Chapter 416 Mind Your Own Business

The six words, spoken in a calm tone, were like a loud and harsh slap across Mrs. Wagner's face.

Mrs. Wagner's expression changed drastically. Her face darkened, and her tone turned colder: "Miss Ji, you should watch your words. My Chinese teacher is a professor of Chinese studies. He is Chinese. How dare you question my Chinese?"

Ji Zhinan lifted her skirt and returned to her seat. According to standard aristocratic etiquette, one should only sit on two-thirds of a stool to appear more refined; sitting on the entire stool is considered very impolite.

She took the hot towel from the maid and carefully wiped her fingers.

Although she was a commoner, she performed these actions casually and simply, without any sense of pretense or falsehood. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought she was a descendant of nobility.

After wiping his hands, Ji Zhinan picked up the black tea in front of him and took a leisurely sip.

After finishing her drink, she calmly met Mrs. Wagner's angry gaze and, as usual, gave a perfectly standard, flawless smile.

"If I remember correctly, Mrs. Wagner just said, 'If Miss Ji is willing to give up Young Master Gu and return him to my daughter'?"

Mrs. Wagner thought about it carefully, realizing she had indeed said that, and nodded: "Is there a problem?"

Ji Zhinan put the black tea back on the table, rested his chin on his hand, and looked at her with a puzzled expression: "May I ask if Miss Wagner and Gu Yibei had ever dated before?"

Mrs. Wagner shook her head: "No."

If his daughter had actually gotten Gu Yibei back then, he wouldn't be so jealous of this commoner woman in front of him now.

She still can't believe that her beautiful and noble daughter lost to a commoner who had no money, no power, and only a captivating face!

"..." Having received the answer he expected, Ji Zhinan suddenly smiled.

Unlike an elegant lady who purses her lips and smiles softly, she doesn't laugh with restraint. Instead, she lets out a very hearty chuckle, laughing out loud without any regard for propriety.

Mrs. Wagner's face immediately darkened: "Miss Ji, what do you mean?"

Among the nobility, laughing heartily was considered extremely impolite.

Ji Zhinan smiled and looked at her: "Since Miss Wagner has never dated Gu Yibei, why did Mrs. Wagner use the word 'still'?"

"..."

"My relationship with Gu Yibei is our own business. It is my honor to have Mrs. Gu's approval. After I marry into the Gu family, my husband will be Gu Yibei and my mother-in-law will be Duchess Gu. Does Mrs. Wagner have any connection with the Gu family?"

"..."

“Before I came to Y country, Gu Yibei specifically told me about the Gu family, and naturally mentioned the Gu family’s relatives. I don’t think I heard from Gu Yibei that the Gu family and the Wagner family have any relationship. From what you just said, I can tell that Mrs. Wagner is a very kind-hearted person.”

She's so enthusiastic that she wants to meddle in everything; to use a Chinese saying, she's a busybody.

Ji Zhinan looked at her with a big smile.

Without getting angry or being sarcastic, Ji Zhinan acted as if nothing had happened, displaying the elegance expected of an aristocrat perfectly. With just three simple sentences, he left the noblewoman speechless.

Compared to Mrs. Wagner, whose face was now as black as coal, Ji Zhinan appeared very polite.

"!!!" Mrs. Wagner felt a tightness in her chest, wanting to say something, but then realized that Ji Zhinan was right.
