Ji Zhinan was led downstairs to the living room by Madam Gu, where a pile of red items were placed on the coffee table.
There was also a huge Christmas tree next to it, more than three meters tall, taking up a lot of space, placed near the heater.
The tree was decorated with colorful lights and powered on, and the Christmas tree was also decorated with gift boxes of all sizes, each wrapped differently.
The maids were excitedly chatting together when they saw Madam Gu bring Ji Zhinan down. They immediately quieted down and greeted her respectfully in unison, "Hello, Miss Ji."
Ji Zhinan nodded slightly, "Hello."
Mrs. Gu pulled her to sit on the sofa next to her, picked up a couplet from the coffee table, and said excitedly, "You've been living in China all this time. I heard that people in China put up couplets and paper-cut window decorations during the New Year. I personally picked out these designs. What do you think? Do you like them?"
In Country Y, the New Year is Christmas in China. The Gu family already has a Christmas tree and also puts up couplets, creating a blend of Chinese and Western styles.
Ji Zhinan smiled and said, "This is Y country, so just put up some Christmas-themed decorations."
“That won’t do,” Madam Gu said. “You are Chinese, so we must respect Chinese traditions.”
After a pause, Madam Gu looked at Ji Zhinan and asked, "Don't you like what I picked out?"
As she spoke, she tossed the couplets onto the coffee table: "Then let's hurry out and buy what you like, Christmas is the day after tomorrow."
Ji Zhinan felt a warmth in his heart and pulled Madam Gu, who was trying to stand up.
Madam Gu turned to look at her.
"It's beautiful." She said, "I really like it. The paper-cut window decorations are pretty, and the Chinese knots are especially beautiful."
Mrs. Gu scrutinized her expression and asked seriously, "Really?"
Ji Zhinan nodded.
Seeing her sincere expression, and knowing she wasn't lying, Madam Gu breathed a sigh of relief, and her smile returned: "I'm glad you like it."
"Um."
………
While Gu Yibei was talking to his father upstairs, Madam Gu, along with Ji Zhinan and the servants, decorated the living room.
Apart from the Christmas tree, everything else had a Chinese flavor: red paper-cut window decorations, red couplets, red "Fu" characters, and red Chinese knots. At a glance, everything was dazzling red, making it look exceptionally festive.
In the evening, the maid prepared a large and sumptuous dinner to welcome Ji Zhinan and Gu Yibei.
Sitting at the white dining table, Gu Yibei was next to Ji Zhinan.
The maid brought water for washing hands. After washing and drying hands, the maid thoughtfully set out the tableware.
This was the first time Ji Zhinan had met Gu Yibei's father, who was much younger than he had imagined.
His eyebrows and eyes were five parts similar to Gu Yibei's, but his temperament was completely different from Gu Yibei's. Although Gu Yibei was calm and composed, he still had the feeling of youth, while Gu Yibei's father had passed his youth and had a steady and mature feeling.
It has to be said that the father and son are quite similar in some ways. The father is stern and rarely smiles, and his face is often expressionless. He also speaks very coolly.
Only when he saw Madam Gu would his lips, which were pressed into a straight line, curve slightly upwards, and a hint of a smile appear in his eyes.
"This is Nan Nan, whom I've told you about many times. She's our son's girlfriend in China. Isn't she beautiful!"
Mr. Gu and Gu Yibei were not particularly eloquent people to begin with, and Ji Zhinan was also not very talkative. Fortunately, Mrs. Gu was there to liven up the atmosphere at the dinner table, making it less awkward.
