Xie Zhuo said that sooner or later they would be wiped out in one fell swoop, and they really were wiped out in one fell swoop.
However, some other things were also involved, such as the middle-aged man and the widow having an affair.
Anyway, every single thing was a mess, and once you got involved, it became a tangled mess. Several people from their brigade were also arrested, but nobody knew the specifics of why. However, some people were gossiping that it was related to that widow.
When Liu Mancang heard about this, he was completely stunned. He stood in front of Xie Zhuo, grabbed his arm, and called him "Third Brother" as if chanting a mantra.
Finally, Yang Shulan grabbed him by the ear and took him home. Later, Yang Shulan said that after returning home, he started reading day and night. She wondered if he had gone mad and was planning to find a fortune teller to secretly take a look at him.
“Auntie, please don’t,” Xie Zhuo said, “you’ll get arrested again, and we can’t do these things now.”
“I know,” Yang Shulan said, “This is a secret search, and Mancang’s condition is quite frightening.”
"It's nothing," Xie Zhuo said, not particularly moved. "Reading more books is good, so I won't get scammed again."
When he mentioned this, Yang Shulan was very grateful. If Xie Zhuo hadn't pulled Mancang back in time, who knows what might have happened? If he had really been arrested and taken to the police station, she and Mancang's father would have been worried to death.
Xu Yan listened to Yang Shulan's countless expressions of gratitude to Xie Zhuo, smiled, poured her a glass of sugar water, and then went to see Da Bao and Xiao Bao.
Time flies, there are only two days left until the Chinese New Year.
This year was Xu Yan's first time spending the Spring Festival in the countryside. Xie Zhuo bought a lot of food, drinks, clothes, and other necessities that were available.
Da Bao and Xiao Bao were trying on their new cotton-padded clothes and shoes when they saw Xu Yan enter the room. The two of them immediately stood up from the kang (a heated brick bed) and asked, "Does Third Aunt look good?"
"It looks good," Xu Yan said, pinching Da Bao's cheek.
Xie Zhuo thought boys should wear black or navy blue, but Xu Yan bought bright red yarn and spent some time knitting a scarf and a hat for each of the two boys.
The style of the hat is no different from most woolen hats nowadays. The only difference is that she used gray-black and white yarn to design the first letters of Da Bao and Xiao Bao's names in capital letters on the folded part of the hat.
It instantly transformed an ordinary red hat, one that might even be ridiculed by other children, into something stylish and beautiful.
The two kids loved it so much, touching it again and again.
"Third Aunt, can we wear hats and go out to play as soon as it gets light tomorrow?" Da Bao asked.
"Of course," Xu Yan said with a smile, straightening his collar.
"Xie, Jing, Yi," Xiao Bao pointed to the pinyin letters on the hat and read his name out word by word.
Seeing this, Da Bao also took off his hat and began to read his name, "Xie Zhan".
Xu Yan patted their heads and said, "If you like, how about your third aunt unravels your scarves and re-knits them, turning them into hats?"
"No, no," Xiao Bao shook his head, "Third Aunt is too tired."
Xu Yan's heart softened at his words, "Third Aunt isn't tired, how tiring can knitting a scarf be?"
“We like it just the way it is,” Da Bao said, then hugged the hat tightly and looked at it again and again.
In Qingshan Brigade, the New Year celebrations begin on New Year's Eve.
Xu Yan heard the sound of firecrackers outside and thought there was an explosion somewhere. She was suddenly awakened and then Xie Zhuo hugged her and patted her gently on the back.
"Don't be afraid," Xie Zhuo said, his eyes still closed. "It's probably just some early-rising kid from the brigade setting off firecrackers."
Xu Yan then slowly relaxed.
Da Bao and Xiao Bao woke up quite early today. As soon as they opened their eyes, they started playing around in the room. Their laughter and shouts could be clearly heard in Xu Yan's room.
"Crazy," Xu Yan commented with a smile, then poured hot water, washed her face, and combed her hair.
Xie Zhuo was getting dressed when he noticed that Xu Yan had knitted a new sweater for him with some red elements on it. He leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. "Why is mine red too?"
"Isn't it good-looking?" Xu Yan asked back.
Xie Zhuo glanced at the sweater he was wearing.
To be honest, he had never seen this style of sweater before.
Whether in this life or the previous one, few people would have so many unexpected ideas and ingenuity in designing a sweater.
The most common way people knit sweaters is with solid colors, or when one type of yarn runs out, they add other colors to the hem or sleeves. Or they know in advance that they don't have enough yarn, so they weave two colors of yarn together from the beginning to create some alternating stripes.
The one that Xu Yan wove for him was completely different.
The main color is black, except that a few pinyin letters are woven in white thread in the upper part of the front, and at the end of the letters there is a small piglet woven in red thread.
A piece of clothing that is very... describable.
At first, I thought it was a little strange, but the more I watched it, the more I liked it.
Xie Zhuo looked down at the sweater several times, then smiled and leaned in to kiss Xu Yan on the cheek. "It looks good, thank you, baby."
Children are the happiest people during the Chinese New Year.
Da Bao and Xiao Bao put on their new clothes, each wearing a scarf and hat. They each took a lit incense stick from Xie Zhuo and ran outside to set off firecrackers.
Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo were busy preparing the paste for pasting Spring Festival couplets. Basically, Xie Zhuo was the one doing the work, while Xu Yan was just getting in the way.
She didn't hold on properly, and half a bowl of flour poured into a small iron pot on the stove. "Is there too much flour?"
