The man who had bought the mushrooms stared at Xie Zhuo a few more times.
Xie Zhuo kept his handsome face expressionless, seemingly getting a little impatient with being stared at. "What do you want from me? I need to go back for dinner."
The man then looked away and said, "I don't know if you remember me. I bought your mushrooms in Xiaojing Alley more than a month ago."
Xie Zhuo pretended to think for a moment, then shook his head, "I don't remember, but a lot of people bought my mushrooms."
The man frowned.
“Then, can I come to your house for a while?” the man said again. “Just to make friends. I’m from the city, my name is Wang Xiangdong.”
"I'm afraid that won't work," Xie Zhuo refused without even thinking. "We didn't cook for you at home."
“Hey, Xie Laosan, you did this on purpose, didn’t you?” Wang Chao frowned. “We’re not going there to freeload. There are some things we can’t talk about standing on the main road, so we suggested going to your house.”
“Oh, you’re not here to freeload a meal,” Xie Zhuo glanced at him. “Then let’s go to your place.”
As he spoke, he was about to walk towards Wang Chao's house.
"Hey, who said we were going to my house?" Wang Chao immediately glared at him and ran over to block his way. "We're already at your doorstep!"
Xie Zhuo didn't say anything, looked at him for a while, then turned his head and glanced around at Wang Xiangdong, saying the same thing again, "We didn't cook for you at home."
"Damn it! I told you I wasn't going there to freeload!" Wang Chao said.
“Then let’s go to your place,” Xie Zhuo said.
Wang Chao didn't allow these people to come to his house, mainly because there had been a lot of things going on at home recently. The "war" between his mother and Zhang Zi had reached a fever pitch, and the two of them had a fight in the morning when they weren't around.
His mother scratched Zhang Zi's neck until it bled, and Zhang Zi pulled out a small clump of his mother's hair.
They didn't dare to ask Qian Yong to take a look, for fear of losing face.
A large group of people standing on the road quickly attracted the attention of the villagers. Many people thought something had happened to Xie Zhuo again and gathered around to see.
Upon seeing Wang Chao again, their expressions darkened.
Lately, Wang Chao has been leading people to ruin things in the mountains all the time.
He's a complete scoundrel.
"Why did you bring people again?" one of the men asked with a dark face. "Want to start a fight again?"
"That's right, weren't you beaten enough last time?" another older man said. "I think you're asking for a beating. Your father's gone, so you think you can do whatever you want now, huh?"
Wang Chao's face stiffened as they spoke to him.
“No, Third Uncle,” he said, “we just want to have a chat with Xie Laosan.”
"Let's chat?" The man called Third Uncle raised his voice. "Chat about what? What do you need so many people to block someone's doorway to talk about?"
Xu Yan was waiting at home for Xie Zhuo and the others to have dinner, but after waiting for a long time, they still hadn't arrived. She could also faintly hear a commotion, so she quickly got up and went out the door.
A noisy group of people were just a few hundred meters from her house.
Xu Yan spotted Xie Zhuo in the crowd at a glance.
“We just saw it and chatted casually,” Wang Chao said. “If you don’t believe me, ask Xie Zhuo.”
As she spoke, she turned her gaze to Xie Zhuo.
The crowd was also watching Xie Zhuo.
Xie Zhu didn't even lift his eyelids. He had been indifferent just now, but now he frowned slightly and said with a hint of reluctance in his voice, "They want to come to my house for dinner."
As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd erupted into chaos.
"You shameless rascal, do you think hanging out with a few city folks for a couple of days makes you no longer a country bumpkin?"
"I even pleaded for you because of your father's sake, otherwise, the captain would have sent you all to the police station that day!"
"Bringing such a large group of people to Xie Laosan's house for dinner, are you planning to eat up all their food for the New Year?"
"I took a bunch of people to his house for dinner today, who knows, maybe I'll go to your house for dinner tomorrow!"
"What's wrong with the brigade this year? It's all just a bunch of messy things!"
"Damn it!" Wang Chao exclaimed, his eyes wide. "When did I say I was going to his house for dinner? Who eats at this hour?"
He had just finished shouting when a woman's voice interrupted, loud and clear, "Xie Zhuo, I told you to find Da Bao and Xiao Bao for dinner, why are you here causing trouble?"
Wang Chao: "..."
He glared at Xu Yan, somewhat exasperated, but Xie Zhuo slightly turned his body to block his view.
The farce ended before the captain arrived.
As Wang Chao led his men back, he glanced at Xie Zhuo several times.
Xie Zhuo narrowed his eyes, but lowered them again before the people around him looked over, as if he were being threatened.
Wang Chao was furious.
Da Bao and Xiao Bao also went home before the excitement completely ended. This was mainly because Xiao Shuanzi was a bit of a gossip, and he would rush over to any noise he heard.
However, by the time they ran over, it was already over.
Da Bao and Xiao Bao went home with Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo.
After finishing their meal, they ran off to play at the main gate.
Xu Yan helped Xie Zhuo rinse the clean dishes and chopsticks with water again. After waiting for the noise outside to stop, she asked, "Is the person next to Wang Chao the one you met in the city before?"
"Okay," Xie Zhuo put the bowl into the cupboard.
"So they suddenly came over today..." Xu Yan poured out the water from the basin, "...just to find you, right?"
“Probably,” Xie Zhuo said, noticing that Xu Yan’s hands were still wet, and took a clean towel to wipe them for her. “She probably searched for wild ginseng for several days without finding any, and then she thought of me.”
"So what do you plan to do?" Xu Yan asked, a little worried.
