Chapter 53 Fu Yao Meets Gu Mai Again

Gu Mai stood up from the sofa and slowly walked towards the man on the ground, his eyes cold yet holding a barely perceptible smile.

"Just tell me who the person who took your place in our private room that day was, and I'll let you go," he said calmly.

"I don't know, I really don't know," the man said as he kowtowed. Dust had settled on his forehead from the movement, covering the bruises under his skin.

"I thought he was a new guy because I didn't recognize his face, so I let him in. I really didn't know who he was."

He was so anxious he was about to cry. He never imagined that he would be dragged into this disaster just because he was being lazy.

Seemingly afraid that Gu Mai wouldn't believe him, he crawled up to him and grabbed his trouser leg tightly.

Gu Mai clicked his tongue impatiently, looked up and gestured to the bodyguards standing next to him. The two of them hurriedly stepped forward and dragged the person out of the room.

They dared to plot against him right under his nose.

He poured the remaining red wine on the ground, staining it red, which looked as eerie as a pool of blood.

The slender cup was also broken in two in his hand.

Gu Mai's subordinate followed him in. "Young Master, the one who handed over the materials today was Shi Yu from the Orland family. The Orland Group is a behind-the-scenes investment by the Orland family."

"Orland?" The two families have never had a direct conflict, nor have they had any unpleasantness in S country. Why are they now extending their reach to Jiangcheng?

“Investigate. There has never been any conflict between the two families. Why would he need to make an enemy of Sige in Jiangcheng?”

He gave an order to the man behind him, then, as if suddenly remembering something, asked, "Where is the young master?"

"The young master is currently being taken care of by the people in the head of the family, so he should be fine."

He waved, and the people behind him left the room.

Thinking of the child still lying in the incubator, a hint of tenderness flashed across Gu Mai's face, before disappearing into his cold gaze.

Long, slender fingers swiped across the phone screen, finally stopping at an entertainment news item: #FuFamilyHeiressYachtParty

Looking at the woman's face in the picture, he was thinking about something.

He sent a message, and soon after, he received a string of addresses in reply.

He had the driver park the car in front of the private club, but he didn't get out. People were coming and going at the entrance, and no one noticed the car.

Gu Mai looked out the car window at the entrance. Despite the tedious wait, there was no sign of annoyance in his eyes.

He finally got out of the car after seeing Fu Yao escort the person out and then go back in.

This private club operates on a membership registration system, and Gu Mai gave the receptionist Fu Yao's name.

The receptionist hesitated because Ms. Fu had only registered two guests that evening, and they had just seen them off, without mentioning any new guests coming later.

Seeing her like this, Gu Mai gave her a look that returned to his usual playboy manner, "I just came to give her a surprise."

The receptionist lowered her head and hesitated for a while before speaking.

She thought to herself: What a charming man! But he does have an extraordinary air about him, with delicate features and wearing expensive clothes. He's from the upper class, and she probably can't afford to offend any of them.

"Well then, sir, I'll call Ms. Fu to confirm." He then picked up the landline receiver beside him.

But Gu Mai pressed the hang-up button, "You told her there was no surprise left?"

"I won't make things difficult for you, beautiful lady. I'll just sit here for a while and wait for her to come out." His polite demeanor was unlike that of an ordinary rich second-generation.

The receptionist thought this way, but also knew that she couldn't afford to mess with such a man, so she let him be.

After saying that, Gu Mai picked up his phone and sent a message. Less than 10 minutes later, Fu Yao came down with her bag.

She looked at the man at the door with barely concealed fear on his face. Gu Mai's face was also quite eye-catching, making it hard for passersby not to notice him.

Seeing the hurried pedestrians on the street and the front desk staff craning their necks to look at her curiously, Fu Yao suppressed her expression.

She returned to her sweet and flawless appearance, greeted him, and the two of them got into the car parked at the door and left.

The receptionist wanted to gossip about the relationship between the two, but Fu Yao left so quickly that she didn't get the chance.

Gu Mai pressed down the partition inside the car.

Fu Yao was no longer as at ease as she was in public; a deep fear flickered in her eyes as she thought of the days she had been imprisoned and the unpredictable man before her.

"Are you doing well back in China?" he asked with a smile.

"What exactly do you want? Didn't you let me come back?"

Fu Yao looked at the man in front of her with some wariness, but the man was amused by her dodging movements.

He reached out and touched her hair; she stood there nervously, her body stiff.

"I just feel like your ex-lover, whom you still think about so much, seems to have forgotten you long ago."

Hearing this, she finally came to her senses and pushed his hand away forcefully, as if stung by his words.

"What does this have to do with you? Please, leave me alone and stop bothering me."

As if he had heard a joke, he distanced himself from her, his eyes scanning her up and down, his gaze making her appear as if she were naked.

"You think changing your clothes makes you a pure and innocent flower? It seems he doesn't know what kind of person you are, no, I should say the entire Jiangcheng doesn't know what kind of person you are, right?"

He lifted his chin, revealing an undisguised look of disdain.

"I thought you could still be of some use, but I didn't expect... you can't even get close to him after you came back."

Fu Yao was completely enraged. Her reddened eyes glared at the man in front of her, and the fear in her eyes was squeezed out by anger.
