Chapter 13 I'm not dead yet, and you're already eyeing my man?

Temporary hospital site.

The Gu family members all stayed by the bedside, not daring to blink for a moment.

"Fortunately, we were evacuated from a small fishing village." These were the words of Tang Qiuzhu.

Hearing his wife's words, Old Master Gu's eyes reddened, "Thanks to Jingxue, it's just..."

Listening to the old man's words and looking at his son who was still unconscious, Gu Xinguo couldn't imagine how that thin and weak woman in his memory had managed to do it.

He calmly saved so many villagers.

Tang Qiuzhu wiped away her tears and listened to what her father-in-law and husband said.

She dared not think whether her son would have survived if Jiang Jingxue hadn't been there.

What would she do if her son really drowned in the tsunami?

"Cough cough..."

On the makeshift cot, the man coughed slightly, opened his eyes, and looked somewhat confused.

"woke up!"

Tang Qiuzhu wept with joy, forgetting her guilt towards Jiang Jingxue. She wanted to check on her son, but was afraid of hurting him, and didn't know where to put her hands.

Jiang Jingxue is not here.

Gu Pingwei immediately got out of bed, but the movement aggravated his wound.

He was in so much pain that he was trembling all over.

"Lie down properly, you can't move around too much because of your injury."

Old Master Gu's authoritative voice rang out.

Where is Jiang Jingxue?

Looking coldly at his family members, Gu Pingwei uttered a sentence after a long while.

"she……"

The Gu family members lowered their heads and remained silent; the air was deathly still.

Where are they?

"The child fell off a cliff and died."

Old Master Gu's words broke through Gu Pingwei's defenses.

His internal organs suddenly began to ache.

His lungs felt like they were being squeezed, and his heart was filled with a surge of emotions that made it hard for him to breathe.

In the end, only one sentence remained: hysteria.

"impossible!!!"

He clutched his heart and struggled to get out of bed again; his wound reopened, and the bandages were stained red.

"I need to see her alive or dead. I'm going to find her."

Tang Qiuzhu felt sorry for her son and wanted to persuade him.

But with the old man still there, she couldn't speak first.

In the end, it was the old man who stepped in. "Rest and recover properly. I'll send someone to look for Jingxue. Your life was saved by your wife after a lot of effort, so protect her well."

Gu Pingwei paused for a moment, then finally relaxed and lay down.

He sighed almost imperceptibly.

In the makeshift ward, wounded soldiers were brought in from time to time. The three members of the Gu family could not stay too long. After giving Gu Pingwei a few instructions, Zhao Heng pushed the trolley in.

The Gu family members went out.

"Major, relax. Your body is really suffering from this."

Zhao Heng made a complaint and then bent down to treat his wound.

Gu Pingwei was in excruciating pain.

With his back pressed against the cold iron bed behind him, he let out a long breath.

When the bandages were removed, blood was everywhere.

Zhao Heng glanced at the man, but swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue.

I used gauze to stop the bleeding.

"alright."

After treating his wound, Zhao Heng sat down beside him and said, "You're lucky to be alive. If you keep ignoring medical advice, even the King of Heaven can't help you."

"I need to get out; you cover for me."

"..."

Upon hearing this, Zhao Heng subconsciously looked up, and Gu Pingwei's eyes were firm.

"I have to get out of here, and only you can help me."

He couldn't rest easy lying there, as Jiang Jingxue's whereabouts were still unknown.

Gu Pingwei looked up at Zhao Heng again, his face darkening with a threatening expression.

"I can't help you."

Zhao Heng sighed and patted him on the shoulder: "Brother, don't worry, we've already sent people to look for him."

Unable to get out, Gu Pingwei felt as if insects were gnawing at his heart.

I feel terrible.

I reached into my pocket, only to find it empty.

He reached into the drawer, grabbed a cigarette case, put a cigarette in his mouth, and lit it.

"Are you out of your mind, still smoking?"

Zhao Heng turned his head and saw this action, then took the cigarette off with his fingertips and extinguished it.

Gu Pingwei reached out again, and the iron cigarette case was snatched away.

"If anything else happens to you, I'll be punished."

I can't smoke anymore.

Gu Pingwei didn't ask for another cigarette. He took a piece of candy, put it in his mouth, and chewed it without making a sound.

"Brother Pingwei!"

In the quiet, makeshift hospital room, a woman's voice could be heard.

"You're injured."

Yue Keqi appeared in the ward carrying an aluminum lunchbox, her eyes red.

When Zhao Heng saw her like this, his eyes widened slightly, and he looked somewhat embarrassed.

She gestured to Gu Pingwei with her eyes, indicating that she would go out first, but Gu Pingwei refused.

He still has a sense of shame when a man and a woman are alone together.

"Alright, you guys chat, just pretend I don't exist."

Zhao Heng spread his hands, becoming invisible.

The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Gu Pingwei just sat there leaning against the headboard, without saying a word.

Yue Keqi wasn't embarrassed. She opened the lunchbox and showed him the winter melon and pork rib soup inside. She sat down next to him with the soup, intending to feed him.

Gu Pingwei pushed away his bandaged hand, saying, "I don't need it. Give it to someone else."

"Brother Pingwei!"

Yue Keqi got angry and pouted.

She picked up the spoon again, intending to continue feeding him: "You're injured now, so you need to replenish your nutrition. I specially cooked these ribs; try them, and drinking more will help you recover sooner."

Gu Pingwei glanced at her indifferently, but still didn't respond.

"Zhao Heng, you drank it."

When Zhao Heng met the indifferent gaze of the man on the bed, his heart tightened.

Don't waste their good intentions.

Seeing that Zhao Heng didn't speak, Gu Pingwei continued, "Then why aren't you drinking?"
