When he was locked in the cage, he thought, "This short life is about to end."
He doesn't know if his mother and older brother have been reincarnated, or if there is another world, or if he will ever be able to see them.
But when Zhao Xiaoyue appeared before him, he no longer wanted to die. This girl had so many secrets, which inexplicably piqued his curiosity, but he couldn't get any information out of her.
Just like now, even though I'm clearly very sad and disappointed, I insist on lying.
And in that house in the Colosseum, it was clearly post-traumatic stress disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder related to those things.
The trembling, even to the point of isolating oneself from external sounds, is a lingering effect where the soul and body feel distinctly separated. The body trembles involuntarily, becomes agitated, and is difficult to calm down.
What happened to that little girl who could take on a hundred men single-handedly in the school alleyway that caused her to suffer lasting effects in such an environment?
When he looked into her eyes, he could clearly feel Zhao Xiaoyue's inner struggle and helplessness.
Like a fish whose gills are stuck shut, unable to breathe, yet unable to leave the water, that despair made him feel inexplicably sorry for it.
So my legs moved towards her against my will, and with the last of my strength, I hugged her tightly, so that she would feel that someone was beside her.
Situ Ming's gentle and sensitive gaze startled Zhao Xiaoyue. "Brother Ming, are you alright?" What kind of look was that?
"Actually, it's nothing. I just happened to save you by chance."
Situ Mingrui's eyes flashed, and he changed the subject, "Who is that foreigner to you?"
Foreigner? What foreigner?
Zhao Xiaoyue was stunned for a moment before realizing that he was talking about the comic convention.
"You mean the comic convention? He's one of Hou Taotao's partners. He's quite familiar with this country, so Hou Taotao asked him to come along with me!"
Situ Ming pressed further, "You two seem to have a very good relationship."
It's not a question, it's a statement.
Zhao Xiaoyue denied it, "It wasn't really that good, it was purely about using relationships! He's most familiar with Hou Taotao and the others, hehehehe!"
Her relationship with the comic convention wasn't something she wanted people to know; she couldn't explain how a country girl could meet a foreigner.
She just gave Hou Taotao and the others a perfunctory response; that guy seemed really cunning.
Situ Ming didn't ask any more questions. It was obvious that their relationship was unusual. If he didn't want to talk about it, he wouldn't. He would find out eventually.
"Hmm, I thought you knew someone here!" she said, then lay down on the bed, seemingly exhausted.
Zhao Xiaoyue became a little nervous. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Situ Ming said with his eyes half-closed, "I feel very weak, dizzy, and my vision is a little blurry."
The medicine I've been taking these past two days has started to work; my skin has lost its sickly paleness, but I'm still terribly weak.
"Lie down, I'll go get something to eat. This place is different from back home, so we'll just have to make do with what we have. Back home, we can supplement our diet with proper nutrition."
She tucked herself in and rushed out, only to rush back in less than twenty minutes later with a takeout bowl of porridge.
Given Situ Ming's current physical condition, he can only eat liquid food, and porridge is the best option.
"What is this?" He was afraid it was something bitter again.
As Zhao Xiaoyue put the things down, she explained, "This is pork liver porridge, which is good for replenishing qi and blood. You shouldn't eat hard foods right now."
A bowl of fragrant pork liver congee was already in front of him.
Stirring the porridge, Situ Ming concealed the emotions in his eyes and said, "Can I ask you a question?"
Zhao Xiaoyue admired the handsome young man in front of her. You know what, this guy's half-up hairstyle was simply irresistible!
Zhao Xiaoyue was completely mesmerized.
Situ Ming smiled enigmatically, "Why are you so good to me?"
ah?
Why is she so good to him?
Yes! Why?
Zhao Xiaoyue suddenly stammered, blinking her eyes in confusion, "Am I... good to you?"
With half a bowl of porridge nearly empty, Situ Ming nodded with his eyes half-closed, "Besides my mother and eldest brother, no one else has ever treated me this well!"
Um... that's hard to say!
"Perhaps you haven't noticed?" Zhao Xiaoyue asked tentatively.
Situ Ming put down the empty bowl. "I was born into a wealthy family. My mother was a warm and virtuous woman. She gave birth to my eldest brother when she was seventeen, and I was born when she was thirty-five."
Zhao Xiaoyue was at a loss again. What's wrong with this child?
Situ Ming ignored the little girl's bewildered expression and simply said, "They all died in a car accident when they were five years old."
Zhao Xiaoyue's heart skipped a beat, but the person on the bed narrating the events showed no emotion whatsoever.
"At five years old, you met Situ Cheng. He led the bullying of me, threatening the servants at home not to give me food, or to give me spoiled food. This was commonplace."
Seeing the little girl's pretty eyebrows furrowed, he continued to play the victim, "The adults in her family broke into my mother's room, tied me up, and took all the valuables from my mother and older brother." He spoke with a sorrowful expression.
However, he took his revenge right then and there.
He knew there was a pistol in his older brother's drawer, and he had seen his brother use it. He took it out of the drawer; there were seven bullets inside.
Those people were holding their mother's and elder brother's belongings, and some were even fighting over them.
He pointed his gun at those people and fired all seven bullets, but unfortunately none of them died.
He didn't say that part.
Do you know what I hate most about myself?
Zhao Xiaoyue shook her head.
Situ Ming said, "Hospital! In the two years between the ages of five and seven, I was hospitalized thirteen times, ten of which were for emergency treatment. The servants only brought me to the hospital when I was about to die."
