Chen Lihua also felt a little awkward. She could say those things in front of her own daughter, but she really couldn't say them in front of Xie Zhuo.
She coughed lightly after Xu Yan, pretending she hadn't said anything, picked up the mung bean soup Xu Yan had served, and drank it all in one gulp.
Xie Zhuo: "..."
Actually, Xie Zhuo didn't hear anything he shouldn't have. Basically, Xu Yan saw him as soon as he reached the kitchen door.
but……
Judging from Xu Yan's and his mother-in-law's expressions, they were probably talking about his business just now.
He didn't ask any more questions, went inside to get the matches, and then walked out.
"Hey," Chen Lihua looked warily at his hand holding the matches and followed him out, "What are you doing with those matches?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Xu Cangsong with a cigarette in his mouth, waiting for Xie Zhuo to come over and light it.
"I knew you couldn't quit," Chen Lihua's voice reached Xu Cangsong before Xie Zhuo could, her tone clearly angry. "I don't let you smoke at home, but you come here to smoke!"
Chen Lihua strode over and snatched the cigarette from Xu Cangsong's mouth.
"What did the doctor say? You can't have a shot right now, why won't you listen!"
Xu Cangsong gets flushed easily when he drinks, so he didn't say much at this moment and just sighed.
Then, when Xie Zhuo arrived late with a match in hand, she sighed again, somewhat disappointed, "Didn't I tell you to sneak in quietly?"
“I didn’t say anything,” Xie Zhuo said.
"You..." Xu Cangsong didn't know what to say.
“He’s such a big guy,” Chen Lihua reached into Xu Cangsong’s pockets and rummaged around for a few moments, then pulled out half a pack of cigarettes from his pants pocket and turned to walk towards the kitchen.
As she passed Xie Zhuo, she reached out her hand to him, and Xie Zhuo obediently handed over the matches.
“You have to be blind to see,” Chen Lihua added the second half of the sentence.
Xu Cangsong couldn't smoke, and he couldn't drink too much alcohol, so he stopped drinking after having a few small cups with Xie Zhuo.
After strolling around the yard a few times, the elderly couple said they wanted to go to the former educated youth settlement.
They wouldn't even let Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo go with them.
“That won’t do,” Xu Yan frowned and disagreed.
“Why not?” Chen Lihua retorted. “Are you afraid that your father and I will be bullied by Han Xiaoyu?”
“Don’t even mention him,” Xu Cangsong continued, “Even if the entire educated youth settlement attacked together, they wouldn’t be a match for your mother and me!”
As he spoke, he waved his arms in the air twice.
Xu Yan: "..."
In the end, Xu Yan and Xie Zhuo still went along, fearing that her parents would really beat up the people at the educated youth settlement.
Xie Zhuo followed beside her without saying much, until they were almost at the gate of the educated youth settlement, when he turned his head to glance at Xu Yan.
Xu Yan was somewhat confused.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"If Mom and Dad really lay a hand on Han Xiaoyu," Xie Zhuo lowered his gaze, "would you stop them?"
“Definitely,” Xu Yan said.
After saying that, she waited for a long time, but Xie Zhuo didn't say anything more. She looked up at Xie Zhuo's face.
Xie Zhuo's face was expressionless, and it was unclear what he was thinking. However, Xu Yan still keenly noticed a small flaw: Xie Zhuo's lips were tightly pursed, clearly indicating that he was unhappy.
Why?
Because she wouldn't let her parents lay a hand on Han Xiaoyu?
"Sigh," Xu Yan thought of this and suddenly reached out and tugged at Xie Zhuo's sleeve, lowering her voice, "Are you angry?"
Xie Zhuo glanced at her and shook his head. "I wouldn't say I'm angry."
Xie Zhuo didn't know what to call his current emotions.
When he heard that Xu Yan and Han Xiaoyu were engaged, he suddenly felt a strange feeling. It wasn't that he was angry because Xu Yan hadn't told him, but rather an indescribable unease.
There was also some relief.
But to say that these are the only two emotions is not entirely true; there are also some exaggerated feelings of grievance and disappointment...
He was so overwhelmed that he almost wanted to sigh.
I hadn't drunk much alcohol, but when I saw the gate of the educated youth settlement, that little bit of alcohol started to hit me a bit.
He knew that Xu Yan's parents would never lay a hand on Han Xiaoyu. If they did, he would stop them. If things really escalated, Xu Yan would never have a peaceful two years in the countryside.
There was even more gossip behind their backs.
But when he asked Xu Yan, that wasn't the answer he wanted to hear.
I want to hear her say it, so I won't stop her...
"If it's not really anger, then what is it?" Xu Yan clicked his tongue lightly. "Half-angry?"
Xie Zhuo didn't say anything.
“Hey,” Xu Yan tugged at Xie Zhuo’s sleeve again, “I have a little suggestion that’s not quite right yet. Would you like to listen to it and give me some feedback?”
"What?" Xie Zhuo moved his lips.
"Lower your head a little," Xu Yan said in a low voice. As Xie Zhuo cooperated by tilting her head, she said, "Let's find a dark and windy night to lure Han Xiaoyu out so that Mom and Dad can beat him up."
Xie Zhuo turned to look at Xu Yan.
Xu Yan also looked at him.
The two stared at each other for a few seconds before Xie Zhuo spoke again, "Are you serious?"
"Hmm," Xu Yan nodded, returning to her normal volume.
As Chen Lihua and Xu Cangsong turned to look at them, Xie Zhuo raised his hand and pushed his face away a little. "What do you think?"
Xie Zhuo seemed to be seriously considering something, or perhaps thinking about something else, before finally asking after a long pause, "Why do you want to do this?"
Why?
Of course, it's because of the original owner.
Xu Yan would never reveal to anyone that he had suddenly transmigrated into the book, replaced the deceased original owner, and continued to live his life.
