After the senior and junior brothers and sisters made a fuss for a while, Ye Shubai said to Su Jiuli, "Senior Brother, do you still remember the Ghost King parents of Junior Uncle that I told you about in the message I sent you before?"
Su Jiuli straightened her expression and nodded: "Of course I remember."
“I’ve met with them before. Although they didn’t say much to me, they definitely know a lot. They made it clear that they have something to say to you after you’re done.”
Su Jiuli and Ye Sisi were not surprised; neither of them were stupid.
Ye Sisi looked around and asked, "Are you seniors nearby?"
Ye Shubai smiled and nodded, then opened a gap in the barrier, and the four ghost kings filed in.
Ye Sisi greeted Xia Changsheng and his wife with a smile, and then looked at the other two Ghost Kings who were not weak in presence.
Both of these ghost kings were men. One was a tall, imposing, and powerfully imposing man, while the other was a thin, small boy who looked quite shrewd.
Xia Changsheng then introduced them, pointing to the tall Ghost King and saying, "This is the tall fellow Daoist Lin Wudi."
Then, pointing to the little boy, the Ghost King said, "This is the mischievous fellow Daoist, Li Han."
Not to mention Ye Sisi, even Su Jiuli, Ouyang Yanyu and Ye Shubai couldn't help but twitch their lips, afraid that they would start fighting before they even started talking. As for Lin Shuangluo and Bai Luochen, they couldn't hold back at all, and they couldn't suppress the twitch of their lips.
Strangely, the two of them didn't seem angry at all, and even nodded to the group.
For some reason, none of them dared to laugh, and the atmosphere inexplicably became solemn.
Seeing this, Xia Changsheng waved his hand, and the black door reappeared in front of him. He smiled and said, "Please, everyone, let's go to my cave to talk."
Seeing that the other three had gone inside, Ye Sisi and the others exchanged glances and followed.
After everyone found seats, Su Jiuli said, "Seniors, please speak frankly."
Zheng Xiangyi couldn't help but smile. Dao Hao held a teacup for the mischievous Ghost King and said, "You guys are quite bold. Aren't you afraid of not being able to come back?"
Su Jiuli smiled without saying a word, and the others remained calm as well, leaving the Ghost Kings looking at each other in bewilderment.
Xia Changsheng got straight to the point: "All the ghosts in the Yellow Springs Forbidden Land, including the four of us, are cultivators who died in the war between humans and demons."
Although the six of them didn't show it on the surface, their hearts skipped a beat. None of them had expected that things here would be so big, completely beyond their imagination.
Seeing how calm his fellow disciples were, Xia Changsheng couldn't help but feel a little more admiration in his eyes.
Little did they know that everyone was so shocked that they didn't know how to react. Ye Sisi's mind raced. She had just discussed the origins of the evil spirits with Xiao Liuli, and now she knew the answer. Did it have to be so fast? Actually, she didn't really want to know that much, really.
"We don't really know why we're here, how we got to the Forbidden Land of the Underworld, or why we weren't completely destroyed. In short, there are at least three more places like the Forbidden Land of the Underworld. The only thing we know is that this is a sliver of life left to us by a senior."
The group listened in silence. Xia Changsheng pointed at the tall man and the mischievous boy and said, "Do you know why they have those names?"
All six shook their heads.
"Because apart from me and Xiangyi, they have no memory of their past. They only know that they were once cultivators, and the evil spirits around them were their former companions. The new names were given to them by themselves."
Su Jiuli took the lead in standing up and bowed to the group with her junior brothers and sisters.
"On behalf of all the people, I, a junior, thank you for your great kindness."
Xia Changsheng and the others did not dodge and accepted the courtesy from these younger people.
"Alright, sit down."
After the group sat down again, he continued, “Although we have a sliver of hope, countless innocent lives have died because of us. Even the split of the Heavenly Dao was caused by the war between humans and demons. The demons do not belong to this world, so they will not suffer the backlash from this world. But we are different. We were born here and grew up here, so we must bear the consequences of this world. We are all sinners.”
Ye Sisi was completely confused. If what Xia Changsheng said was true, and all the evil spirits here were predecessors who had sacrificed themselves to resist the demon race, then shouldn't they be heroes who protected the common people? Why had they become sinners?
Xia Changsheng seemed to be able to guess their thoughts and explained, "No matter what our original intentions were, the Heavenly Dao is missing because of us, and this world does not belong to the human race, nor does it belong to the demon race."
The group remained silent, their hearts growing heavy. They understood Xia Changsheng's words: Heaven and Earth do not belong to any one race, but to all living beings.
While Xia Changsheng and others are heroes to humans and demons, they are not to this world itself.
"Alright, that's about all I have to say. Do you have any more questions?"
The senior and junior disciples exchanged glances, then looked at Su Jiuli and Ye Sisi.
Finally, Ye Sisi swallowed hard and said, "Seniors, why didn't you stop us when we were killing the undead?" These were all your former companions, though she only thought the last part to herself.
Xia Changsheng smiled and said, "This is their tribulation, but don't worry, those you kill, or even those killed by cultivators in the past, will come back. There's no need to feel burdened."
Ye Sisi knew that someone capable of orchestrating such a grand scheme would surely have considered these things. She strongly suspected that her arrival here, and even her entry into the Soul Beast Tower, and obtaining the Soul Crossing Scripture and the Buddhist artifact wooden fish, were all pre-arranged by someone.
But she just wanted to come out and relax; she wanted to rest.
