Are you alright?
Xie Zhuo only let go of Xu Yan's hand after seeing that Xu Yan had regained his footing.
"It's nothing," Xu Yan shook his head.
Zhao Bin confirmed the return time with them and then drove off to deliver the goods. Xie Zhuo led Xu Yan and the two kids to the department store.
Although Qingping County is not as bustling as big cities, you can still buy all the small items you need for a wedding; it just depends on whether you have the money and the tickets.
Upon entering the department store, I saw several sales clerks standing together, chatting about something. When they saw someone come in, they just lazily lifted their eyelids and then continued chatting.
This was Xu Yan's first time visiting a store with such a vintage feel.
Everything looks strange to me.
Xie Zhuo had already taken out the money and tickets he had prepared and handed them to her.
"Hmm?" Xu Yan looked at him.
“Buy whatever you want,” Xie Zhuo said.
The people chatting over there saw the man who came in wearing patched clothes and assumed he was just wandering around because he couldn't afford anything. But when they saw him pull out a wad of cash, they stopped eating their sunflower seeds and chatting and walked over.
"A young couple getting married?" The saleswoman asked casually, noticing their young age.
Then I saw Da Bao and Xiao Bao, two little rascals who were standing on tiptoe trying to peek inside.
"The child is already so big?"
The saleswoman looked at the two of them again in surprise.
"No, he's my nephew," Xu Yan said, feeling a little embarrassed for some reason. Before Xie Zhuo could object, she quickly explained.
But after explaining, she felt even more uneasy.
What do you mean by her nephew?
They're not married yet.
She wanted to say something more, but the saleswoman had a look on her face that said, "I told you two couldn't have a child this big at your age," and then asked them what they wanted to buy.
Xu Yan wasn't given a chance to explain at all.
Xu Yan could clearly feel people staring at her.
She tried to suppress her slight unease and pointed to the cloth beside her, "How much is the cloth?"
"Cotton fabric is 40 cents a foot," the saleswoman said, then picked out a light blue fabric that would suit Xu Yan and showed it to her.
"You're so pretty, this color is sure to look good on you," the saleswoman said.
Xu Yan examined the cloth carefully and then touched it with his hand.
I must say that although this cotton fabric is a bit expensive, it feels really good and is comfortable to wear.
Seeing that Xu Yan really intended to buy something, the saleswoman brought over another piece of red cloth, "And this one, it's perfect for a wedding."
Getting married is very simple these days.
There were no wedding cars or anything like that in later generations. Basically, all they did was wear a bright red new dress, set up a few tables for a banquet, and invite relatives to come and witness the ceremony. That was considered the completion of the wedding.
Those with better conditions would tie a big red flower to the handlebars of their bicycles, then take their new brides for a ride around the brigade, making a lot of people envious.
Only Song Guangming's family and Sun Guoan's family in Qingshan Brigade had this condition.
Xu Yan compared the blue and red fabrics side by side. The red fabric was stiffer than the light blue one, making it more suitable for making an overcoat.
She glanced at Xie Zhuo.
Xie Zhuo didn't understand what she meant, and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"
"Which one do you think we should buy?" Xu Yan asked, somewhat conflicted.
“I think they’re both fine,” Xie Zhuo said. Although he didn’t understand what Xu Yan meant, he could see that she clearly liked both pieces of fabric.
Since you like them both, why bother choosing?
“I’ll buy them both. One for the wedding, and the other for everyday wear,” he said.
“Votes…” Xu Yan hadn’t seen how many votes Xie Zhuo had given her.
“That’s enough, buy with confidence,” Xie Zhuo said.
The saleswoman initially had some reservations about the tall, patched-up man, but seeing how well he treated his girlfriend, her opinion changed somewhat.
I proactively introduced him to a few pairs of leather shoes and a few pieces of Dacron clothing.
"This material is good, crisp and wrinkle-resistant. Your partner is good-looking, and he would look great wearing a white Dacron shirt like this to your wedding," the saleswoman said.
Xie Zhuo looked at the ready-made clothes and then at Xu Yan.
"Although it's a bit pricey," the saleswoman continued, seeing that he was somewhat tempted, "a woman only gets married once in her life, so it's always a good idea to dress up nicely."
Xie Zhuo was even more tempted.
Xu Yan, standing to the side, almost laughed.
This woman is quite talkative.
She often heard this kind of rhetoric in an advertisement for a certain ring in her previous life: "Customize a ring for the person you love for a lifetime, a marriage, a lifelong promise," and so on.
"It's only eighteen yuan," the saleswoman said.
So what?
If the old women of Qingshan Brigade heard this, their eyes would pop out of their sockets!
Eighteen yuan can buy twenty jin of meat!
"How about," Xie Zhuo looked at Xu Yan, "we buy it?"
Xu Yan couldn't hold back any longer and laughed.
“I’ll buy it,” she nodded.
But when Xie Zhuo heard Xu Yan say to have the saleswoman bring him a women's set and a men's set, he was still taken aback.
“I don’t need it,” Xie Zhuo said. “Buy yourself a few more. I see there are still many colors available. Pick a few more.”
"Ouch!"
Before Xu Yan could speak, the saleswoman next to him said, "You're a good young man, you're really good to your girlfriend!"
She spoke quite loudly, and the other counters in the store heard her and all looked over.
Xu Yan had gotten used to being surrounded by onlookers these past two days, so she didn't pay much attention to those stares and still insisted on taking a piece of clothing that Xie Zhuoneng could wear.
