What brings you here?
Xu Yan was genuinely surprised that Xie Zhuo would suddenly come over, and when she asked him a question, there was a hint of laughter in her voice that she herself didn't even realize.
“I finished hoeing over there and came to see you,” Xie Zhuo said.
"I'm here..."
Xu Yan glanced ahead and saw that there was still a lot left to do; she estimated that even if she didn't go back for lunch today, she wouldn't be able to finish hoeing it.
Xie Zhuo, of course, also saw her progress.
She had only hoeed half of a plot of land, and the weeds she had cut down were piled up in small heaps on the side, not even put into sacks.
Xu Yan glanced at Xie Zhuo's expression, then looked at the grass on the ground and asked softly, "Did I do something wrong?"
Once the question was out of her mouth, she felt she was being too cautious, even though Ye Wei next to her was doing the same thing.
"No," Xie Zhuo said, seeing Xu Yan's gaze drift towards Ye Wei. He seemed to understand her thoughts and didn't intend to say anything more, so he shook his head.
"Oh," Xu Yan shook his head, then squatted down to continue weeding.
There's such a big piece of land!
The team leader had already called everyone to rest on the edge of the field. When she arrived, she heard an aunt say that they could rest once at 10:30. It seems that it is already 10:30 now.
She has only hoeed half of the land since 6:30 a.m.
If we don't hurry, we really won't have lunch.
Before she could even squat down, Xie Zhuo grabbed her arm.
Instantly separate.
"Go and rest for a while," Xie Zhuo stopped Xu Yan's actions and immediately withdrew his hand. "I can take care of the rest."
The sun made him squint slightly.
Xu Yan never really wanted Xie Zhuo to help her.
After all, she had never had anyone she could rely on growing up.
She has been living alone since her parents divorced.
Later, I lived with my grandparents for a while, thinking that I would have someone to rely on from then on. But unexpectedly, my grandparents also passed away.
After going around in circles, she was alone again.
A person with no way back, who can only keep moving forward cautiously.
"Go ahead, go drink some water and rest for a while. It's hot, don't get heatstroke."
After Xie Zhuo finished speaking, seeing that Xu Yan was still standing still, he raised his hand and pointed to the burlap sack he had just thrown on the road, "I just picked some wild vegetables and put them there. Go and keep an eye on them for me later, so that no one takes them."
Xu Yan then looked up and glanced at Xie Zhuo.
Xie Zhuo was also looking at her.
The young educated youth didn't know what it was like to work before. Even though he was wearing a straw hat, his face was still flushed from the sun, and his lips were chapped and peeling.
They look rather pitiful.
It's best to avoid letting her get out of bed in the future.
Xie Zhuo thought to himself silently.
"How about I help you?" Xu Yan suggested, still not quite accepting leaving all her work to Xie Zhuo.
It was hot, and not only was her face covered in sweat, but Xie Zhuo's clothes were also soaked.
Xie Zhuo was about to say something when he suddenly glanced outside and his expression turned serious. "If you don't go over there soon, those wild vegetables will really be taken away."
"ah?"
Xu Yan didn't react for a moment.
She thought Xie Zhuo had just told her to watch over the wild vegetables as an excuse to let her rest, but she didn't expect there really were wild vegetables.
She turned her head and looked in the direction Xie Zhuo was pointing.
Sure enough, a person was bending over and picking something up.
Xu Yan didn't even have time to say much to Xie Zhuo before he was swept away like a gust of wind.
These were all dug up by Xie Zhuo with great effort, so we can't let anyone take them away!
When Xu Yan rushed out of the ground, he had only one thought in his mind.
But when she saw that the person bending over and rummaging through the sack of grass next to Xie Zhuo was Liu Mancang, she didn't know what expression to make for a moment.
Liu Mancang wasn't rummaging through anything.
He was trying to bring the opening of the burlap sack full of grass together and then tie it with a short piece of straw rope in his hand.
Just as he straightened up, he suddenly met Xu Yan's gaze, and he was still a little confused.
"Third Sister-in-law?" Liu Mancang looked at Xu Yan.
Xu Yan also looked at him.
After a few seconds of silence, Xu Yan turned and glared at Xie Zhuo in the field.
Xie Zhuo twitched the corner of his mouth, then squatted down and started weeding.
Xu Yan certainly didn't believe that Xie Zhuo couldn't have missed recognizing Liu Mancang as the person on this side.
He did it on purpose!
But to get angry over this would be incredibly ungrateful.
"Third Sister-in-law, why did you suddenly come over?" Liu Mancang kicked the bag aside and then glanced into the field. "Third Brother is in the field."
Xu Yan originally wanted to correct him for calling her "Third Sister-in-law" so casually, but when he heard him mention Xie Zhuo, he paused again.
Let them call me that, it's only a few days until the wedding anyway.
“I know,” Xu Yan said.
This time, Liu Mancang reacted quickly and immediately understood, "Third Brother asked you to come out and rest?"
“Yes,” Xu Yan nodded.
Just as I was about to say that he had tricked me into coming to watch over the wild vegetables, I saw an old woman grab a small burlap sack at her feet while she was picking up grass from her bag on the ground.
Without thinking, Xu Yan stepped onto the sack.
"What are you doing?" The old woman glared at Xu Yan from head to toe.
However, due to his posture and height, he lacked presence.
“I wanted to ask you what you were doing,” Xu Yan bent down and snatched the sack from her hand. “You stole this right under my nose.”
