Chapter 175 I haven't seen you smile much all night

"Nothing?" Xu Yan shook his head.

After a few seconds, she turned her gaze to Xie Zhuo, staring into his eyes, "Do you prefer a daughter or a son?"

Xie Zhuo was taken aback.

Xu Yan looked at him.

"I," Xie Zhuo didn't know how the topic suddenly turned to him, but when Xu Yan asked, he still answered very sincerely, "I like any child, but I can't say for sure. As long as it's your child, I like it whether it's a boy or a girl."

Xu Yan stared at him for a long time, but couldn't figure out anything from Xie Zhuo's eyes.

That's true. Xie Zhuo can say things like he's okay with not having children, so gender isn't that important.

After Xie Zhu finished eating, he cleared the table and washed the dishes. Seeing Xu Yan still sitting there in a daze, he walked over, leaned close to her, and picked her up.

Xu Yan almost cried out in surprise before she could react.

"What are you doing?" Xu Yan pushed him on the shoulder.

“Let’s go have a baby now,” Xie Zhuo said, looking at her. “After the baby is born, I’ll see if I prefer a boy or a girl.”

“…You’re crazy,” Xu Yan scolded him.

Xie Zhuo lowered his head and kissed her lips again, laughing, "Other people's problems don't apply to ours. No matter what, you'll always be my favorite. You have to be my daughter..."

Before he could finish speaking, Xu Yan covered his mouth, saying, "You want to take advantage of everything, don't you?"

“No,” Xie Zhuo’s lips moved in her palm, “I love you.”

Xu Yan: "..."

Xu Yan was genuinely curious about what kind of people Xie Zhuo's parents were, that they could raise a son like Xie Zhuo.

Sometimes, it's no wonder she suspected that Xie Zhuo had also transmigrated into the book.

In this day and age, there are practically no people who can casually utter these three words.

But Xie Zhuo could talk without blushing or panting.

While Xu Yan was a little distracted, Xie Zhuo kissed her palm repeatedly until he carried her into the house and placed her on a chair before letting go.

The liveliness at Song Guangming's house was probably the biggest one this year. Li Aihua chatted with Xu Yan for a long time with a gossipy look on her face.

They even found out how Yan Yuhong's family reacted after they learned about this.

“I was wondering why Yan Yuhong was so arrogant,” Li Aihua said. “Her parents were even more arrogant than her. They pointed at Song Guangming’s nose and cursed him for a long time. Then her brother had someone beat up Song Zufeng.”

"Huh?" Xu Yan was somewhat surprised.

“He’s currently in the same hospital room as Zhang Guiying,” Li Aihua said.

"Then her brother wasn't arrested?" Xu Yan asked.

“No, her brother is very cunning,” Li Aihua said. “He didn’t do it. He paid some thugs from the city to beat her up. Before Song Zufeng could react, the thugs had already run away.”

Xu Yan remained silent, seemingly lost in thought.

Li Aihua sighed and continued, "To be honest, Yan Yuhong is quite pitiful. She's been married for three or four years and had two children, but she couldn't keep either of them. She finally gave birth to this one, and it's a girl."

“Zhang Guiying often gossiped about her in front of others, and it’s true that she wants to have the child.”

“I heard from the aunt across the hall that she was looking around for someone a couple of days ago, trying to exchange her daughter for someone else’s son to raise.”

"Yan Yuhong probably heard it somewhere, and when she got home she started making a scene. She smashed everything she could in the house, but she still couldn't swallow her anger, so she got into a fight with Zhang Guiying."

The matter concerning Song Guangming's family was discussed by the villagers for several days, and when they returned to work, Song Guangming still had a dark expression on his face.

Liang Qian, who was at the educated youth settlement, slacked off while weeding and was immediately assigned to fertilize the fields.

Nowadays, rural people don't use much chemical fertilizer when growing crops; they use organic fertilizer, which is scooped from a bucket with a long-handled ladle and then poured onto the crops in the field.

Liang Qian's face turned green.

She wanted to quit, but when she thought about how last year, because the educated youth group at their settlement didn't work, they didn't get any grain and almost didn't make it through the New Year, she lost heart.

He covered his nose, picked up a ladle, and started fertilizing.

Xie Zhuo is weeding.

He stood up and took a moment to recover when Xu Yan came to bring him water and food.

Seeing that the back of his neck was sunburned red, Xu Yan felt sorry for him and took a wet towel out of the basket, letting him put it on his neck for a while.

Xie Zhuo smiled and said, "It's nothing."

“You’re all sunburned,” Xu Yan frowned. “I’m going to town later, and I’ll get you some sunburn ointment from the commune hospital.”

Xie Zhuo didn't know if the hospital had this kind of ointment, but seeing how concerned Xu Yan was about him, he wanted to hug the person in front of him.

When Song Guangming looked over again, he took the towel off his neck, wiped his hands, and said, "Let's go back and dry in the fields."

After Xu Yan left, Tian Fang glanced at Xie Zhuo again.

After a long while, Tian Fang couldn't hold back any longer. She mustered her courage, took a few quick steps forward, and then squatted down at the same level as Xie Zhuo to start weeding.

She was quite lucky today; the land allocated by Song Guangming happened to be right next to Xie Zhuo's.

However, Xie Zhuo was very fast. Before she could even stay by his side for ten minutes, a large gap had already formed between them.

"Thank you, thank you, Third Brother," Tian Fang called out to Xie Zhuo in a low voice.

Xie Zhuo was also planning to finish the work as soon as possible and then go to the city to buy some meat.

He felt that Xu Yan seemed to have lost some weight recently, and the two kids had grown taller, their faces weren't as round and chubby as before, and they were hard to pinch anymore. He needed to buy some meat to help them get back to health.
