Chapter Twenty-Four: First Encounter with the Ancient One

Kamar-Taj is a village located in the Himalayas of Asia.

As Gel emerged from the portal, he didn't immediately seek out the Ancient One. Instead, he sensed her presence and quickly headed towards the street. After walking for a while, the sounds of everyday life grew closer, and Gel felt a surge of warmth as he looked at the familiar Asian faces passing by.

Breathing in the thin, pure air and gazing at the azure sky, Ger slowed his pace. Everywhere along the roadside, people prostrated themselves in prayer, while local grandmothers sat doing needlework, murmuring indistinct words, their faces aged but their eyes exceptionally clear.

The glow of the setting sun spilled onto the red and white buildings along the roadside, reflecting in the crystal-clear rivers that were everywhere, making them appear exceptionally solemn and dignified. Looking up into the distance, one could also see towering pagodas, which brought a sense of peace to the heart.

Feeling calmer, Ger walked around the crowded streets and headed into a secluded alley.

Standing in the alley, Geer unleashed his chaotic magic, turning it into wisps of mist that drifted everywhere.

The Ancient One is in the secret realm of Kamar-Taj; perhaps by using magical energy instead of eyes, she could sense that realm.

After an unknown amount of time, a voice reached Ge'er's ears: "Are you looking for me?"

Ger was startled, and the magical energy he had dissipated instantly returned to him. Ger opened his eyes and found a person in a gray robe standing in front of him.

This person was thin and upright, with no signs of age on his face, and it was even difficult to tell whether he was male or female. However, for some reason, he always seemed to be much older.

Even now, Geer cannot sense the presence of this person beside him; he can only see him with his eyes.

This is the first time Geer has encountered something like this since awakening Chaos Magic.

Looking at the thin, elderly man before him, Gel said respectfully, "I've heard that there's an elder in Kamar-Taj who possesses magic, named the Ancient One..."

“Yes, I am the Ancient One.” The Ancient One interrupted Gale’s next words. “Gale, I know you do not belong to this universe. In the long river of time I have been observing, you should not have existed.”

Gel was horrified. His worst fears had come true—since childhood, he had wanted to find the Ancient One, but he had always worried that she would see through his time traveler identity. He didn't know how the Ancient One would treat him, a time traveler. Therefore, when he came to find the Ancient One six years ago, he didn't use his magic to locate the secret realm.

But today, the Ancient One revealed his true identity.

The worry in Ge'er's heart immediately showed on his face.

Looking at Gel's expression, the Ancient One continued, "Gel, you don't need to worry so much. There's a reason why destiny brought you to our universe, and I won't interfere too much."

Gel didn't know whether the "Mandate of Heaven" mentioned by the Ancient One referred to a real great figure or some kind of mysterious being. After all, Gel himself didn't know why he had traveled to this universe.

But the Ancient One didn't mind his identity as a time traveler, which finally put Gale's mind at ease.

“After seeing you, I re-examined the future and found that it has changed a lot,” the Ancient One said, facing the setting sun.

"Is the change good or bad?" Ger couldn't help but ask.

“That’s up to you, Gol,” the Ancient One said ambiguously, then turned and said, “Come with me.”

Gel followed the Ancient One back down the street, turning left and right, and after about ten minutes, they arrived at an unremarkable little house.

Pushing open the small wooden door, the Ancient One went in first, and Gel followed without hesitation—if the Ancient One really wanted to harm him, he would have no chance to resist.

Therefore, Geer was no longer worried.

Approaching the wooden door, one enters a spacious, empty room filled with wooden furniture. Several incense burners are placed on the floor, with wisps of smoke rising from them. The afterglow of the setting sun streams into the room through the perforated windows, giving the entire room an indescribable solemnity.

The Ancient One stopped at a tea table, sat down on a wooden chair, poured a cup of tea for Gale, and gestured for Gale to sit opposite her: "Gale, your ability is very special. You can use the power of the Infinity Stones to amplify your abilities."

Ger sat down, took the tea, took a sip, nodded, and no longer hid anything: "Yes, I came here to borrow your Time Stone. Of course, I can't really say borrow it. I can absorb the power of the Time Stone from a distance and will never touch it."

Gel tried his best to express that he had no desire for the Time Stone.

“I sense your magical talent, Gel, a talent far more astonishing than mine.” The Ancient One looked at Gel earnestly. “Would you like to become my disciple? If so, I believe that the title of Sorcerer Supreme will soon be yours.”

Gel did not readily agree, but asked, "If I become your disciple, or rather, become the Sorcerer Supreme in the future, what do I need to do?"

The Ancient One looked directly into Gel's eyes and replied, "You need to be stationed at one of the three temples in New York, London, or Hong Kong to protect the Earth from the forces of darkness and to protect the laws of nature from being violated by anyone. This is the duty of the Sorcerer Supreme."

Ger thought about it carefully, then shook his head firmly.

Although he also enjoys chivalry, he doesn't want to be stuck in one place forever; there are still many things he wants to do.
