Chapter 226 Ahead Lies the Abyss

Ji Zhinan looked at the old man and asked, "You know this too, but you're still alive."

“I was the only one who survived, and it was your mother who did everything she could to push me out of that deep pit.”

It brought back memories of events from over twenty years ago; it all felt like something out of a movie.

The events of that time repeatedly challenged his understanding of the world in his middle age, making him realize that there was such a dark side to this world, something he had never experienced before...

"Nan Nan, that's a deep pit, Grandpa can't watch you jump in... Be good, forget all the bad memories after today. You're my granddaughter, the true second young lady of the Ji family. As long as you want it, the company, the inheritance, are all yours..."

Tears streamed down Old Master Ji's face, his voice dropping two octaves: "They were originally yours..."

The company, the estate, it all belongs to her...

Ji Zhinan grinned broadly.

These were never what she wanted.

“You said you were the only survivor in that deep pit, so what about them…” Ji Zhinan added, his lips trembling, “My… father and mother.”

She tilted her head back to stop her tears from falling.

Taking a deep breath, she continued, "Are they dead too?"

"..." Old Master Ji fell silent.

Perhaps silence was the most direct answer he gave Ji Zhinan.

Ji Zhinan tried to smile, but as he tried, he realized he couldn't smile at all.

Her eyes were frighteningly red, but she stubbornly refused to shed a single tear.

The emotions seemed to have been building up to their limit, and in that instant... they exploded.

Ji Zhinan paced around the lounge in frustration, then grabbed the cosmetics from the dressing table and threw them hard onto the floor.

She growled, "What makes you think I can't do it? You haven't even let me try! You managed to climb out of that pit, so can I!"

She giggled again, with a slightly sinister tone.

"And what right do you have to make me forget, to make me act like a fool for the next few decades, ignoring that matter until I die!"

Two lifetimes... Her past has entangled her for two entire lifetimes!

She would never give up. She was gambling with the life God had given her. Even if there was an abyss ahead, she would jump in and find out whether the pit was a fire pit or a water pit!

"That's because I've been there!"

The old man's snort instantly calmed the agitated Ji Zhinan.

"..."

"I went through a year of living a life worse than death, constantly living in fear, wandering from place to place, with no end in sight and a dark road ahead..."

The old man still can't bear to think about how he survived those agonizing days. If it weren't for Nan Nan's mother protecting him, he probably would have died more than 20 years ago. How could he have been so fortunate to live such a good life for so many years...

Looking at Ji Zhinan who had quieted down, the old man took a deep breath and gritted his teeth: "If you still consider me your grandfather, then forget everything. I'll say it again: I promised your mother that I would take you away from that darkness and never let you step into it again... Even if you hate me for the rest of your life, I will never utter a word to you again."

The old man closed his eyes in pain, refusing to utter another word.

Hilton Hotel exterior entrance —

Everything that happened inside the venue was blocked by that door and hadn't yet been heard. A black Rolls-Royce stopped at the hotel entrance, and a male waiter at the door bowed ninety degrees to greet it.

[I don't care, I wrote up to the point where the male lead appeared, I didn't break my promise!]
