Chapter 294 Abnormal

The more Song Xingyao looked at it, the stranger it seemed; something just didn't make sense.

In fact, the children in orphanages come from only three sources:

The first category is those who have lost their father or mother and have no relatives to support them;

The second group consists of those who were abandoned and voluntarily sent to orphanages;

The third category is lost children who are unclaimed.

When I was in school, the survey results usually showed the second one to be more common, because most of the children sent to orphanages had some defects and were therefore abandoned. It's just that in recent years, DNA technology has reduced this group of children, but they still make up the majority.

A quick glance at the reasons for admission of nearly 60 children to the orphanage revealed that over 70% of them were lost children whom Director Yang encountered while out and about, and whose cases remained unclaimed even after being reported to the police.

This was clearly illogical, and Song Xingyao had a bold guess in her mind, but she herself seemed unable to believe it.

Shi Yu watched her expression shift from contemplation to disbelief.

She slowly voiced her speculation, "Could it be that these children were deliberately sent to Dean Yang in the first place...?"

After she finished speaking, the already quiet studio fell into an even deeper silence.

Shi Yu heard her words. Her idea was not unfounded. Such things had happened in S country before. Carefully selected children were sent to designated places to be fed and cared for. When they reached a certain age, they would be taken out to entertain guests.

They are exploited in their most youthful and beautiful years, and their final fate is to give birth to the next generation as they grow old and lose their beauty, becoming tools for others to play with, until all their value is squeezed out.

Although I don't want to believe it, the probability of this happening is not zero.

"Liu Shanshan might be an inside agent between them and the orphanage, placed next to Director Yang. I'll go see Xiaowen again this afternoon."

Although Song Xingyao was unwilling to believe it was true, she still needed to calm down and continue her investigation. If this was the case, then what about all those children who had been adopted and then returned? Where did those adopted children go?

Ever since Li Xinyi learned that Song Qiao and her son had come to Jiangcheng, she has become even less inclined to give Sun Jiming a friendly face.

But Sun Jiming seemed to have changed his ways. While indulging in the company of women, he deliberately struck up conversations with Li Xinyi to curry favor.

If Li Xinyi didn't know, she would think he had changed his personality. Unfortunately, she didn't have time to pay attention to Sun Jiming right now. Since taking Song Xingyao's advice and taking Sun Hui to socialize, her condition has improved a lot.

In a few days it will be Sun Hui's birthday. She casually mentioned to Sun Jiming that she wanted to take the child back to Taipei to celebrate her birthday with her maternal grandfather. After he rejected her, Li Xinyi became even more annoyed with him.

When he woke up from his afternoon nap, Sun Jiming, who had been very busy, was still sitting on the sofa in the suite's living room, as if he was deliberately waiting for Li Xinyi to come out.

Seeing Li Xinyi turn to go back to her room, he called out to her, "Xiao Hui's birthday is coming up soon, right? Let's celebrate it in Jiangcheng this time. It's a rare opportunity. You've been taking Xiao Hui out a lot lately, and I think she's much better than before. She can't still be as shameful as before. Let's invite some people to celebrate her birthday together."

"..." Although Li Xinyi was surprised, she still rolled her eyes where he couldn't see.

What kind of trick is this now? Have they become addicted to playing the "warm face to a cold backside" game?

Li Xinyi didn't speak, and Sun Jiming didn't care. He explained to himself, "It's been many years since I celebrated Xiaohui's birthday. We happen to be in Jiangcheng this year, so let's have a proper celebration."

These words sounded like an earth-shattering story coming from his mouth. Li Xinyi didn't care whether he was sincere to Sun Hui or not. She glanced at Sun Hui in the room and spoke in a rare gentle tone, "No need, let's keep it simple. Although she's better, she's not completely healed yet. I don't want Xiao Hui's birthday to be involved in any media publicity. She's still young."

No matter how close Sun Hui was to Sun Jiming, she was still his daughter, and that was undeniable. Even though she had him by her side every day, Sun Hui never mentioned her father. However, she did see some children being lifted up by their fathers at the amusement park.

She still couldn't help but show an envious expression. Although she knew that the possibility of Sun Jiming having a change of heart was even lower than that of a sea snake becoming a spirit, she was willing to try if it was something that would really benefit Sun Hui.

When Sun Jiming saw that she didn't refuse, a rare look of joy appeared on his face, which made Li Xinyi even more puzzled.

What surprised her even more was that Sun Jiming was actually just like the good man and father that outsiders saw him to be. He came home on time every day and patiently accompanied Sun Hui to do things that he had never done before.

She didn't know what had triggered him. Although she, as his wife, didn't want to talk to Sun Jiming, Sun Hui was still a child who longed for her father, and she couldn't stop her from doing so.

For several days in a row, Li Xinyi felt that the atmosphere in this suite was surprisingly harmonious.

This is exactly what Sun Jiming wanted to see. This woman absolutely could not stand against him, otherwise he would lose Li Zhi as an ally, and his chances of promotion would be even smaller.

Even though he hadn't visited Song Qiao and her son for several days, he felt neither reluctance nor longing.

He looked up at Li Xinyi, who was sitting on the bay window covered with a thin blanket. How come he had never noticed how alluring this woman was before?

The phone rang abruptly. He picked it up, glanced at it, and silenced it in one swift motion.

Then he looked up in Li Xinyi's direction and found that the woman had no reaction at all and did not pay any attention to him.

Seemingly sensing that someone was watching her, Li Xinyi put down the book in her hand, looked in Sun Hui's direction, stood up, and saw Sun Jiming holding his phone, assuming he was in a hurry to leave.

"If you have something to do, you can go ahead. Xiao Hui can play by herself."

Hearing her say that, Sun Jiming suddenly didn't want to leave.

"It's nothing important, I can just explain it over the phone."

He walked to the study in the suite with his phone in his hand, glancing back at the woman on the bay window, but she didn't even look up.

As the phone stopped ringing, Song Qiao watched the notification sound of the dialed number being automatically disconnected in her villa, and she was so angry that she wanted to throw her phone away!

He hasn't come in so long! Now he won't even answer the phone!

The next second, the phone, which was about to fly away, suddenly rang. She saw a familiar name on the screen and answered it excitedly.

"Hey~ honey!" Song Qiao said sweetly.

"What's wrong?" The cold tone softened slightly upon hearing the woman's gentle voice on the other end, which had initially made him feel uneasy about the sudden call.

"Are you coming over tonight... Xin'er and I haven't seen you in so long." She tugged at Song Xin, who was playing with building blocks.

Song Xin immediately rushed to the phone and obediently called out "Dad".

Hearing his son's voice, Sun Jiming's earlier frustration vanished, but thinking of the mother and daughter outside the door, he whispered something to the person on the other end of the phone.

"Xin'er, be good. Daddy's been busy lately, so I can't come over. Be a good boy/girl."
