Chapter 66 Hundred-Year-Old Wild Ginseng

"Third Aunt, you're here!" Da Bao was very happy.

"Third Aunt!" Xiao Bao rushed over and hugged Xu Yan's leg.

Even though they had been shouting all afternoon yesterday, Xu Yan still felt a little awkward when he suddenly heard it, especially in front of Xie Zhuo. He reached out and touched his nose.

But Da Bao and Xiao Bao didn't notice at all.

It circled around Xu Yan several times.

They waited until Xu Yan sat down by the pear tree in the yard before they obediently squeezed next to her.

"Third Aunt, are you here to see my Third Uncle?" Da Bao suddenly asked.

Upon hearing this, Xu Yan glanced at Xie Zhuo, who had already put down his basket to pour her water.

After placing a glass of warm water in front of her, he asked, "Did you go into the mountains so early this morning?"

"Huh?" Xu Yan was startled.

"Your clothes and hair are covered in mud," Xie Zhuo said, reaching out to pluck a blade of grass from Xu Yan's head. His tone was unusually serious. "Go there less often in the future. There are big guys in there."

Xu Yan was thinking, Xie Zhuo immediately realized she had entered the mountains, so could that old woman from earlier have also realized it?

After looking down for a while, I realized that there was only some mud on the knees of my pants.

She raised her hand and patted it, but the mud was still wet and couldn't be cleaned at all.

Hearing Xie Zhuo's words, he finally looked up and asked, "What big guy?"

“Two years ago, someone found traces of wild boars inside,” Xie Zhuo said. “It’s also said that there are wolves. Anyway, you should go in less often in the future; it’s not safe.”

“Oh,” Xu Yan nodded.

They verbally agreed, but what they really thought was quite different.

Because she remembered that besides Han Xiaoyu, someone from the Qingshan Brigade had also dug up ginseng on the back mountain, and the book didn't mention any wild beasts on the mountain.

“Don’t take this lightly,” Xie Zhuo saw through Xu Yan’s perfunctory attitude and frowned slightly. “If you really want to go, just tell me and I’ll go with you. Don’t go alone; it’s too dangerous.”

Xu Yan was somewhat surprised to hear him say that.

After Xie Zhuo finished speaking, he met Xu Yan's gaze, and, not knowing what he was thinking, quickly explained, "It's not that I necessarily want to go with you, it's... it's in the mountains..."

“Okay, next time I go, I’ll take you with me,” Xu Yan interrupted him, her eyes still fixed on him. “It’s not safe in the mountains.”

Xie Zhuo: "..."

Depend on!

The first time he tried to explain, he found it incredibly difficult!

As soon as the two started talking about serious matters, Da Bao and Xiao Bao got bored and ran off.

They were sitting on the threshold of the main room, one on each side, continuing to gnaw on dried sweet potatoes.

Xu Yan glanced at them, then looked towards the gate.

The one-eyed old woman who had spoken to her earlier had already left.

Looking out from the courtyard, there wasn't a single person in sight.

Xu Yan stood up, walked over and bolted the door shut.

"What's wrong?" Xie Zhuo looked at her in confusion.

"Let me show you something," Xu Yan said.

Then, she turned the basket on the ground upside down, emptied all the grass inside, and revealed the cloth she had used to wrap the ginseng.

Although Xie Zhuo didn't know what Xu Yan was up to, he didn't interrupt her.

It wasn't until Xu Yan opened the cloth, revealing what was inside, that he opened his eyes wide in surprise.

"What is this?" Xie Zhuo touched the ginseng with his hand.

“A century-old wild ginseng,” Xu Yan said. “I just dug it up in the mountains.”

Xie Zhuo didn't know what expression to make when looking at her and this wild ginseng.

He had heard rumors in his previous life that someone had dug up a wild ginseng in the mountains and sold it for a lot of money.

At that time, Liu Mancang also insisted on going to the mountains to dig for ginseng. Xie Zhuo tried to persuade him several times, but to no avail.

Unexpectedly, Liu Mancang not only failed to find any wild ginseng, but also had several ribs broken by a wild boar in the mountains. If it weren't for someone else following suit and going up the mountain to dig for ginseng, he would probably have been gored to death on the spot.

At the time, he didn't believe that anyone could actually dig up wild ginseng in the mountains, thinking it was just a rumor.

Xu Yan then shoved the ginseng right in front of him.

"What's wrong?" Xu Yan didn't understand Xie Zhuo's expression. "Is there something wrong with this ginseng?"

"No," Xie Zhuo replied, snapping back to reality.

"This quality must fetch a good price, right?" Xu Yan looked down at the ginseng on the table.

“It should be fine,” Xie Zhu thought of the rumors he had heard in his previous life, looked at the ginseng, then at Xu Yan, and said, “I know someone, how about I take it to him to take a look later?”

"Is it reliable?" Xu Yan asked.

“Well, based on what I know of him,” Xie Zhuo said, then suddenly stopped halfway through. “However…”

"But what?" Xu Yan looked at him.

Xie Zhuo knew that Lao He was rich and that Lao He was a reliable person, but whether in his past life or this life, he had only dealt in electrical appliances and had never done any other business.

I don't know if I can handle something that costs so much.

"Just to be on the safe side, I'll go ask first," Xie Zhuo said, lowering his gaze and rubbing his thumb and forefinger back and forth.

After speaking, Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo went to the kitchen to fetch water, cleaned the ginseng, and then carefully put it away.

Da Bao and Xiao Bao didn't know what the adults were doing. At first, they would stare at their third uncle and aunt while they were talking, but after they finished eating the dried sweet potatoes, they ran to a corner of the yard to play.

Xie Zhu put the basket back on his back before looking at Xu Yan again.

"Shall we go to the city together?" Xie Zhuo asked.

When she met Xu Yan's gaze, she added, "I plan to buy the bicycle today."
