Before dawn the next day, Xie Zhuo got up. He originally planned to make breakfast for Xu Yan and the others before leaving, but when he saw Xu Yan looking groggy after waking up, he couldn't help but want to kiss her.
With all this fuss, there wasn't enough time to make breakfast.
“It’s okay, I can cook porridge now,” Xu Yan said.
Zhao Bin waited at the gate in his tractor. About five minutes later, Xie Zhuo came out carrying his things.
It's colder than usual today; it's overcast, and the cold wind is blowing straight into people's clothes.
Xie Zhuo originally told Xu Yan not to come out, but Xu Yan, along with Da Bao and Xiao Bao who had just woken up, stood together at the gate until the tractor drove away before going back inside.
Although Da Bao and Xiao Bao had already cried once last night, they still couldn't hold back and cried for a long time today after seeing their third uncle leave.
Xu Yan patiently coaxed him for a while.
After the two kids had eaten breakfast and gone to school, Xu Yan tidied up the kitchen and went back to her room to start reading.
She usually does the same thing: get up, wash up, eat breakfast, tidy up the kitchen, and read.
But Xie Zhuo is usually in this group.
Xie Zhuo had just left today, and she suddenly felt a sense of loss. The quietness of the house made her feel a little uncomfortable, and she couldn't concentrate on her reading.
Xie Zhuo got off the tractor as soon as he entered the city because Zhao Bin was going to work and it wasn't on his way. Also, he needed to go see Lao He again.
He and Xu Yan had already come to the city to buy things yesterday afternoon, but Lao He heard that he was going to the southern province and asked him to come again this morning before going to the station.
It's all very mysterious.
But Xie Zhuo still came. After knocking on the door, Lao He opened it.
The two didn't exchange many pleasantries, and Xie Zhuo didn't even enter the house.
The two of them stood in the courtyard.
“Take this,” Old He said. “After you’ve finished your business, go to the place written on this note. Someone wants to see you.”
"Who?" Xie Zhuo frowned.
“The owner of that small company you invested in,” Lao He said, “she had wanted to meet you for a while, but you don’t go to Gangcheng, right? This time, when she heard you were going to Nan Province, she said she would go to Nan Province to meet you.”
Xie Zhuo was still frowning.
"You don't want to see him?" Old He could tell his emotions from his expression.
“There’s no need,” Xie Zhuo said.
“Hey, why not?” Old He’s voice suddenly rose a little, but then lowered it again for fear of being overheard. “Your money is all with them. If they have any designs on you, you’ll have nothing left.”
Xie Zhuo didn't speak, but after a while nodded, "I understand."
Looking at his reluctant expression, Lao He chuckled and said, "Don't let your current appearance fool you, you might not even want to come back after you see him."
Xie Zhuo glanced at him.
“She’s a real beauty,” Old He said.
Upon hearing this, Xie Zhuo paused for only a few seconds before stuffing the things he had just taken from Lao He back into his hands.
"What do you mean?" Old He was dumbfounded.
“It doesn’t mean anything,” Xie Zhuo said. “I have family waiting for me to come home, so it might not be right if I don’t come back.”
"No, I just said it offhand," Old He said, getting a little anxious. "They don't even know what you look like. They probably just want to meet the person who saved the company from disaster."
“There’s no need for that. I invest to make money,” Xie Zhuo said. “It’s not a question of whether or not to save them.”
Old He wanted to say something more, but Xie Zhuo was already preparing to leave.
"Really not going?" Old He still wanted to give it one last try.
“I’m not going,” Xie Zhuo turned to look at him. “If you try to persuade me any further, the train will leave and I won’t be able to go anywhere.”
Old He shut his mouth.
After leaving Lao He's place, Xie Zhuo practically ran all the way to catch the train. He originally thought he would only say a few words, but he ended up talking for a long time.
The train was crowded.
Whether now or in the later years of my previous life, it seems that there are always more people at the station.
People come and go.
People come, people leave.
Xie Zhuo's seat was by the window, next to a couple who looked like intellectuals. Since boarding the bus, each of them had been holding a newspaper and reading it quite attentively.
He was sitting opposite a middle-aged woman, and next to her was a girl who looked to be about eighteen or nineteen years old, probably the middle-aged woman's daughter. He had seen them talking when he first got on the bus.
Xie Zhuo didn't pay much attention to others. After stuffing his things under the seat, he took out a book that Xu Yan had brought him to pass the time and started reading.
"Hey, young man," the middle-aged woman opposite had been staring at Xie Zhuo for a while.
In the entire carriage, Xie Zhuo was the only one who looked like him.
Therefore, many people have seen him since he got on the bus.
Xie Zhuo raised his head.
"Where are you going? To visit relatives?" the middle-aged woman asked quickly.
Xie Zhuo glanced at her, then at the shy girl beside her, and said, "Going back to my hometown to visit relatives, to see my wife and children."
"Huh? You already have a child?" The middle-aged woman's voice was loud, attracting the attention of several people around them.
“He’s five years old,” Xie Zhuo said without changing his expression.
“Five years old…you don’t look that old,” the middle-aged woman said with some disappointment, and the girl next to her also looked unpleasant.
“I look young,” Xie Zhuo said, “but I’m actually thirty this year.”
The middle-aged woman stared at him for a long time before finally nodding.
After rambling on and on to deal with the person opposite him, Xie Zhuo settled down to read the book in his hand. Xu Yan had already read this book and had written some reflections in pencil.
