Chapter 77 Sixty-Five Thousand

"Third...Auntie?"

Xie Zhuo paused upon hearing Xu Yan's words, staring at her with a half-smile.

Xie Zhuo changed his expression quickly, but Xu Yan apologized even faster, "Just kidding, just kidding."

Then he quickly ran back to the yard with the two little ones.

Da Bao and Xiao Bao thought Xu Yan was playing with them, so they stopped crying and ran around giggling.

Xie Zhu stared at the backs of the one adult and two children for a long time before slowly turning his gaze away.

Just as I secured the basket to the back of the bicycle, the brigade leader arrived again.

Xie Zhuo sighed.

Song Guangming came over to check on Xie Zhuo after seeing he had bought a bicycle before dinner.

They also encountered Wu Yuzhen on the way.

Wu Yuzhen pulled several children towards him and started crying. He patiently listened to the gist of it and finally realized that Wu Yuzhen was being unreasonable, so he scolded her harshly.

Wu Yuzhen slunk away.

"Not bad, it's still the Phoenix brand."

Song Guangming circled the bicycle a few times, and then became somewhat unhappy upon learning that Xie Zhuo was going to ask for leave from work that afternoon.

“I think you’ve gotten too cocky,” Song Guangming said, frowning.

Xie Zhuo didn't say anything.

“Even if you have the resources to build it, how many years can you build it?” Song Guangming said. “You’ll have a whole family to support in the future. If you don’t work in the fields to earn work points, what about the money? What about the grain? What will you do at the end of the year?”

Seeing that he was having a hard time explaining it, Xie Zhuo poured him a glass of water.

Song Guangming picked up his water glass and took a sip.

She continued, "From now on, you'll have a family and a home, so you can't act like you did before..."

Halfway through his sentence, Song Guangming suddenly paused, his eyes fixed on Xie Zhuo, "You wouldn't have already taken a liking to that young educated youth, Xu, would you?"

“No,” Xie Zhuo said.

"Really not?" Song Guangming didn't believe it.

If there really wasn't anything, would this kid have been so eager to help Xiao Xu, the educated youth, get things that day?

"Really not," Xie Zhuo said helplessly. "Someone like me wouldn't dare to fall for anyone. Besides, I have an engagement for those days."

“That’s true,” Song Guangming said.

After a while, he said again, "This young Xu is indeed a good girl. It's your good fortune that she can marry you. You'd better treat her well in the future."

“You two are getting married in a few days,” Song Guangming said, remembering something. “Does her family not know about this yet?”

Xie Zhuo didn't nod, but gave a very soft "hmm".

“Wait until winter,” Song Guangming glanced at him, “When the fields are less busy in winter, I’ll write you two letters of introduction so you can visit her home.”

Xie Zhuo looked up at him.

"What are you looking at?" Song Guangming frowned again. "Now that you've married the precious daughter of someone's family, shouldn't you go and meet their parents?"

Should!

You should go before you get married!

But now that's not possible. He didn't expect Song Guangming to offer to write them letters of introduction so they could go to City B.

After seeing Song Guangming off, Xie Zhuo rode his bicycle into the city.

Old He was already waiting at the door.

He had just reached the door and hadn't even had a chance to knock when the door was pulled open.

Xie Zhuo's brows twitched slightly.

Old He wasn't lying to him; they really needed this.

"Come, come in quickly," Old He pulled Xie Zhuo into the yard and then bolted the door shut.

Xie Zhuo carried a basket on his back and went into the main room with him. Sitting in the main room was an old man who looked to be seventy or eighty years old. His clothes were unremarkable at first glance, but upon closer inspection, it was clear that they were made of fine materials.

“This is Mr. Zhang,” Lao He said.

"Mr. Zhang," Xie Zhu greeted him, then put the basket on the ground and dug through the mushroom pile with his hands, pulling out a piece of clothing.

He brought the clothes up and placed them on the table.

Then, in front of Lao He and that Mr. Zhang, he opened his clothes layer by layer, revealing the wild ginseng inside.

Mr. Zhang's eyes widened immediately.

"Is this the century-old ginseng?"

“Yes,” Xie Zhuo nodded.

He and Xu Yan were extremely careful and cautious when cleaning off the mud, not even breaking the tips of the twigs.

Mr. Zhang first stood up to look at the ginseng, then picked it up and estimated its weight, his expression becoming increasingly surprised.

Xie Zhuo and Lao He exchanged a glance.

Ten minutes later, Mr. Zhang put down the wild ginseng in his hand and sat back down in his chair.

He took another sip of tea before slowly turning his gaze to Xie Zhuo, who had been sitting silently to the side. After a moment's consideration, he asked, "What price is Brother Xie thinking?"

Xie Zhuo turned to look at him only after he asked about her.

He had seen all the old man's expressions just now, and he had roughly estimated the value of the ginseng based on the eye contact with Old He. He made a mental estimate, but didn't say it out loud.

“I’m an outsider to these things and don’t know much about them,” Xie Zhuo said. “Whatever the old gentleman thinks is appropriate.”

Mr. Zhang didn't speak, stared at him for a while, and suddenly laughed, "That's interesting."

Xie Zhuo raised an eyebrow slightly, without asking him what he meant by "somewhat interesting".

“I originally told Xiao He that it would cost 50,000, and if the item was in good condition, I could add another 5,000,” Mr. Zhang said. “Now that I’ve seen the item, it is indeed a good item. How about this, I’ll add another 15,000, making it 65,000.”

Sixty-five thousand.

Xie Zhuo was inwardly turbulent, but he was very good at putting on a brave face.

Very calm.

There wasn't even a hint of surprise in their eyes.

Mr. Zhang looked at him a few more times with some surprise, and then said again, "That's interesting."
