Xu Yan glanced at him.
“Getting married is great,” Xiao Bao suddenly interjected. “My third uncle got married, and my third aunt came to our house. Isn’t that wonderful?”
"You have such a sweet tongue," Xie Zhuo teased Xiao Bao, mimicking his tone. "Wouldn't it be wonderful if you were this well-behaved when you went to sleep?"
Xiao Bao stopped talking.
He's been having trouble falling asleep lately; after hearing one story, he wants to hear another.
Sometimes Xie Zhuo would tell three stories in one night, and even after Da Bao had fallen asleep, he would still blink and beg Xie Zhuo to tell him one more.
Xie Zhuo had no problem at all. It was the off-season for farming recently. Apart from doing some odd jobs assigned by the brigade leader, he usually went hunting in the mountains with Liu Mancang and Zhao Jisheng. It was fine to stay up a little later.
But Xiao Bao is different. He's still growing and needs plenty of sleep. Besides, he has to get up early to go to school the next day, so he can't afford not to go to bed on time.
Xu Yan felt that he had something on his mind, but she couldn't get the answer after asking him several times. Xie Zhuo also tried to ask him in different ways several times, but still couldn't get the answer.
It was almost seven o'clock when they finished dinner. While Xie Zhu was washing the dishes, Xu Yan told him about what Da Bao had told her.
"Tell me," Xu Yan frowned, "does Xiao Bao miss his mother?"
Xie Zhu remained silent.
"How about..." Xu Yan started to say, but then stopped, unsure how to continue. Apart from Xie Zhuo's brother and sister-in-law, no one else knew what had happened back then.
If we rush over there rashly, who knows what unpredictable situations might arise?
"Let me talk to Da Bao and Xiao Bao again," Xie Zhuo put the bowl back in the cupboard. "If that doesn't work, I'll go back and talk to them again."
