Chapter 136 "Melee"

Xie Zhuo didn't speak, but looked down at Xu Yan for a while before slowly asking, "Which one are you referring to?"

Xu Yan stared at him.

“I didn’t specifically hire someone to beat him up,” Xie Zhuo chuckled. “He was following me yesterday and accidentally clashed with a big shot in the black market.”

He spoke casually, but Xu Yan still noticed something in his subtle expression.

If you accidentally bump into someone, it's unlikely you'd get such a serious injury.

But she didn't ask any further questions.

The farce lasted for more than half an hour. Song Guangming's face was so dark it could have dripped ink. He glared at Chen Jinxiang, who was still cursing, and then glared at Wang Guilan, who had "stirred up trouble."

Zhao Bin took a step forward and stood in front of his mother.

Song Guangming was speechless.

He felt like he was in bad luck this year, and although there was a crackdown on feudal superstition, he really wanted to find a temple to offer incense.

There wasn't a single peaceful day.

Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo stood outside the crowd the whole time. When the excitement ended, they didn't join in the gossip. Instead, they turned around and went home.

I still have work to do today.

and……

"Did you eat the breakfast I heated up in the pot for you?" Xie Zhuo wanted to hold Xu Yan's hand, but there were too many people around, so he restrained himself and didn't reach out. He just moved a little closer to her.

“Ah,” Xu Yan looked up at him.

"What 'ah'?" Xie Zhu clicked his tongue. "Did you eat it or not?"

Xu Yan blinked, her eyelashes fluttering upwards like tiny fans: "I was in a rush to see the excitement and didn't think about eating."

Xie Zhuo glanced at her several times, but in the end, he didn't say what was on the tip of his tongue.

When Xie Zhuo got home, he took the corn out of the pot and put it on a plate, then ladled a bowl of porridge for Xu Yan before riding his bicycle out again.

When it rained a couple of days ago, the yard was so wet that it was impossible to walk in, so he thought he would pave a path in the yard with bricks after the weather cleared up.

Then we won't be afraid of rain anymore, and we won't have to walk in muddy conditions when it snows in winter.

The bricks were arranged in advance at a brick kiln in the county town; he only needed to go there today, pay the money, and give the industrial ticket to take them home.

With so much happening today, everyone's conversation and attention were focused on Wang Chao. So when Xie Zhuo and Liu Mancang pushed their cart carrying bricks into their house, not many people paid much attention.

The three strong young men worked quickly, and by the afternoon they had finished laying the bricks on the area Xie Zhuo wanted to lay.

Xie Zhuo told the two of them to take the remaining bricks whichever family needed them, but Liu Mancang and Zhao Jisheng refused to take them.

“Hey, it’s not that complicated,” Liu Mancang said. “It’s been like this for almost twenty years, it doesn’t matter whether it’s paved or not.”

Zhao Jisheng also shook his head, "You know my family situation, my cousin..."

He didn't continue, but thinking of Zhao Jihou, Xie Zhuo didn't want to give up the brick.

After all, their two families now live in the same courtyard.

With the remaining bricks, Xie Zhuo fenced off a small vegetable garden in a corner of the yard. Liu Mancang even asked what kind of vegetables could be grown in such a small space.

Xie Zhuo glanced at him and said, "Next spring, plant a few flowers for Xiao Xu, the educated youth."
