Chapter 988: You are the second female lead
Zhen Yan took a deep breath and tried to make her voice sound steady. "Sister Zheng, I tried my best to act, but... Director Wang just told me to go back and wait for news. I don't know what the result will be."
On the other end of the phone, Zheng Qian spoke cheerfully, trying to comfort her, "Don't overthink it. If Director Wang says that, it means you did a good job! You don't know, I just ran into a few people who had just finished an audition, and they all said your acting was incredibly powerful and that you brought the character to life."
Zhen Yan gave a bitter laugh, "Sister Zheng, please stop trying to tease me. The ones who auditioned are all talented. The one who won the Best Newcomer award, and the young actress who became famous for starring in a campus drama, all of them have their own aura. How can I compare to them?"
Zheng Qian raised her voice, "Yanyan, don't underestimate yourself! You're the only one who knows how much you've put into this audition. You haven't even gotten enough sleep these past few days, all for the sake of being able to shine in this audition. Director Wang and the professional judges know whether you performed well or not."
As he was speaking, the door of the audition room opened again and the next actress walked in.
Zhen Yan subconsciously moved to the side and lowered her voice: "Sister Zheng, let's not talk about it for now. I'll wait here for a while and see if I can hear any news."
After hanging up the phone, Zhen Yan found a seat in the corner of the corridor and sat down.
People were coming and going around, some were looking depressed after the audition, while others were confidently discussing the details of the performance.
She sat there, her thoughts drifting away, recalling the days when she was a supporting actress on the set, exposed to the sun and rain, repeatedly pondering over a line or a shot, and enduring so much hardship and suffering, all for the sake of being one step closer to her dream.
After an unknown amount of time, the doors of all the audition rooms opened and the judges walked out one after another.
Director Wang and several main creators were talking in low voices as they walked. Zhen Yan's heart was in her throat. She stood up and subconsciously moved forward, trying to catch even a glimmer of useful information.
At this moment, Director Wang's assistant suddenly walked towards her with an unreadable expression on his face.
Zhen Yan was so nervous that she didn't know where to put her hands and feet, and could only stare at the other person blankly.
The assistant stood in front of her, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, and he said softly, "Director Wang asked you to stay for a moment. There are some details I want to discuss with you."
Zhen Yan's heart suddenly trembled, and surprise instantly surged in her heart, but she still tried to remain calm and followed her assistant into the audition room again.
Director Wang was sitting at the table, flipping through the script. When he saw her come in, he pointed to the chair next to him and said, "Don't be nervous, sit down and talk."
Director Wang pushed up his glasses and said seriously, "Your performance is very contagious, and your understanding and portrayal of the character are very thoughtful. However, there are a few areas where I think you could use some more polish."
As he spoke, Director Wang opened the script, pointed out several key plot points, and elaborated on his understanding and expectations of the character.
Zhen Yan listened attentively, nodded from time to time, and secretly took note of every word that Director Wang said.
After the discussion, Director Wang smiled and said, "Think about it when you get home. Wait for my news in the next two days."
When Zhen Yan walked out of the set, it was already dark.
Zheng Qian had been waiting at the door long ago. As soon as she saw her, she eagerly came over and asked, "How's it going? What did Director Wang want to talk to you about?"
Zhen Yan told her everything that had just happened. Zheng Qian clapped her hands excitedly, "Great! This is a positive sign! Maybe the second female lead will be yours!"
