Chapter 524 The Breath Faded

Pei Sui, dressed in a black suit, had one hand in his pocket. His handsome features were cold and indifferent. He simply nodded slightly before stepping into the main hall.

Seated in the main hall were the younger members of the Cui family, led by his two older cousins, along with a younger cousin and two younger cousins.

There were two men and two women standing nearby. Pei Sui looked at them and frowned. After thinking for a moment, he remembered who they were.

They are the children of Cui Xueheng's cousins.

In other words, they are the children of his two maternal uncles.

The relationship wasn't far off, but it wasn't close either, at least not for Pei Sui, because Cui Xueheng had basically never taken him back to the Cui family home, and the two places were far apart, so it was impossible for them to meet in other places.

On the few occasions he returned to the Cui family, it was only after the old lady insisted that Cui Xueheng take him back that Cui Xueheng reluctantly agreed.

When everyone saw him, except for Cui Yuanshan and a few others who were crying, the older people stood up and greeted him.

Pei Sui didn't react much, giving a curt nod in response without lingering, and went straight into the inner room.

When he entered, Cui Zhengqing and Cui Xueying were talking to Cui Xueheng around the bedside. Cui Zhengqing's eyes were red, and Cui Xueying's eyes were filled with tears.

Cui Xueheng was still unable to speak and was in low spirits, but she knew that they had come to see her and that her days were numbered, so she was trying her best not to fall asleep.

Otherwise, once she falls asleep, she won't know if she'll have a chance to wake up again.

Death was a relief for her, nothing to be afraid of, but seeing so many people crying for her now, she felt a pang of reluctance.

Seeing his sister like this, Cui Zhengqing felt heartbroken. He turned to Pei Yu, "Yu...isn't there any antidote? Are you just going to watch your mother die like this? She..."

Before he could finish speaking, he saw Pei Sui walk in.

His grief and sorrow instantly transformed into rage, a fury erupting like a volcano, sweeping over everything. "Pei Sui, you've finally shown yourself! Look what you've done to your mother! For that woman, you've even abandoned your own mother! You..."

Pei Sui didn't even glance at him. He walked straight to the edge of the bed and looked down at Cui Xueheng, who was lying on the bed with a bluish complexion and forehead.

Her eyes had little color, appearing empty and lifeless, and were also bloodshot.

The moment she saw Pei Sui, a glimmer of life returned to her eyes, and she exhaled through her oxygen mask, her breath misting over her entire face.

Pei Sui seemed to hear her utter a soft "uh," and knew that she wanted to say something.

Even my heart rate has increased.

The instrument suddenly emitted a warning beep. Seeing this, Cui Xueying panicked and immediately pushed Pei Sui away, shouting, "Get out! Your mother doesn't want to see you at all!"

As she spoke, she grabbed Cui Xueheng's hand, her eyes brimming with tears, and said, "Sister, don't worry, don't worry, I'll make him leave right now, so he won't get in your way."

"Dr. Qiao! Dr. Zhao!" Pei Yu quickly stepped forward and called out to the two doctors who were standing guard nearby.

Pei Sui's expression remained unchanged despite their harsh words; it was cold and indifferent from beginning to end.

Even when Cui Xueying pushed him, he remained unmoved, just standing there. Dandan and Cui Xueheng stared at each other, and when the doctor arrived, he looked away and took a few steps back.

Everyone in the room looked sad; some had red eyes, while others were crying.

He seemed out of place, his indifferent demeanor making it seem as if the person lying on the bed, on the verge of death, was neither his relative nor a stranger, but rather an enemy.

Pei Sui glanced at the heart rate monitor, gave a disdainful smirk, turned around and stepped back to the old lady, speaking her first words, "Grandma."

The old lady held his hand tenderly, "Ah Sui, sit down for a while, don't take it to heart."

"Um."

Pei Sui responded indifferently and sat down in the chair next to her.

Cui Xueheng made two more "ee" sounds, barely managing to utter two notes, "A-Sui..."

But at that moment, her heart rate was unstable, and her internal organs were aching slightly. The two notes became very low, and no one noticed them in the chaotic scene.

She stared intently at Cui Xueying, who was crying and begging the doctor to save her.

No.

It wasn't that she didn't want to see Asui; she just wanted to say a few words to him, to tell him the passwords to the two cards she had specially left for him.

But she said nothing. In her hazy vision, she seemed to see someone slowly walking towards her in the distance, waving at her.

It's like they're saying hello.

She was unaware of how fast time was passing. The people and things around her receded quickly like the tide. She could only watch quietly as that person slowly approached her. The distance seemed very far, and the person walked with great difficulty and effort.

Her initial agitation subsided suddenly, and her heart rate gradually decreased, bringing a sigh of relief to everyone.

However, Cui Xueheng still couldn't make it through the night. Around four in the morning, the toxins in her body became completely uncontrollable and spread to her heart. In a daze, her heart stopped beating, and the heart rate monitor emitted a long "beep" sound.

The incident completely woke up everyone who was guarding the house. The doctor immediately went forward to check on her, but Cui Xueheng had already stopped breathing.

The doctor straightened up, lowered his eyes in grief, and reported the time of death: "August 3, 4:06 a.m., Madam Pei Cui Xueheng passed away."

In an instant, a cacophony of loud cries erupted from inside the house.

When Pei Sui came out of the house, the younger generation of the Cui family rushed into the room.

After leaving the main hall, he stood under the eaves of the courtyard, gazing at the huge weeping crabapple tree. In the darkness, a trace of emotion flickered in his cold and deep eyes, but it quickly returned to calm.

A gust of wind swept by, rustling the leaves of the trees in the courtyard. Soon after, raindrops began to fall one by one.

More than 20 years ago, he "lost" his mother; more than 20 years later, he lost his mother.
