Chapter 10 Mr. Ji Washes His Hands and Cooks Soup

But Xu Qingyun seemed to be overthinking things; Ji Hanchen left Guyunfang after saying those words.

Back in the car, Ji Hanchen immediately sent a video to Xu Qingyun.

Xu Qingyun frowned slightly, not answering immediately, her mind slightly agitated.

After removing the butterfly mask from her face, Xu Qingyun sat down on the sofa before answering the phone, "Mr. Ji."

Ji Hanchen frowned slightly: "I have a name that's hard to pronounce, so you call me Mr. Ji?"

Xu Qingyun ignored him: "What does Mr. Ji want with me?"

Ji Hanchen suddenly raised his sexy thin lips: "Have you heard of Mr. Songzhu, the restorer at Guyunfang?"

Xu Qingyun hummed in agreement. Was Ji Hanchen testing her?

“When you left the Xu family, you were carrying a piece of broken jade. It must have been a very important item to you. I asked Mr. Songzhu to repair it for you.”

Xu Qingyun felt her blood rising.

It turns out that the "wife" Ji Hanchen was referring to was indeed her.

Xu Qingyun recalled his words, "I'm currently pursuing him."

Therefore, her previous feeling that Ji Hanchen was aggressive towards her was not a misperception; Ji Hanchen genuinely wanted to pursue her.

Xu Qingyun remained calm: "The old gentleman agreed?"

"It wasn't an old man, it was a very arrogant woman. It was the first time I, a grown man, had ever humbled myself in front of a woman."

Ji Hanchen's eyes were filled with a smile, and there was no trace of him lying.

Xu Qingyun raised her eyebrows slightly: "Humble and subservient?"

She agreed readily, hardly making things difficult for Ji Hanchen; he certainly dared to say that.

However, Ji Hanchen probably didn't recognize her.

Ji Hanchen let out a low chuckle: "Let's not talk about it anymore. Let's have dinner together tonight. Give me the jade pendant, and I'll pick you up from your house."

"No……"

"Yunyun, it's just a meal, it's not excessive, right?" Ji Hanchen didn't give Xu Qingyun a chance to refuse.

Xu Qingyun's breath hitched, and after a moment of silence, she said, "Okay."

Ji Hanchen's smile deepened: "See you tonight."

After hanging up the video call, he looked at Chiang Hsun and said, "Have someone prepare the ingredients and send them to Banwan."

Jiang Xun was somewhat surprised: "Doesn't President Ji make reservations for restaurants?"

Ji Hanchen smiled slightly: "I want to cook myself."

Jiang Xun's eyes widened. President Ji really likes Miss Xu, he actually wants to cook for her himself.

"President Ji, I'm reminded of a line of poetry: 'Three days in the kitchen, washing hands to prepare soup.'"

Faced with Jiang Xun's teasing, Ji Hanchen was not annoyed: "Six years ago, Yunyun risked her life for me, so what is it for me to wash my hands and cook for her now?"

Chiang Hsun said with envy, "Your relationship with Miss Hsu is truly destined."

Ji Hanchen was pleased by this statement: "Have the finance department give you a 10% raise."

"Thank you, Mr. Ji."

"Let's talk about Xie Yunyun." Ji Hanchen smiled, in a very good mood.

**

Xu Qingyun had already hung up the video call, but the heat on her cheeks hadn't completely subsided.

She couldn't understand Ji Hanchen. They were complete strangers, so why was he suddenly pursuing her?

love at first sight?

Or was it lust at first sight?

Just as Xu Qingyun was lost in thought, the sound of arguing came from downstairs, interrupting her thoughts.

"Old Liu, get out of my way, do you hear me?!" Xu Jia shouted.

Liang Wanrou tugged at her daughter's sleeve and said softly, "Old Liu, I'm just here to see Mr. Songzhu. Please tell him for us."

Old Liu scoffed, "Do you think you can just see Mr. Songzhu whenever you want?"

"Then tell me, how can we see the old gentleman? Even just a phone call would be helpful."

Liang Wanrou is more composed and better at putting on an act than Xu Jia.

She didn't want to cause any unnecessary trouble; achieving her goal was the main priority.

Old Liu patiently dialed the store's internal line.

Xu Qingyun used a voice changer, her voice deep and resonant: "What is it?"

Before Lao Liu could speak, Liang Wanrou immediately grabbed the phone and said with a smile, "Mr. Songzhu, I am Liang Wanrou, Xu Sen's wife. I am here today to ask you for a favor. If Xu Qingyun asks you to repair the jade pendant, please refuse. I will give you a reward of ten million."

Xu Qingyun's eyes flickered slightly: "Ten million?"

“That’s right, ten million.” Liang Wanrou glanced at her daughter Xu Jia, quite pleased with herself.

People die for wealth, birds die for food; if someone were to receive ten million for nothing, no one would be unmoved.

Xu Qingyun said indifferently, "I understand. Give the money to Lao Liu."

Liang Wanrou beamed with joy: "Okay."

After hanging up the phone, she immediately handed the bank card to Lao Liu and then left with Xu Jia.

Xu Jia pouted: "You gave him ten million for nothing?"

Liang Wanrou poked her temple: "You're so stingy. What's ten million?"

"If Xu Qingyun discovers that the jade pendant is a token of the Ji family and steals your engagement, you will lose more than ten million!"

"We'll make a profit by spending ten million to resolve this matter."

Xu Jia laughed: "Mom, you're the one with the best ideas. Xu Qingyun thought that being kept by Xu Zhengyuan would give her a chance to get close to Mr. Songzhu, but he doesn't just take orders randomly, so there's no way she'll be able to fix that broken jade pendant."

*

Third floor.

“Miss, Liang Wanrou has never been a generous person, and ten million is not a small amount. She gave it to you so readily. I feel there is something wrong.”

Old Liu had followed Xu Hongru for many years and had practically watched Xu Qingyun grow up, so he spoke his mind directly.

Xu Qingyun nodded: "This jade pendant is not simple. Liang Wanrou is trying to cover up some shady secret. Uncle Liu, do you think it might be related to Grandpa's death?"

“I spoke with my grandfather on the phone before I returned to China, but he passed away right after I boarded the plane. It was so sudden.”

A hint of pain flashed in Old Liu's eyes: "I also think there's something fishy about the master's death, but I have no evidence."
