Chapter 41: Straight A's Awakening

Chapter 41: Straight A's Awakening

Yu Nianqing turned to look at the treatment chamber, but her view was blocked by a white sheet, and she couldn't see anything.

"Then hurry up and get it fixed." He led the repairman to the window.

Hearing the footsteps, Hengxing felt awkward and didn't know what to do, so she closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep for the time being.

The maintenance worker looked at the Alpha sleeping soundly with its eyes closed in the treatment chamber. "Isn't it asleep?"

Yu Nianqing: "You should still check her out. She might have fallen asleep on her own. Thank you for your help."

His voice was calm, and Hengxing couldn't discern his emotions.

The repairman took a strip-shaped detector out of his toolbox, squatted down next to the treatment chamber, opened the exhaust port at the rear, and inserted the detector.

“The anesthetic gas concentration in the treatment chamber is normal.” He stood up and put the cover back on. “That might be due to the patient’s condition. If she wakes up later, I suggest pressing the help button inside the treatment chamber to find the on-duty doctor.”

Yu Nianqing followed him to the door and saw him off, saying, "Thank you for your help."

"It's nothing, it's just my job." The repairman thought he was being too polite.

Yu Nianqing suddenly called out to him, "By the way, sir, may I ask you a question?"

Repairman: "Huh? You mean?"

Yu Nianqing: "Isn't this a rather urgent situation? Will it affect the normal operation of the hospital?"

Repairman: "There is an impact, but not much. Some people have taken leave to go back and avoid the situation. People like us who would starve if we didn't work will definitely stick to our jobs."

"There's a notice from above saying that employees who take extended leave will be dismissed. Don't worry, it'll be fine."

Yu Nianqing: "Okay, thank you."

He closed the ward door and walked back to the window to sit down.

He didn't say anything, he just sat there looking at the terminal.

The ward returned to the tranquility it had been half an hour earlier, but Hengxing's heart was far from at peace; he felt as if something was stuck halfway down and wouldn't come down.

She slowly opened her eyes, keeping her arm with the transparent tube inserted still, and moved her body to a position near the window, looking up at the man sitting by the window through the glass of the treatment chamber.

Her voice was a little hoarse. "Good morning, Mr. Yu."

Hearing her voice, Yu Nianqing looked up at her and asked with a smile, "Captain Heng, are you awake?"

He looked much the same as usual, with a smile in his eyes, as if he wasn't angry. But when Hengxing thought about it carefully, she couldn't remember what he looked like when he was angry.

“You know I’m not asleep,” she replied, pressing her face against the glass and staring intently at him.

Yu Nianqing sighed and put down the terminal. "Captain Heng, you brought this up yourself."

Heng Xing hesitated, "My matter is very complicated and involves many aspects."

She didn't want to talk about it.

Yu Nianqing knew perfectly well what was going on.

When Lin He mentioned that Heng Xing's real age was nearly thirty, he hesitated for a moment before believing her. She then revealed that her age and life experiences didn't quite match, creating a strong sense of inconsistency.

Judging from her behavior at this moment, it was obvious that Lin He was telling the truth.

Hengxing was still hesitating.

"Everyone has secrets they don't want to talk about, and I don't want to pursue the things you don't want to talk about."

Yu Nianqing pulled up a small stool and sat down next to her, placing her hand on the glass of the treatment chamber as if she were stroking her face from a distance.

Suddenly feeling a bit tired, she thought, if she didn't want to talk about it, that was fine; forcing her to continue would only result in both of them being hurt.

“I don’t care,” he added softly.

After speaking, he observed Heng Xing's expression and found that she was clearly still upset and immersed in the topic they had just discussed. He sighed again, "Captain Heng, what exactly are you struggling with?"

"nothing."

Hengxing rolled over, changing from lying on her side to lying flat, and the hard, rigid mechanical structure inside the treatment chamber came back into her view.

I feel more comfortable if I don't look into Yu Nianqing's eyes.

His eyes conveyed so much emotion that they were affecting her thoughts.

Silence filled the air.

Yu Nianqing started a conversation: "Captain Heng, have you noticed anything different about the sky today?"

Hengxing: "You closed the window."

Just now.

Yu Nianqing: "...Ah, I forgot."

"Then I'll just get straight to the point and not keep you in suspense any longer. This afternoon, the planetary protective shield of Planet Yula was activated."

The planet's protective shield won't be opened casually.

Hengxing immediately turned to look at him, "How could this happen? What happened?"

Yu Nianqing: "The insectoid beasts on planet C03 have overflowed."

Hengxing: "C03?"

She had seen a map of the planet Yula and had some impression of it.

Yu Nianqing: "Yes, it's near Yula Star."

He continued, "Someone filmed a starship exploding near C03, and they say Siyun was on it."

He quickly saved the video and is now showing it to her again.

Hengxing: "So, they mean Siyun is dead?"

Yu Nianqing: "Mm."

“Yula Star and C03 are too close, which makes us look very dangerous, so I just bought a villa with a basement on installment.”

Heng Xing: "A villa?!"

She hadn't even gotten over the topic of Si Yun's death when she suddenly heard that Yu Nianqing had bought a villa, and her voice was so shocked that it became distorted.

Yu Nianqing: "Okay, after you finish your treatment, or when the Zerg invade Yula Star, we'll go hide in the basement."

Heng Xing: "Wait until I finish treating him?"

Yu Nianqing: "Okay, let's go together."

...

The ward fell silent again. No one spoke. Yu Nianqing searched the StarNet, keeping a close eye on the latest news from the Empire.

Hengxing stared blankly at the indicator lights in the treatment chamber.

"What are you struggling with?" She remembered the question Yu Nianqing had just asked her.

What exactly is she struggling with?

She herself didn't know.

This is not the first time she has lied to others, nor is it the first time her lies have been exposed.

Hengxing never considered herself a sincere person. In the past, she had fabricated many stories to make listeners feel sorry for her in order to sell goods. She had also mastered the tricks of deceiving customers that the shipyard owner and his employees had taught her.

Thick skin is something you develop through experience.

When her lies were exposed, she would nonchalantly say that she was just joking, and then add a few witty remarks with a smile, which usually prevented the other person from getting too angry.

But when Lin He revealed her real age, her first reaction wasn't to come up with a new excuse, but to worry about what Mr. Yu would think of her.

Will he be sad?

Would you get angry and confront yourself directly?

What should I do if he gets angry? Maybe I should just be honest and tell him everything.

Her usually quick-witted mind went completely blank; she was stuck for a long time and couldn't think of anything.

But as it turned out, he wasn't angry or questioning; instead, he was as gentle as ever, taking a step back to let the matter rest.

Even though the result had been achieved, and she should have been able to breathe a sigh of relief, why did her chest feel as if it were stuffed with large clumps of dark red cotton wool?

The cotton wool, soaked in her blood, blocked her breathing.

That's strange.

Hengxing decided to start from the beginning, reviewing the events from when Lin He entered the room to find the cause.

First, she came in and invited Mr. Yu to a concert.

No, why am I so angry when I hear this?

Hengxing always considered herself a friend of Yu Nianqing, but she used to consider her colleagues at the repair shop as friends as well.

She wasn't like that back then.

When someone asks them out on a date, she usually joins in the fun with the others, encouraging them to treat them to dinner.

I'm a little jealous.

Although she doesn't understand quiet classical music, she still wants to go to a concert with Mr. Yu.

so,

The conclusion is that she wants to go to a concert?

no.

The point wasn't the concert; how could she possibly enjoy listening to music that sounded like a lullaby?

A seed, by chance, fell into the soil and sprouted, and is now trying its best to push through the thick layer of soil and grow upwards.

She wanted to go with Mr. Yu.

Wherever they go, the important thing is that it's just the two of them, and there shouldn't be anyone else.

This is her 29th year.

Well, objectively speaking, it's an emotion I haven't felt in 19 years.

Therefore, she didn't know what this emotion represented.

"Mr. Yu, could you hand me my terminal?" She knocked on the glass, deciding to ask someone online.

Yu Nianqing looked at the tightly sealed treatment chamber, "...How do I give it to them?"

"Or, I can find something for you to see."

Hengxing: "No!"

"I have a button to open the lid, but opening the lid means forcibly pausing the treatment process. As long as I quickly press the open button, then you quickly give me the terminal, and then I quickly press the restart button next to it, that's all."

The three "quickly"s gave Yu Nianqing a headache.

He said, "No, let's ask the doctor first, and we'll talk about it after the doctor agrees."

Heng Xing shrank a few centimeters closer to him. "Please, Mr. Yu, give me the terminal. I have a very serious problem that needs to be solved."

He would usually comply with whatever Hengxing said, but now that his principles were being touched.

Yu Nianqing insisted, "No, let's ask the doctor first."

He pressed the doctor's help button, but it was during break time and only a virtual doctor was available.

The virtual doctor couldn't answer Hengxing's tricky request.

"Let's wait a bit longer, Captain Heng. We'll talk about it after the doctors finish their lunch and come to work this afternoon." Yu Nianqing took a few steps back towards the treatment bay.

Heng Xing couldn't help but laugh. "I can't just rush in and pull the terminal out of your spatial button, can I?"

"Aren't you curious? Give me the terminal, and I'll tell you everything you want to know." She used her ultimate weapon; if this didn't work, there was really nothing else she could do.

"Really?" Yu Nianqing hesitated. "Captain Heng, I'm worried you're making up a new one to fool me."

Hengxing looked at him and said, "I swear, I'm not lying to you."

This offer was so tempting that Yu Nianqing shamefully became tempted.

Heng Xing could see that he was hesitating. "I won't lie to you, I'll tell you everything you want to know."

"Let's wait for the doctor's approval."

Although he really wanted to know, matters of principle were matters of principle, and he was worried that something might happen to her.

"All right."

Hengxing lay in the treatment chamber like a dead fish.

"Captain Heng, safety is no small matter," Yu Nianqing said earnestly.

The female Alpha in the treatment pod turned her head away in a huff, refusing to look at him.

Yu Nianqing smiled and her eyes crinkled slightly. She wasn't angry; on the contrary, she found the girl's reaction childish and cute.

Hengxing didn't get his terminal until after 2 p.m.

Why do you want to spend a lot of time alone with someone?

The top-rated comment

[If it's someone of the opposite sex, you probably like them.]

Why do I feel so sad when I see someone being sad?

The most popular comment.

[Maybe it's because you like him, you have feelings for him, and you don't want to see him sad.]

Does she like him?

Heng Xing looked at Yu Nianqing, who was standing by the window.

He had just woken up from his afternoon nap and was making his bed, holding a sheet in his hand.

His long eyelashes blocked the light, casting a shadow on his eyes and making his features appear even more deep and beautiful. His lips were slightly parted, and his smooth, silky black hair was tucked behind his ears, giving him an air of noble elegance. A slight red mark near his jaw softened his aloofness and added a touch of genuine cuteness.

Some people think that Yu Nianqing's eyes are full of seductive charm, but Hengxing only sees a tenderness that could drown her.

A cool breeze blew open the window a crack, lifting the stray hairs by the woman's ear and scattering the cotton wool that had been lodged in her chest.

Hengxing figured it out.

Indeed, she liked him.

I don't know when it started.

But she didn't understand back then.

I naively thought it was just a friendship.
