Chapter 9 The Fu Family

“Our Fu family doesn’t have this rule when it comes to finding a daughter-in-law. If you like someone, go after her yourself. Don’t act like a spoiled young master.”

Seeing the table was deserted, Jiang Man quickly spoke up.

Upon hearing this, Fu Siming casually remarked, "Those who know you'd think you're getting married, but those who don't would think you're afraid someone's after the pittance you have."

Song Xingyao's eyes moved back and forth between the two brothers. The two brothers did look somewhat similar, both inheriting the good-looking genes of Fu Ting and Jiang Man, but their personalities were completely different.

Fu Bowen's air of a refined scoundrel is like looking at a brightly colored venomous snake; you get close because of his beautiful appearance, but you never know when he might bite you.

When I first met Fu Siming, he seemed to have a "keep away" sign hanging around him. Although he could be sarcastic and sharp-tongued at times, but...

"Even eating can't shut you up, huh! If you keep arguing every time you meet, don't come back next time!"

The two finally stopped when the old man spoke.

"Little Song, after you've eaten, stay here tonight." Old Master Fu was somewhat fond of Song Xingyao because she was well-behaved and didn't say anything.

Song Xingyao couldn't make up her mind, so she turned to look at the man beside her.

"Don't try to fob me off with excuses about work. If you have something to do, go home by yourself. Don't drag me along. You rarely come home, and I don't usually see you running around like this."

Before Fu Siming could refuse, Old Master Fu threw out his words.

"...Well, you're not asking me, are you? Why are you informing me here?"

"Ever since you said you were going to go out and work on your own, you haven't come home for days on end. I haven't seen you for almost two months. Now that you have a granddaughter-in-law, I can't keep up with you."

Jiang Man was just worried about how to detain the man from her son when the old man spoke up. The old man always had a solution.

Seeing that Fu Siming had been subdued with just a few words, Song Xingyao felt a surge of respect for the old man and smiled as she agreed.

After dinner, Fu Ting saw that his wife was still trying to linger with his daughter-in-law, so he couldn't sit still and carried her back to the room.

Fu Siming looked at his father with gratitude.

He pressed the woman's delicate body against the door, and the clear bracelet on his wrist collided with the door, making a crisp sound.

Song Xingyao struggled to break free and tried to take off the bracelet from her hand.

"Auntie...Mom...just gave this to me, it's too precious, please take it back..."

"I'm giving this to you, so just keep it with you. It's a little trinket. My mom has collected a whole bunch of them. If you take it off now, she'll think you don't like it and open her collection room for you to choose from."

Fu Siming understood her thoughts perfectly, and upon hearing this, Song Xingyao indeed stopped making any further moves.

Fu Siming's lips stopped on Song Xingyao's neck, his nimble fingers just touching her knuckles.

A voice suddenly came from the doorway: "Young Madam, the Old Master requests your presence."

A bucket of cold water was poured over him. Fu Siming lowered his head to Song Xingyao's neck, let out a long breath, and shouted angrily outside: "Go tell the old man that if he doesn't want to hold his grandson, he can come and bother us all he wants."

Song Xingyao's face flushed red instantly. She gently tapped his shoulder with her fist and quickly covered his mouth with her right hand, afraid that he would say something shocking again.

Seeing the woman in front of him like this, Fu Siming chuckled softly through his fingers, making the air in the room even more ambiguous.

Song Xingyao seemed to realize that her actions had gone too far, and withdrew her hand, preparing to slip away.

"Alright, you go first, otherwise that old man will come up and take people away himself in a little while."

Then he whispered in her ear, "The night is still long!"

*

"The young mistress has arrived."

When Song Xingyao came in, she saw that Grandpa Fu was writing with a brush, and the two characters, "Family Harmony," were written in large, bold characters.

Unlike his playful old man demeanor at the dinner table, he stared intently at Song Xingyao with his eyes: "Can you write?"

Yes, but it's not well written.

When Song Xingyao lived at the high school, there was always an old man on the back hill. Song Xingyao saw that he was there every day and loved to go there whenever she had free time. The old man saw that Song Xingyao often came over with books to read and asked her if she wanted to study.

Whenever she had the chance, Song Xingyao studied with the old man for more than two years during her spare time.

During my senior year of high school, I was so busy that I didn't have the energy to spend any more time on it, so I stopped. But I didn't leave any contact information at the time, and when I went back later, I never saw the old man who wrote the calligraphy again.

"Come on. Let me see you write." The sandalwood pen in his hand landed in Song Xingyao's hand.

Song Xingyao stood before the desk, pulled the paperweight, and added the three characters "May all things prosper" after the old man's "Harmony in the Family".

Despite his slender arms, his brushstrokes were powerful and vigorous, decisive and clean, with crisp strokes at the end.

The old man's eyes lit up; the calligraphy did resemble Mr. Wu Xian's style.

"Girl, who taught you to write like this?"

"I don't know. Many years ago, I studied with an old man behind the school for a while, but I stopped studying later because I was busy with my studies."

Grandpa Fu felt a little regretful after finishing, so he went back to the cabinet behind him and took out a pen with a white jade handle. It was in a glass box and was clearly a top-quality collectible.

"Keep this. You have talent, don't let it go easily. My rascal, he's so old and still hasn't settled down. I heard he got married a few days ago. Although he didn't tell me, I was very happy. If he treats you badly, come back and tell me!"

"He is a bit cold, but his heart is exactly like his mother's. Sometimes he is very straightforward and doesn't know how to coax girls."

Upon hearing this, Song Xingyao thought to herself, "He doesn't know how to coax girls? That can't be right." The old man probably had some misunderstanding.

Grandpa Fu added, "You guys need to hurry up, I'd like to hold my great-grandson soon!"

These words made Song Xingyao, who had initially intended to politely decline the treasure, feel too embarrassed to speak again.

"Alright, go back! If I don't let you go, this kid will find his way back to me soon." Old Master Fu waved his hand.

As Song Xingyao walked along the corridor, she sighed with emotion.

Originally, they had a disagreement with Song Ping and his wife that afternoon, but the warmth of the Fu family elders made them forget all their troubles.

Despite the Fu family's high status in Jiangcheng, the atmosphere at home was still relaxed and pleasant. It's true that children from good families don't lack love. Fu Ting and Jiang Man looked very loving, which naturally made the family atmosphere harmonious. A sense of disparity arose in my heart.

The relationship between the two brothers seems a bit strange...

While still lost in thought, Song Xingyao bumped into someone as she turned the corner.

Song Xingyao covered her head and said, "I'm sorry, I was so careless while walking."

Upon recognizing Song Xingyao, Fu Bo stopped in front of her, saying, "Oh, it's your sister-in-law!"
