Chapter 56 Xie Zhuo: Huh?

Who should I bring?

Third Aunt?

Xu Yan was frozen in place by those words.

Xie Zhuo's voice was very pleasant; she noticed it the first day she transmigrated here. It was a bit deep but had the gentle quality typical of someone his age, and his Mandarin was also standard.

But this...

The way he said "Third Aunt" always had a special feel to it.

She looked at Xie Zhuo.

Xie Zhuo was also looking at her.

A few seconds later, this ambiguous eye contact was interrupted by Xie Dabao, who had just arrived.

Although Da Bao and Xiao Bao are not picky eaters, who doesn't like white noodles?

A couple of days ago, they ate dried sweet potatoes and drank porridge for lunch and dinner. A few days before that, Uncle San steamed a pot of steamed buns, some made from a mixture of wheat flour and cornmeal.

Although they are all delicious, they can't compare to noodles at all!

I haven't had any good noodles in ages!

Da Bao came in from the kitchen door, grabbed Xu Yan's hand and walked out, saying as they went, "Third Uncle's cooking is so delicious."

Xie Zhuo raised an eyebrow from behind.

After Xu Yan washed her hands, Da Bao pulled her to sit under the tree. Xie Zhuo had already placed all the food on the table.

To be honest, Xie Zhuo's cooking looked really good. Not only was it not burnt, but the wild vegetables he dug up also looked lush and green, making it very appetizing.

"Try it," Xie Zhuo handed the chopsticks to Xu Yan.

Xu Yan originally wanted to be polite, but she hadn't had a proper meal in two days, and now, smelling Xie Zhuo's cooking, she was practically drooling.

She picked up a piece of egg with her chopsticks.

It smells very good.

You can tell that Xie Zhuo's cooking skills are good, and of course, the most important thing is that he is willing to use a lot of oil.

She had heard her grandmother talk about how people in this era cooked.

It is said that many families would find a chopstick, tie a piece of cloth to it, and then dip the cloth lightly into the oil jar before putting the food into the pan.

Very few people pour oil directly into a pot.

Unless they're the kind of people who don't know how to manage their money.

Xu Yan had only been here a few days and hadn't seen how other people cooked, but Xie Zhuo... just happened to be the kind of person her grandmother said was the worst at managing a household.

"It doesn't taste good?"

Seeing that Xu Yan stopped talking after taking a bite of the egg, Xie Zhuo asked somewhat nervously.

After asking the question, he put a piece into Da Bao's and Xiao Bao's bowls, and then ate a piece himself.

It tastes about the same as usual.

"Delicious," Xu Yan said, smiling at Xie Zhuo. "It's so delicious, I couldn't think of a word to praise you for a while."

Xie Zhuo: "..."

Although the young educated youth didn't say anything to praise him, it seemed like he was being praised.

Xie Zhu lowered his eyes and stuffed a mouthful of noodles into his mouth. After swallowing, he said somewhat awkwardly, "If it tastes good, eat more."

Xu Yan also wanted to eat more, but the original owner's stomach was only so big. She had already tried her best to eat, but in the end, she still left a little bit of noodles.

"I really..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Xu Yan suddenly hiccuped.

Everyone at the table, big and small, looked up at her.

Xu Yan's face immediately turned red.

Xie Zhuo was stunned for a moment, then wanted to laugh, but seeing the young educated youth blushing, he figured if he really laughed, they might never have the chance to eat at the same table again.

He stood up and went to the kitchen to pour a glass of warm water. "If you can't eat, then don't. Don't overeat."

Xu Yan's face was still very red.

By the time she finally emerged from that awkward mood, Xie Zhuo had already eaten three large bowls of noodles.

Xu Yan's attention was instantly diverted.

Wow, you can really eat!

Children are sleepy at noon; they want to sleep after eating.

Da Bao and Xiao Bao gathered the empty plates and bowls together and were about to head to the kitchen when Xu Yan quickly stood up to help, but Xie Zhuo stopped her.

“It’s alright, they can handle these little things,” Xie Zhuo said.

Da Bao and Xiao Bao put the bowls on the kitchen table and went back to their room to sleep.

Suddenly, only two people remained in the large courtyard, with only the sounds of Xie Zhuo eating and a few birds chirping.

Xu Yan looked up and saw a swallow's nest under the eaves, with a swallow perched on it and chirping.

She only came to her senses when Xie Zhuo finished eating and stood up to go to the kitchen.

“You stay seated,” Xie Zhuo said. “It’s hot in the kitchen.”

After saying that, he went into the kitchen, and soon Xu Yan heard him scooping water to wash the dishes.

The old woman who had given Xiaobao Xingzi earlier was still waiting at the door. Her husband had been lying in the house for a while, and seeing that there was still no sign of cooking, he came out wearing a pair of worn-out cloth shoes.

Seeing her squatting by the front door, seemingly looking around, he frowned. "Why aren't you cooking? What are you doing here?"

The old woman was watching intently when she was almost startled by the person who suddenly appeared behind her.

"You damned bastard," the old woman cursed, "Are you a cat? You walk without making a sound."

"Hurry up and cook, you still have to work this afternoon," the man ignored her scolding, frowned and shuffled back in his shoes, "Everyone else's food is ready, and you haven't even started cooking!"

The old woman stared at his retreating figure and cursed a few times, but still got up and went to the kitchen to cook.

Twenty minutes later, Xie Zhuo finished cleaning up and came out of the kitchen. It was quite cool under the pear tree, and with the birds chirping, Xu Yan almost fell asleep.

Hearing the noise, he looked up at Xie Zhuo.

The man was tall and handsome, and standing in this farmhouse courtyard, he seemed like a dream to her.
