered up. "Give me Sisi, I'll play with her and get to know her better."
Meng Sheng let her take Sisi away, and sat on the sofa to chat with Xu Fengyun and Lou Shumin.
Within half an hour, her uncle and aunt were both captivated by the little one.
Xu Fengyun, in particular, was directly asked what breed Pei Sui's cat was, how much it cost, where it was bought, and even its habits.
Lou Shumin really didn't want him to embarrass himself too much in front of the younger generation, so she tried her best to suppress the urge to criticize him.
If this were at home, she would have already started talking.
Xu Fengyun was completely unaware, talking while teasing Sisi from time to time. When Sisi got tired of playing, she even lay down on his lap.
It wasn't until lunchtime that Xu Fengyun finally reluctantly placed it gently on the sofa.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was harmonious. Xu Fengyun said to Meng Sheng, "It would be nice to have a small animal around, especially for your dad. You and your brother rarely come back to the north of the city, and he must be lonely at home alone. Once he is discharged from the hospital, we can get him a small animal for company. That would be great."
Meng Sheng paused, turned her head to look at Si Si who was fast asleep on the sofa, and actually thought this was a good idea.
She nodded. "There are many kittens and puppies in the stray animal rescue center. Adoption instead of buying is a good thing. We can go and pick one out and see if he likes cats or dogs more."
Lou Shumin: "Hey, this is good. Old Xu, if you want to raise one someday, you can go and adopt one."
Xu Fengyun waved his hand, "Let's talk about it in a few years. I don't have that much time right now. If you like, you can adopt one."
The group discussed adopting cats until they finished their meal, and around 3 p.m., Xu Fengyun and his family got up to say goodbye.
Meng Sheng had originally invited them to stay for dinner before returning home, but they politely declined, saying they would be visiting Deqing later to see Meng Chengli.
She figured that by the time she finished seeing her father, it would probably be five o'clock, and the journey back to the north of the city was quite long. If it was rush hour, there would be traffic jams, so she didn't insist anymore and went with Pei Sui to the underground parking lot to see them off.
Before she got on the bus, Lou Shumin repeatedly told her to take good care of herself, to pay attention to her health, and to rest and eat on time.
Meng Sheng smiled and agreed.
Suddenly, Xu Pianran hugged her and said, "Sister, I'll come see you again next time I have a holiday."
Meng Sheng gently patted her back and said softly, "Okay, I'm going to Tokyo in a while, and I'll bring you a gift then."
Xu Pianran's eyes lit up. "Okay."
Meng Shixu also wanted to go to the hospital with them. After watching their car disappear from sight, Pei Sui took Meng Sheng upstairs.
Meng Sheng got up early in the morning, and after waiting for the chefs to finish cleaning up the kitchen and say goodbye before leaving, she felt sleepy and took an afternoon nap with Pei Sui.
When I woke up, it was already past five o'clock.
Dinner didn't require much effort. The soup the chef had made at noon was still left, and there were some prepared side dishes in the refrigerator. Pei Sui simply stir-fried two dishes. After eating, he took her for a walk nearby to aid digestion.
When they returned, Pei Sui squeezed her hand and asked in a low voice, "Are you okay alone tonight?"
Meng Sheng was taken aback, but seeing his expression, she immediately understood. She knew that he was respecting her, her brother, and the Meng family.
She smiled knowingly and asked in return, "Are you afraid my brother will have a problem with it?"
Pei Sui sighed and pulled her into his arms. "That's why I want to marry you as soon as possible. That way, whatever I do will be more legitimate."
Meng Sheng chuckled and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist. "I'm fine."
