Chapter 95 Something Happened

“Yes,” Xu Yan nodded.

Then, she found a medium-sized porcelain basin in the cupboard where the bowls were kept. Just as she was about to ladle out the soup, Xie Zhuo took the spoon from her.

"I'll do it," Xie Zhuo ladled the soup into a bowl, then deftly poured water and washed the pot.

Xu Yan stood to the side for a long time, unable to get a word in edgewise.

When Xie Zhuo went out carrying a basket on his back and pushing his bicycle, Wang Cuilan and Zhao Daman had already left.

He didn't pay much attention and rode his bicycle directly into the city.

He arrived at the three-kilometer distance in less than twenty minutes, but a small incident occurred when he went to find Lao He.

A man took a liking to the mushrooms in his basket and wanted to buy some. He said he had already promised them to someone else, but the man insisted that he could pay more and ask if he could sell the mushrooms to him first.

He also said that his mother had been craving mushrooms for days and asked if he could kindly sell her some.

Hearing him say that, Xie Zhuo no longer refused forcefully.

After all, he wasn't really selling these mushrooms to Lao He; he would just carry them over and then carry them back when he left.

But let's forget about selling it.

He simply scooped up a handful of the top layer of mushrooms for the man without charging him. When the man insisted on paying, he waved his hand and said, "No need, it's not enough to weigh. I've already told them about the others, so this is all I can give you."

After saying that, he left without looking back.

In detail, this matter is nothing serious, but as Xie Zhuo walked towards Lao He, he suddenly felt that something was wrong.

I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong, but I just feel like I can't go to Lao He's place again today.

Thinking this, he glanced back at what was behind him, but it was quiet and there was nothing there.

Xie Zhuo wandered around the alleyway for a while, and when he came out, he went directly to the bookstore where Xu Yan had bought the book.

There were very few bookstores in the whole country at that time, but this small county town had one. It was mainly because someone from the county town went to B city to become an official. Later, he probably wanted to do something for his hometown, so he opened this bookstore.

Xie Zhuo wasn't entirely clear on the specifics either.

Why are you here?

Xie Weifu was sleeping in his recliner when he heard footsteps. He opened his eyes and saw Xie Zhuo.

"I came to see you," Xie Zhuo said, finding a chair to sit down and then saying, "I got married yesterday."

Xie Weifu stared at him for a long time without saying a word, and finally slowly nodded.

The sun was blazing, and there were very few people on the street. The few figures that occasionally moved about were either going to the street corner to buy popsicles or had something they had to do and had to come out. They basically ran into the sun and then ran away again.

There was only one person...

The guy who just bought mushrooms from him was actually loitering around on the street corner under the scorching sun.

He would glance over here every now and then.

Xie Zhuo frowned.

He secretly wondered if there was some problem with Lao He.

This never happened in his previous life. Could it be that he was reborn, causing a butterfly effect that led to the accident?

Xie Zhuo kept an eye on that person's movements out of the corner of his eye.

“If Yaozu were still alive,” Xie Weifu suddenly said, “his child would probably be two or three years old by now.”

Xie Zhuo snapped out of his reverie, "That's not necessarily true."

He looked up and saw the old man staring at him.

“Staring at me won’t do any good,” Xie Zhuo said. “With his bookish nature, he probably thinks that getting married is less important than reading books.”

Xie Weifu fell silent.

After a while, he laughed.

Indeed, if his grandfather were still alive, he probably wouldn't be married by now; he simply loved reading too much.

This is also why he only talks about his son with Xie Zhuo. Unlike others, Xie Zhuo wouldn't say with a mix of regret and sympathy after hearing his words, "Yes, it's a pity. Try to think more positively."

Only Xie Zhuo spoke so casually, giving him the illusion that his son was still alive.

"Your wife," Xie Weifu thought for a moment, then brought up the matter of Xu Yan coming to buy books earlier, "the books she bought..."

“She’s just at home with nothing to do, so she’s just browsing around,” Xie Zhuo said. “After all, she can’t buy other books.”

Xie Weifu glanced at him.

Finally, as if he had thought of something, he stood up from the recliner and waved to Xie Zhuo, "Come with me."

Although Xie Zhuo was a little confused, he still followed.

When they came out again, the mushrooms in the basket had all been replaced with books, all kinds of books. If Xie Zhuo hadn't been strong, he probably wouldn't have been able to carry them.

“Let her look at these more,” Xie Weifu said. “She should look at high school textbooks less, otherwise she’ll be dreaming about the college entrance exam every day, which could easily lead to trouble.”

Xie Zhuo wasn't sure if Xu Yan was in trouble, but he felt that Lao He was definitely in trouble.

He hadn't ridden his bicycle far from the bookstore when he saw the person who had been standing on the street corner enter the bookstore and talk to Lao Xie.

It's obvious they went there to inquire about him.

Xie Zhuo's expression turned cold.

I pedaled the bicycle very fast, and when I got home, I realized it had only taken ten minutes.

When Xu Yan saw him return with a basket of books, she was somewhat surprised. Just as she was about to ask him something, she noticed that Xie Zhuo's expression was not good.

Xu Yan turned around and bolted the door.

Then he helped Xie Zhuo take the basket off his back and lowered his voice a little, "What happened?"

“Something might have happened to Lao He,” Xie Zhuo said, taking all the books out of his basket and revealing a watch box inside. “The things weren’t delivered.”

Xu Yan's expression also became somewhat tense.
