Xu Qingyun's pupils contracted slightly, as if something was dragging her into the darkness. She immediately turned to the window, trying to find a glimmer of light.
Seeing this, Ji Hanchen said with a hint of anxiety, "It's okay if you don't want to say, Yunyun, I won't ask anymore."
Yunyun's face turned pale; it was clearly a terrifying experience. Why did he ask?!
hateful!
Ji Hanchen suddenly felt a pang of self-loathing. He was used to being a master strategist in the business world, so why did he want to be so in control of relationships?
No, he didn't. He didn't want to control Yunyun; he just wanted to understand her better.
Just as Ji Hanchen was feeling frustrated, Xu Qingyun finally spoke up.
"After being kicked out of the Xu family, I missed my grandfather very much, but my uncle wouldn't let me leave."
"One night six months later, I secretly ran away while my uncle was away."
“I was just thirteen at the time, and I was very thin and small. A homeless man saw that I was a little girl and I was alone, so he followed me into the subway station and then tackled me.”
"I shouted for help, but there were only a few drug-addicted men around me who were out of their minds."
"Instead of helping me, they stood up unsteadily and, together with the homeless man, held me down."
"They slapped me, I lost my hearing, and I was instantly dizzy. I had no chance to fight back and just passed out."
"When I woke up, I was already in the hospital, covered in wounds and my clothes were torn to shreds."
Xu Qingyun didn't continue speaking; her voice abruptly stopped.
boom!
Ji Hanchen's dark eyes widened suddenly, his throat felt like it was being squeezed tightly, unable to make a sound or breathe.
The air seemed to freeze, the silence was suffocating.
This is Xu Qingyun's darkest memory, which she has kept buried deep within her past.
She had never told anyone except her uncle and cousin.
Her uncle said that this matter must be buried deep in her heart and no one should know about it, because it would become a sharp knife for others to hurt her!
Xu Qingyun didn't know why she would personally dig it out and present it to Ji Hanchen.
Perhaps because the nightmares she had forgotten had resurfaced, she wanted to face them bravely.
While Ji Hanchen remained silent, Xu Qingyun also lowered her eyes, appearing calm, but cautiously eavesdropping to observe Ji Hanchen's reaction.
She wondered if Ji Hanchen would mind? Would he ask her if she had actually been raped?
Xu Qingyun didn't know what actually happened that night, and her uncle never mentioned it.
But judging from her uncle's reaction, she is most likely already... unclean.
Xu Qingyun's lack of hope for love is partly related to this memory.
She is actually... very insecure.
Ji Hanchen didn't ask anything, but simply pulled Xu Qingyun into his arms again, his voice hoarse as if it had been scorched by fire, "This will never happen again. Yunyun, believe me, it will never happen."
At that moment, Xu Qingyun felt as if something had stabbed her in the chest; it hurt terribly.
Ji Hanchen didn't ask, and surprisingly, he didn't show any disgust, which made her feel a little strange.
**
"Oh, everyone's up already."
A smiling male voice came from the doorway, and Xu Qingyun and Ji Hanchen looked over at the same time.
Lu Chuan peeked out with a smile, holding a large bouquet of flowers in his left hand and an exquisite fruit basket in his right, as if he really had come to visit a patient.
Ji Hanchen frowned, slightly displeased that his friend had suddenly appeared. "Why are you here?"
"Of course I came to see... oh dear."
Before Lu Chuan could finish speaking, someone pushed him from behind and sent him darting into the ward.
Shen Luo was dressed in a black suit, a white shirt, and a blue and white striped tie. His handsome face was unsmiling, as if it said, "Keep away."
He was the one who pushed Lu Chuan just now.
"He's acting all sneaky when he visits a patient."
Shen Luo gave a cold laugh and entered the ward with an air of nonchalance.
He placed the four-layer insulated lunchbox on the coffee table and said in a low, cold voice, "Breakfast prepared by Aunt Chen."
Ji Hanchen raised an eyebrow. "You're home?"
Shen Luo sat down on the sofa, her brows furrowing slightly, somewhat annoyed. "That woman pretended to be sick to get me to go home, so I stayed there for one night."
Lu Chuan squeezed through the crowd, his face plastered with a lewd grin. "Old Ji, don't let Shen Luo's sour face fool you. When I went to see him this morning, he was beaming with pride. He must have been quite the womanizer last night..."
"Lu Chuan." Ji Hanchen suddenly called out in a cold voice, his handsome brows furrowed with annoyance.
Lu Chuan was taken aback for a moment before realizing that Lao Ji and his young girl were still in the ambiguous stage of their relationship, both being innocent elementary school students, so he couldn't say anything carelessly.
"Haha, don't mind me, sister-in-law. I just don't know how to keep my mouth shut," Lu Chuan quickly apologized.
Xu Qingyun frowned slightly, and the corners of her lips pursed up as well.
Is "little sister-in-law" what you call her?
Ji Hanchen glared coldly at Lu Chuan, but when he turned to look at Xu Qingyun, his gaze softened.
"This is Lu Chuan, the other one is Shen Luo, and this is the doctor who examined you yesterday, that's Bai Ruiting. The four of us are childhood friends, we grew up together since we were little," Ji Hanchen introduced softly.
Xu Qingyun nodded, "Hello."
But actually, she didn't really want to deal with this kind of relationship. First, she was rather cold-hearted and not very good at it. Second, she and Ji Hanchen didn't have that kind of relationship.
Lu Chuan grinned, his dimples looking rather mischievous: "Hello, little sister-in-law."
Shen Luo nodded in agreement. She was usually very sparing with her words, but today she said a few more words. "I've heard Han Chen mention you all the time. Today I finally see your true face. Miss Yunyun is absolutely stunning. She is worthy of Old Ji keeping her as a treasure."
Xu Qingyun felt slightly awkward. She glanced at Ji Hanchen, unsure how to respond. After a moment, she pursed her pink lips and said softly, "Mr. Chen, you flatter me."
