Chapter 11
Jiang Zhuochen paused. Did that mean he couldn't take the other person out with him?
Noticing Jiang Zhuochen's silence, Xu Xing moved his fingers and then placed them on the back of Jiang's neck, gently rubbing it as if trying not to offend the other.
"What's wrong?"
Jiang Zhuochen glanced around and said in a low voice, "No, I'm going out tomorrow too."
"Where are we going?" Xu Xing asked.
“The next city,” Jiang Zhuochen replied. “An acquaintance of mine contacted me and asked me to help his friend.”
Jiang Zhuochen gave the address, and Xu Xing ran his fingertip through his hair, relieved.
"What a coincidence, I'm also going there on a business trip tomorrow."
Jiang Zhuochen suddenly looked up, his eyes reflecting the light from the overhead chandelier. "Really? How about we go together tomorrow?"
Xu Xing naturally agreed.
Although it was the same city, the two people ultimately went to different destinations.
Jiang Zhuochen stood in the luxurious hotel lobby, his gaze sweeping across the restaurant to his left, finally settling on the name of a certain county and village on the note in his hand. He decisively chose to stay with Xu Xing and headed off to get his little cake.
Seeing that he liked it, Xu Xing took him to the presidential suite to put down his luggage, and then they went to the restaurant for a meal. Afterwards, they asked the waiter to pack up two small cakes and bring them up.
He placed the cake on the coffee table in front of them. "It's getting late. There's nothing you can do over there. Why don't you go tomorrow?"
Jiang Zhuochen remembered the video Wu Duo had sent him two hours earlier. His grandmother in the video didn't seem to be in any immediate danger, so he wasn't worried. "Okay, what about you?"
"I need to go out for a bit later."
Jiang Zhuochen's gaze fell on the cake. "So you don't have time to eat it?"
"Okay, you eat it." Xu Xing didn't point it out. "Don't waste it."
Jiang Zhuochen straightened his back a bit and waved to Xu Xing eagerly. "Go early and come back early, be careful."
The next day, Xu Xing went out early to inspect the work. Jiang Zhuochen woke up and missed meeting him. Worried that he might disturb him while he was busy, he didn't tell him and went to Wu Duo's hometown alone.
Wu Duo and Chen Sheng were already waiting at the gate, each of them warmly helping Jiang Zhuochen walk inside.
Jiang Zhuochen asked them to lead the way. The newly built villa in his hometown was located in a place with stable energy gathered by the mountains behind it, and it was also close to a water source, which was considered auspicious in terms of feng shui. After touring around, Jiang Zhuochen entered the villa.
"Come and sit down," Wu Duo invited him to take a seat. "Did you notice anything?"
"The feng shui here is fine," Jiang Zhuochen replied. "Where is your grandmother?"
Wu Duo stood up. "Wait a moment, let me ask her to come out."
After Wu Duo left, Chen Sheng leaned over and whispered to Jiang Zhuochen, "Grandma has been acting strangely lately, so you'd better be careful."
"What's there to be afraid of with her old bones?" Jiang Zhuochen said dismissively.
The elderly woman, bewildered, was helped out by Wu Duo. She was dressed loosely and appeared to be in good spirits with clear eyes.
The old woman entered the hall, and her expression turned cold upon seeing Jiang Zhuochen. She questioned Wu Duo, "Who is he? Why did you bring a stranger back?"
"Grandma, this is my new friend," Wu Duo introduced to the old woman.
Jiang Zhuochen remained calm and slowly said, "Hello, Grandma. Wu Duo told me that the scenery here is particularly beautiful, so I came to admire it."
“There’s no scenery that can’t be seen.” The old man said in a serious tone, “You wouldn’t be deliberately getting close to my Xiaoduo because he’s rich, would you?”
Wu Duo hurriedly opened his mouth to explain, but Jiang Zhuochen beat him to it. "How do you know I'm poorer than your family? It was the first time we met, and Grandma seemed to dislike me? Why?"
"You're obviously a wicked person, always up to crooked tricks," the old man said without hesitation. "Go away, don't corrupt these two children."
"I'm not leaving." Jiang Zhuochen said, sitting back down in his seat and resting his hands on the armrests. "It's not like you invited me here."
The old man was so angry that his blood boiled, and he raised his cane to strike. "Look at you, so disrespectful to the elderly and so rude! How could you have such a friend? I'm ashamed of you! Get him out of here right now!"
"Wow." Jiang Zhuochen stepped back, adding fuel to the fire, "I heard you fell and weren't feeling well a while ago, but I didn't expect you to recover so quickly, you're already running around."
The old woman shoved Wu Duo and Chen Sheng, who came to help her, and pointed her cane at Jiang Zhuochen. "Go away, I don't want to see you!"
Wu Duo had a headache, so he asked Chen Sheng to stay with Jiang Zhuochen while he helped his grandmother back to her room.
Jiang Zhuochen and Chen Sheng sat casually at the door, and Chen Sheng gave him a thumbs up.
"Wow, Brother Jiang, you're amazing!" Chen Sheng exclaimed admiringly. "I've never seen Grandma walk so nimbly before."
Jiang Zhuochen accepted the praise without a second thought, "Go ahead and try to provoke her; she might even jump up and hit you."
"Hahahaha." After laughing, Chen Sheng covered his mouth and said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, that was so disrespectful to my elders."
Jiang Zhuochen glanced at him but didn't reply.
After calming the old woman down, Wu Duo walked over and sighed, "I'm sorry, Grandma wasn't this agitated before."
Jiang Zhuochen didn't care; he understood as soon as he saw the old man.
“It’s not your grandmother’s fault. She’s in such a hurry to get rid of me because she’s afraid of me…” He hesitated before speaking, “It’s probably the little ghost inside her that’s afraid of me.”
"What brat?"
"Is she possessed by a ghost?!"
Hearing the two speak in unison, Jiang Zhuochen continued, "Yes, there's a ghost baby perched on her shoulder. Her recent abnormal behavior is caused by it."
"That's terrifying." Chen Sheng rubbed the goosebumps that had risen on his arms.
“How can it just possess someone like that?” Jiang Zhuochen laughed. “Because his lifespan was coming to an end, the fall gave it a perfect opportunity to sneak into the old man’s body.”
Wu Duo looked worried. "What should we do then?"
It rained for several days in a row, so even when the sun is out now it's not very hot. Especially since the three of them are sitting in the breeze, the natural wind makes them feel so comfortable that they want to lie down.
Jiang Zhuochen's face was a little itchy from the strands of hair. He raised his hand to smooth his hair and asked slowly, "Do you have any abandoned babies in your family?"
“I’m not too sure about that.” Wu Duo pondered. “My family went out to develop with my father when I was young and we don’t come back often. I only know that my branch of the family has never abandoned a baby. I don’t know about the others.”
"Then go ask your dad or other people if this has ever happened in the collateral branches of the family."
"what happen?"
Just as Jiang Zhuochen finished speaking, a rough male voice came from the garage. Everyone looked towards the source of the sound and saw that it was Wu Duo's father coming out of the garage.
Wu Duo stepped forward and quietly explained to his father, only to be met with a disapproving look from Wu Chengjun. He said that if anyone was to be found, it should be him. What was the point of calling a mere kid?
He stared intently, about to tell the other person to go back quickly, but stopped when he saw Jiang Zhuochen's face clearly.
He had seen this person around Li Hui before. He had noticed this kid twice when he went to Li Hui's company to discuss business, and Li Hui paid a lot of attention to him.
Although Li Hui didn't say it explicitly, everyone knew that his unusually unlucky months and sudden return to a rosy complexion were definitely related to this child. And now, his son had also been brainwashed into believing it once again, causing him to waver somewhat.
He hesitated for a moment, thinking that he wouldn't lose anything anyway, so he might as well trust him this once, and if it didn't work out, he could just find someone else.
"Okay, I'll look into the abandoned baby matter for you and get back to you as soon as possible."
"Thank you, Dad!" Wu Duo beamed.
After seeing Wu Chengjun off, Wu Duo and Chen Sheng stared at him intently, as if asking if there was anything else to do.
They are also not afraid of death at all.
Jiang Zhuochen stood up and stepped back to face the villa. The feng shui of his old home was clearly unfavorable to evil spirits. He couldn't understand why the ghost baby would return here. Before finding out the truth, Jiang Zhuochen decided to investigate the surrounding environment.
Where are your family's ancestral graves?
Wu Duo stood up decisively, patted his pants, and said, "I'll take you there."
The ancestral graves are located in one of the mountains behind the villa. They're not exactly close, but they're difficult to reach by car, so you have to walk there.
Half an hour later, Jiang Zhuochen stood in front of Wu Duo's ancestral grave, his brow furrowed slightly. The grave was filled with an overwhelming yin energy, so thick that the hill was almost invisible, and the surrounding area was lush with greenery.
Wu Duo scratched his head. "I heard my dad say that the weeds around the ancestral graves have been growing very fast in the past two years. It's probably because it's in the mountains and there's plenty of rain, so it's growing fast."
Jiang Zhuochen countered, "Did your family's ancestral graves only start receiving sufficient rainfall in the last two years?"
Seeing that the other party realized it, he continued, "It was done by a ghost baby. Most of the weeds growing on the ancestral grave are thatch and gray grass. These two kinds of grass have heavy yin energy and will devour the good fortune that this feng shui treasure land brings to you, causing your family to be tainted with bad luck."
Jiang Zhuochen plucked a blade of grass and handed it over, saying, "We need to keep weeding the ancestral graves during this period."
"Okay." Wu Duo wrote it down carefully. "I'll tell my dad when I get back."
Jiang Zhuochen suggested, "If you have nothing to do, you can pull them out with Chen Sheng now."
Chen Sheng was stunned. "You don't want us anymore?"
"Don't say such harsh things." It made him look like a heartless man, and his pitiful faces made him feel quite embarrassed. "Following you won't do any good; you might as well find something to do yourselves."
Jiang Zhuochen turned and left. The problem with the ancestral graves alone was not serious enough; he needed to observe the layout of the entire area.
But since he couldn't fly openly in this world, he had no choice but to choose a tree directly opposite his ancestral graves and hometown and climb it.
Xu Xing hurried to finish his trip as noon approached, intending to take Jiang Zhuochen out for lunch. However, when he returned to the hotel, Jiang Zhuochen was nowhere to be found, and he couldn't reach him by phone. He roughly knew where Jiang Zhuochen had gone, but the feeling of not being able to contact him was unsettling.
Xu Xing's face was ashen. He sent someone to check the address and then drove there.
Wu Chengjun was still on the phone at the door when two cars suddenly appeared in front of him. When he saw Xu Xing get out of the car, he hurriedly said to the person on the other end of the phone, "Let's talk next time," and then went to greet him.
"Mr. Xu, what brings you here?"
It turned out to be a request from an acquaintance. Xu Xing nodded in greeting and asked, "Is Jiang Zhuochen with you?"
Wu Chengjun repeatedly said yes, then cautiously asked, "Did General Manager Xu come here to see that child?"
Xu Xing hummed in agreement. "Where is he now?"
Wu Chengjun honestly replied, "My son just told me that they went to the ancestral graves on the back mountain."
"Not back yet?"
"Yes, they said the child left on his own, and they would wait for him to come back for dinner together."
Xu Xing laughed in exasperation. It was already so late and they still hadn't come back for dinner. What kind of monster was making him go through all this trouble?
He tilted his head to the side and ordered, "Go to the back mountain to find someone."
