Zhou Xiangqun was very nervous throughout the journey.
His marriage application has been approved. Once they get their marriage certificate, their marriage is more than half done. All that's left is to choose an auspicious date and hold the wedding banquet.
The eldest brother, Zhou Yun, strongly opposed the marriage.
He said, "If it were an ordinary family, they would just make do and get by, but you are different. Your family background is what it is. You should at least choose a daughter from a prominent family. If all else fails, you could choose a college student. Why are you being so hasty?"
But Zhou Xiangqun's attitude was firm.
He had his reasons for marrying a woman from the Jiang family.
From a very young age, he had the same recurring dream in which he married the adopted daughter of the Jiang family. He couldn't see her face clearly, but there was only one striking description: she was of average appearance, average personality, average family background, and even average manners and upbringing.
...None of them are presentable.
He was unwilling to accept it.
The couple argued frequently after getting married.
His wife was strong-willed and interfered with his career in every way. She always wanted to use the Zhou family's influence to promote her own brother and caused all sorts of crazy trouble.
He disagreed, so she went to his workplace and made a scene.
Time and time again, he drove his parents to their deaths from anger.
That wasn't enough. After giving birth to a daughter, she became paranoid and abused the nanny he hired because she was beautiful...
He rarely went home after that.
When he received the message again, his wife was standing on the roof of the building with their child in her arms, shouting, "Zhou Xiangqun, I am your wife, I am the only one, no one can take me away from you, for all eternity, you will never escape my grasp."
She jumped off the roof.
Blood stained the ground.
It stained his dreams red.
He was restless and trembling with fear.
So, outside the driving test hall, he spotted a stunningly beautiful girl in the crowd, and the vague idea in his mind instantly became clear.
He wants to marry her.
It's so beautiful.
She's definitely not the adopted daughter of the Jiang family from his dreams!
Fate was completely rewritten.
He didn't want any unexpected events to happen; he just wanted to get the marriage certificate smoothly.
Xu Manzhi ate the pear without a care in the world.
Early in the morning, the Jiang family, suppressing their nausea, collected all the snakes that had been drying and packed them into snakeskin bags, saying they would return them to her after the wedding.
She emphasized it several times, and Jiang Mingda swore an oath before she was finally relieved.
In the end, she decided to eat all the pears she had.
As soon as she stepped out of the apartment building, she saw the tip of a military green shoe around the corner.
She sniffed it.
Well, he's here.
Xu Manzhi smiled and leaned close to Jiang Pengyue's ear, whispering something in her ear.
Jiang Pengyue froze completely.
Stern and imposing!
Why did he come at this crucial moment?
What if he recognizes Xu Manzhi? Wouldn't that give us away?
She cried out in a panic, "You, you have to think of something..."
Xu Manzhi glanced at the car parked in front of the Jiang family's house and laughed, "What's the rush? You go ahead with them, I'll sneak over on my bicycle in a bit."
"But--"
Jiang Pengyue was worried that Zhou Xiangqun would not agree.
"Enough with the fuss, I'll handle it," Xu Manzhi said, displeased.
She walked up to Zhou Xiangqun, giving him a cute and gentle smile, and said emphatically, "Xiangqun, you and your sister go first. I ate too many pears and need to use the restroom. I'll catch up with them on my bike in a bit, okay?"
Zhou Xiangqun could hardly stand her sweet, coquettish voice.
He nodded repeatedly.
"Then hurry up, or I'll wait for you."
"No, I'll get nervous. You don't want anything to go wrong halfway through, right?"
"Um."
Zhou Xiangqun was easily swayed by her.
She's already made her point clear.
He listened.
Jiang Mingda drove, with his family in the car.
Zhou Xiangqun and Zhou Yun rode in one car.
The car started quickly and left the staff building.
Xu Manzhi grabbed the bicycle, jumped on, and put a few pears in the net bag. She rode straight into the alley, ringing the bell as she went.
Bathed in the breeze, smelling the fresh fragrance in the air.
She slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a steady stop. As she looked up, she was met with a pair of deep, dark eyes.
The alley was a dead end.
The tall figure stood frozen in place, and upon seeing Xu Manzhi's smiling face, his throat went dry and his fingers clenched into fists.
“I heard someone is getting married…” he said dryly.
He saw everything.
The light in Zhou Xiangqun's eyes, his earnest expectation, and his deep affection were almost overflowing from his face and rushing into his heart, making his heart ache.
He didn't understand what was going on.
A feeling I've never experienced before.
He doesn't understand.
Xu Manzhi smiled, took a pear from the net bag, tossed it into his arms, and said with a grin, "Who told you not to come and propose marriage?"
Otherwise, Zhou Xiangqun wouldn't be the one enjoying such success.
“But I’m in charge of Jiang Jiuhe’s case…” the man said quietly.
Once he goes to the Jiang family to propose marriage, Jiang Mingda and Gu Meiyun will inevitably use this matter to pressure him, hindering fairness, and he may easily make mistakes.
She certainly wouldn't want to marry a man whose very soul reeks of decay.
Xu Manzhi chuckled.
She beckoned to him with her finger and said, "Come here, I'll tell you the whole story so you won't overthink things."
She can provide the sense of security one needs.
Yan Lin hurriedly stepped forward.
Before he could react, Xu Manzhi suddenly leaned close to his ear and whispered something, her breath tickling his ear with each breath.
His cheeks turned bright red.
After a long pause, once he understood, he frowned and said, "Isn't that too cruel to the Zhou family?"
