Ji Zhinan shook her head; she had no appetite.
Eddie couldn't be coaxed no matter what he did, and he was getting really anxious.
Luo Shi pulled out a chair next to the bed and sat down, speaking gently.
"Nan Nan, I want to tell you about your aunt, do you want to listen?"
Ji Zhinan was immediately drawn to his attention and turned to look at him.
Luo Shi smiled and pointed to the porridge in Eddie's hand: "I'll tell you after you finish eating."
Fearing she wouldn't believe him, Luo Shi added, "I never lie."
Ji Zhinan remained silent for a few seconds, then silently opened his mouth.
Seeing that his sister was finally cooperating, Eddie quickly fed her.
Luo Shi's method was undeniably effective, and Ji Zhinan finished every last drop of the porridge.
Looking at the empty thermos, Eddie finally breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as they eat, that's good.
After finishing his meal, Ji Zhinan looked at Luo Shi with a hint of urgency in his eyes.
Luo Shi took a wet wipe out of his pocket, unwrapped it, and wiped her mouth.
He threw the wet wipe into the trash can and sat down again.
“My father once told me that my aunt was not a very emotional person. Perhaps because of her family background, she didn’t have many friends and was always cold to others. The only person who could make her laugh was my mother, and they had a very good relationship.”
“When I was about four or five years old, more than 20 years ago, my grandfather, your maternal grandfather, suddenly passed away. His children began to fight for power and profit, and my father was one of them.”
"I don't need to say more, you can imagine it. In the struggle for power among the wealthy, it's either you die or I die. As one family falls, soon only a handful of power-seizing individuals remain, including my father and Luo Yan."
“For them, power is the most important thing, and family ties are very cheap to them. But it was different for my father. At the beginning of his life, the only person who was important to him was his aunt, and later he had me and my mother.”
"To prevent anyone from targeting us, my father used a method to conceal our whereabouts and sent us out of the United States. My mother and I were sent to a safe country, while my aunt was sent to China."
Upon hearing this, Ji Zhinan's eyes flickered, indicating that he understood.
If I'm not mistaken, to avoid the harm caused by the Luo family's power grab, my uncle sent my mother to China. In the same year, my father came to China, and that's how we met.
"And then what?" Ji Zhinan only wanted to know what happened next.
Eddie brought back a basin of hot water from outside. Luo Shi soaked a clean towel in the water, wrung it out, and gently wiped her slightly cool hands.
“My mother and I stayed in that country under different names for two or three years, during which time we did not contact my aunt. During those two or three years, all the other heirs died, leaving only Luo Yan. Luo Yan has been secretly sending people to investigate our whereabouts, trying to use us to threaten my father.”
“My mother and I were protected in time by the people my father sent, but Luo Yan seems to have found out about my aunt and sent people to China to hunt her down.”
"When Father's men found Aunt, she was on the verge of death. Most of Luo Yan's men thought Aunt was dead, so they retreated."
After wiping her hands, Luo Shi sat down, warmed her hands, and continued.
"My aunt was rushed to the emergency room and, thankfully, pulled through. However, she was emotionally unstable after waking up. The doctor said she had suffered a severe head injury and her memory was disordered. She couldn't even tell whether her memories were real or just her imagination."
"The doctor's advice to us at the time was to use hypnosis and start over."
