Things aren't going well with Fu Siming's side, and Song Xingyao's project can't be delayed any longer.
With Liu Shanshan's help, the project activities and interviews that were being carried out simultaneously on the surface were progressing very smoothly.
It seemed that if things continued like this, a successful project completion was a sure thing.
I never expected that when I came here today, the children would say that Dean Yang took Liu Shanshan to participate in a charity exchange and learning trip outside the city.
Song Xingyao temporarily adjusted the learning activities and conducted interviews with the older children.
Perhaps Liu Shanshan had brainwashed them too much, because Song Xingyao couldn't get anything out of them.
After the interview, she even doubted whether she had gone in the wrong direction.
Standing up from the classroom chairs, waiting for the other children to leave, one girl lingered at the back, hesitatingly glancing back twice.
Song Xingyao saw it, but didn't go far, following behind the child.
Upon noticing someone following him, he seemed to struggle and hesitate, and slowed down even further.
At the end of the corridor, Song Xingyao stood still. Sure enough, after a short while, the girl walked towards her.
His eyes darted around timidly and anxiously, as if afraid someone would see him.
Song Xingyao patiently waited for her to approach.
The girl was thin and looked unwell; her eyes were vacant, hiding hesitation and fear.
"Teacher Song, I..."
She lowered her voice, as if afraid someone would hear her, but that only made her stand out more.
Song Xingyao pressed down on her shoulders and used her strength to push them back up from where they were slumping forward.
"Take your time and don't be afraid."
The girl was stunned; she felt as if Song Xingyao knew what she was about to say.
She reached into her pocket and took out a small wad of tissues.
Just as I was about to reach out, I heard footsteps on the stairs.
She shoved the things in her hand into Song Xingyao's hand, then quickly turned and ran away.
Song Xingyao crumpled the paper in her hand and, hearing footsteps approaching, stuffed the paper into her pocket.
Liu Shanshan's loud greeting arrived even before she appeared.
"Teacher Song, oh my, I didn't expect you to have finished all the activities for today. I was just telling Dean Yang that I was worried about how it would be for you to work without anyone to help you."
Dean Yang walked up half a step behind her and greeted Song Xingyao.
Seeing the two of them rush back, looking travel-worn, Song Xingyao said, "No, I've been here many times. The children here are very obedient and cooperative, and everything has gone smoothly."
Dean Yang nodded, "It's good that things are going smoothly with Xiao Song. Teacher Liu was just worried that the children would cause trouble, so it's my fault for not arranging the time in advance."
"No, Dean Yang, that's pretty much all I have to do for today. I'm going back to organize the materials. You've all worked hard, so please get some rest."
Song Xingyao greeted the two of them and left the orphanage with the researcher.
As I was leaving, I noticed the nervous and unnatural expression on Liu Shanshan's face.
He got on the bus, took a crumpled piece of paper out of his pocket, inside which lay a white, round pill.
A sense of unease flashed through Song Xingyao's mind.
The car radio played a long financial news report.
Upon hearing the name Tiansheng, she stopped on the steering wheel and did not drive off immediately.
After hearing the last sentence, "Tiansheng's stock has hit the daily limit down for the first time since its establishment. How will President Fu respond?"
An hour later, the car stopped in the underground parking lot of Tiansheng.
The entrance was packed with reporters, but no one dared to barge in.
Song Xingyao took the private elevator from the underground parking lot to the top floor.
They ran into Pei Jing just as he was coming out of his office.
Fortunately, the secretarial office on the top floor was not in a chaotic situation as I had imagined.
She felt a little relieved.
"Madam?! You've arrived?" Pei Jing greeted her.
"Hmm, is he here?"
"Please come in, Mr. Fu is inside."
Song Xingyao was eager to see him, so she nodded and went straight inside.
Someone peeked out from the secretary's office, wanting to see if Pei Jing, who had just come out of the president's office, was acting strangely, and this is what they saw.
Unable to help but overthink, she met Pei Jing's gaze and immediately put aside her extraneous thoughts, getting back to work.
Song Xingyao was a little anxious and pushed the door open without knocking.
Fu Siming sat at his desk, just like every time he had come before.
His sharp, shrewd eyes were fixed on the screen as he typed something.
He was pleasantly surprised to see Song Xingyao standing at the door.
Stop what you're doing and stand up.
Somewhat surprised, "Why are you here?"
Song Xingyao was still a little unsteady on her feet because she was anxious, so Fu Siming picked up the cup on the table and brought it to her lips.
What's the rush?
"..." She should have realized she had fallen into the trap of the marketing accounts. How could this man be in crisis because of a single day's stock price?
But she still took a sip of water, "and saw a group of reporters gathered at the entrance of Tiansheng."
He couldn't help but laugh, "You don't trust your husband that much?"
"..." She reached out and shoved him. "Still grinning like that? What's wrong with you? Didn't you personally review all the bidding materials?"
She remembered the man who had been verbally abused last time.
Fu Siming pulled her to the computer and onto his lap, so that they were at eye level.
Song Xingyao couldn't understand the dense black code on the computer screen.
Fu Siming stared at her for a while: "If Tiansheng really goes under, will you support me?"
"What are you saying?" she pushed him.
Thinking to myself: Why do all the men around me say they want to work for me? It's all so ridiculous...
He lingered in the crook of her neck for a while, but she pushed him away, realizing she was genuinely curious.
Fu Siming then spoke up honestly, "It's nothing. Sun Jiming is just making a fuss over some trivial matter to annoy people. He wants me to cooperate with him."
"?"
"But didn't you already reject him?"
"So he was trying to tell me that if I didn't cooperate with him, he would find a way to prevent me from winning the bid."
Unexpectedly, Sun Jiming was so persistent, and Song Xingyao fell into deep thought.
Looking at the dazed woman with a hint of amusement, he asked, "Song Xingyao, are you worried about me?"
There was a hint of pleasure in his tone, which left Song Xingyao somewhat puzzled.
"Of course I'm worried! And you're still laughing?"
"Of course, Song Xingyao, I missed you. I've been so busy lately, it's been so long since I've seen you."
His voice carried a different emotion, and his hot breath traveled over her neck.
It made her feel a little itchy.
The next second, he lifted her up from the leather armchair.
The feeling of weightlessness made her grab Fu Siming's neck and gasp, "Ah!"
"Shh, aren't you afraid the people outside will hear us?"
His words were ambiguous, deep, and sexy, making it impossible for her to think.
After being left on the bed in the lounge, Song Xingyao finally remembered what she had come there for.
She pressed her palm against his chest, "Wait..."
"Um?"
She took the thing wrapped in white paper out of her pocket.
He snatched it away and placed it on the glass cabinet beside him, thus taking away her wandering thoughts.
