6. Smallville: The Next Generation

A bit weird.
During his years in Smallville, Clark Kent had never heard of any tourism projects being developed there.
As the calendar turns page after page, people in Smallville always talk about the same few topics all year round: crop harvests, gossip about acquaintances, and new things happening in the city. Apart from the supernatural events that happen to the Kent children from time to time, Smallville is like a calm lake, so plain that even Clark, who loves it, sometimes feels tired of it.
Young people always want to go out and try their luck, so he left Smallville and went somewhere else. The world outside is exciting and people live completely different lives. Clark's free time is filled with a constant influx of information. He actually has little time to miss his hometown. He is more focused on the present.
For example, at this moment, some people are receiving their first salary and embarking on an independent adult life, while others are wandering on the roof, wanting to jump off.
That was why he had hurriedly left at noon. His superhuman hearing had picked up a hint of unusual commotion—a mix of fear and apprehension, unlike any other public place, the anomaly as obvious as yogurt crumbs in cereal.
So Clark Kent found a not-so-clever excuse to leave the office and turned into Superman in a phone booth where the surveillance camera was blind.
In fact, if asked to choose the most challenging superhero task, Superman might cast his crucial vote for suicide intervention. The closer Clark Kent gets to the big city, the more he realizes the vast differences between people: region, country, race, upbringing. Each person is like a unique book—so unique that the pain they endure is also unique.
He met workers who had lost their jobs and ended up on the rooftop, and patients who wanted to end their lives after their pets died. If his earliest life lessons came from Martha, who taught him how to gently hold a butterfly in his palm, then his subsequent learning came from repeated rescues.
Superman can prop up a collapsing building and hold up a malfunctioning plane, but he always seems helpless when faced with someone who wants to end his life.
The cracks are not formed overnight, and the insignificant little things may become the straw that breaks the camel's back. Superman knows this very well, and he also knows that he cannot fill the cracks in his heart immediately by himself. The only thing a rescuer can do is to provide a piece of driftwood for the drowning person to lie on and take a breath for a while, and temporarily stop thinking about death, falling and fear, but think about love, hugs and sunshine.
Just like today at noon, we can stay with each other, chat about family matters like neighbors, and then wait for the desire for life to return to the body of the frustrated person like growing flowers - perhaps the ability to absorb sunlight is not what is special about Superman. People also have a necessary need for another kind of sunlight. The two are essentially no different, at least there is no difference in their understanding of love.
"I actually wanted to spend the holidays with my mother before dying." The rescued girl sobbed in his arms. They slowly descended from the rooftop, and her tears fell on Superman's uniform: "But life is always too bad."
"Do you believe me?" The gentle god used his red cloak to shield her from the media, his hand gently supporting her back. Those who had seen him often stepped forward to disperse the crowd, leaving space for the terrified family members and the tearful little girl.
No matter how strong the wind is, it will become gentle when it passes to his feet. The red cloak gently kisses his ankles. The questions asked by the god of the world are like a nap on a sunny afternoon, making people involuntarily follow their deepest thoughts.
She nodded, and Superman smiled too, his curls trembling slightly, looking just as full of life.
"Believe me, your life will get better and better," he said with a power of his own, as true as a prophecy: "You will defeat all the difficulties that stand in your way and move forward bravely."
"So promise me you won't hurt yourself this way again, okay?"
The girl made a solemn promise and was immediately embraced by her family. Cameras and cameras were trained on the rising star stationed in Metropolis, but everyone politely kept a distance when Superman needed them.
The newly appointed evening newspaper reporter took off his sunglasses, watched him rise, watched him disappear above the clouds, and said to the Daily Planet photographer in a rather familiar way, "Now I know why you Metropolitans love Superman so much."
Who wouldn’t be excited to see Jesus Christ walking?

However, the "Walking Metropolis of the Future" is currently sitting in an office cubicle that is a bit too cramped for someone of his size, repeatedly checking that email.
Clark was of course certain that this was an official email from Smallville, but the town had always been peaceful, and he was not used to such a big event.
…Of course, he was quite used to the $1,000 winner's bonus. Rent in Metropolis wasn't cheap, and neither was the damage Superman caused during his missions—though he tried to keep it under control, the ever-increasing figures still made Clark Kent sweat profusely every time he thought about it.
From this perspective, a thousand dollars can play a certain role no matter where it is placed. After a fierce ideological struggle, Clark decided to use his "special skills" and go back to participate in Smallville's Easter egg hunt.
Although Easter egg hunts are for children, the email doesn't prohibit adults from participating, right?

It's a small Easter Egg Festival, and it's amazing that there are two strong contestants at the same time. () Thank you to the little angels who voted for me or provided nutrient solution between 2024-05-19 23:56:54 and 2024-05-25 01:28:11~
