Chapter 82 Who's the best at fishing? The King of Foxes
Two more days have passed.
Jiang Sui stared at the latest "bait" data sent from Sun Zhicheng's private email address on the screen, his brows furrowed.
"Something's not right. Sun Zhicheng used his own privately registered email address to send encrypted business data, and chose a free service with security as low as a sieve? What's the difference between this and shouting 'Come and get me' through a megaphone?"
Xiao Huang pushed up his glasses: "You mean... he's trying to bait us?"
"He was testing whether someone was investigating him, or... trying to distract us with a feint so he could secretly conduct a real deal."
"What should we do then? Keep waiting?"
"I'm not waiting anymore."
Jiang Sui said decisively, "Call the police. We're going to the northern suburbs tonight."
Xiao Huang said, "But we've only narrowed it down to a three-kilometer radius, we don't have the exact address!"
Jiang Sui pulled up a map and pointed to an old residential area. "I have a friend who works as a real estate agent there. He said that last week someone rented two one-bedroom apartments here, under the names Yang Xin and Feng Wanwan."
"Yang Xin? Wu Yuzhou's wife?" Xiao Huang seemed to realize something. "Who is Feng Wanwan?"
"Wu Yuzhou's lover."
As Jiang Sui spoke, she tapped the map, "Guess... does Sun Zhicheng go there every Monday and Wednesday to see the night view?"
At the same time, in the northern suburbs of Yu'an.
Sun Zhicheng parked his car two streets away and walked into the old neighborhood built in the 1990s. Several streetlights were broken, and the stairwells were filled with the mixed smells of food and dampness.
When he reached the entrance of the building, he didn't rush in. Instead, he took out an old-fashioned feature phone and dialed a number.
"I have arrived."
The voice on the other end of the phone was deep: "Keep the stuff in the usual place."
Sun Zhicheng stuffed his phone back into his inner pocket, glanced warily behind him, and quickly went upstairs.
The window of the apartment at the far left on the fourth floor was slightly ajar. He pulled a palm-sized hard drive from his pocket, stuffed it in, and then immediately turned and went downstairs.
Just as he stepped out of the building, a tall, dark figure suddenly blocked his way.
Under the dim streetlights, Jiang Sui, wearing a black coat, stood with his hands in his pockets, looking as if he were just passing by.
"Mr. Sun, what a coincidence!"
Sun Zhicheng was taken aback at first, but then forced himself to remain calm and chuckled twice: "Jiang Sui? After disappearing for so long, you've finally decided to show yourself?"
Jiang Sui took half a step forward, blocking Sun Zhicheng's path. "If you don't show yourself, you won't catch the thief."
Sun Zhicheng's expression changed. "What do you mean?"
Jiang Sui smiled faintly, "You go to the R&D center every Friday night, and you care about that database even more than I do."
"I...I'll go check on the test results." Sun Zhicheng stubbornly insisted.
“Nothing much. We all work together at Feiyang, so it’s normal to care. But…” Jiang Sui sneered, took two steps closer to him, and took out her phone to turn on the screen: “Why did you delete the entry and exit records and copy the logs?”
Sun Zhicheng's pupils contracted sharply, and he subconsciously took a half step back, only to bump into the cold apartment door.
When...did you start to doubt me?
"From the very first time you tampered with the database," Jiang Sui put away his phone, his tone turning cold, "Feiyang treated you well, didn't they? President Luo treated you well too, didn't he? Why did you do this?"
Sun Zhicheng's forehead veins bulged, and he suddenly erupted in rage: "Stop pretending to be high and mighty! I've been with Feiyang for ten years. The first and second phases of the smart tourism project, and that database, should all have been mine! What right do you, a brat who's only been here for a few years, have to step on my head?! Let me tell you, I sold the data a long time ago! The Feiyang Phase II project is doomed to fail, and you can just wait to get out of here!"
Jiang Sui watched him vent his anger, then slowly said, "The data you sold before was all fake. I changed the core parameters and algorithm logic. If you use it, the system will crash, which is the least of your worries."
Sun Zhicheng's face turned pale instantly, and his lips trembled as he was unable to speak.
“However,” Jiang Sui raised his chin and looked upstairs, “the hard drive you just put in contained the latest data copied from the R&D center’s No. 3 machine, right? That was the ‘real stuff’ that President Luo specially prepared for you, enough to convict you.”
The words had barely left his mouth when a clear banging sound and shouts came from upstairs: "Police! Don't move!"
Sun Zhicheng shuddered, realizing he had been tricked from beginning to end. A ruthless glint flashed in his eyes, and he suddenly pulled a wrench from his pocket and swung it at Jiang Sui. The wrench grazed Jiang Sui's forehead, leaving a deep bloody mark.
Jiang staggered back a few steps, and Sun Zhicheng took the opportunity to push him to the ground and run away.
Suddenly, blinding headlights came from afar, and the car tires crunched over the snow with a sharp "squeak". The car then swerved and blocked the entrance. Sun Zhicheng couldn't dodge in time, slipped, and fell to the ground.
Luo Muyang jumped out of the car, rushed over, and grabbed Sun Zhicheng by the collar: "Sun Zhicheng, you bastard! I poached you from the outsourcing company back then, and this is how you repay me?! You dare to hit me?! Do you think I'm Hello Kitty if I don't show my power?!"
At this moment, the police escorted a man downstairs. It was Chen Zhaoli, the head of the R&D department of Mingsheng, who was still clutching the encrypted hard drive in his hand, his face ashen.
Upon seeing this, Sun Zhicheng completely collapsed.
In the interrogation room, the stark white light shone on Wu Yuzhou's face. He squinted uncomfortably as he looked at the two serious-looking police officers opposite him.
"Why are you arresting me? The data is all fake; there's not enough evidence to convict me!"
"As expected of a lawyer..."
One of the policemen gave a cold laugh, picked up a black hard drive with an evidence label on it, and said, “Fake data can’t lead to a conviction, of course. However, after comparison by our technical center and Feiyang, we have confirmed that the data on this hard drive is genuine.”
Wu Yuzhou's disdainful expression instantly froze on his face.
"Impossible... Jiang Sui clearly told Sun Zhicheng... those that were sent out were all fake!"
"The ones that were initially sent out were indeed fake, but the data on the hard drive found at the transaction site is genuine. Moreover, Sun Zhicheng has confessed that you took advantage of his eagerness to suppress Jiang Sui and rise to power, instigating him to steal Feiyang's data and sell it to Chen Zhaoli of Mingsheng through you, with you taking a cut from both sides."
"..."
Wu Yuzhou was silent for a moment, then suddenly tried to stand up, but was handcuffed and unable to move. His face was contorted as if he were both crying and laughing.
"I know, it's Jiang Sui... it's Jiang Sui! He schemed against me! He's been scheming against me from beginning to end!"
The two policemen exchanged a glance and said nothing more.
The hospital emergency room smelled strongly of disinfectant.
Jiang Sui had three stitches in her forehead wound, and there was a large bruise on her shoulder from the fall. Luo Muyang paced anxiously beside her.
"Luckily it's not serious. If anything happened to you, Yanyan would fight me to the death!"
Jiang Sui touched the gauze on her forehead: "It's nothing, just a superficial injury."
Even a superficial wound is still a wound!
Luo Muyang glared at him, then sighed, "Well done this time. Chen Zhaoli completely backed down, saying he encountered a technical bottleneck he couldn't overcome, and the bidding pressure for the Linzhou project was too great. Wu Yuzhou offered him a 'pillow' and he couldn't resist the temptation... That kid Wu Yuzhou even wanted to use this to pledge his loyalty to Jiang Qiming. Humph, his ambitions are higher than the sky, but his fate is thinner than paper!"
Jiang Sui then asked, "How is he now?"
"The police said he had a breakdown and was emotionally unstable. He has been taken into custody and is awaiting further interrogation."
Luo Muyang sat down on the chair next to him and rubbed his face: "After working on this for so long, it's finally solved... Don't take such risks next time, you scared the hell out of me."
“President Luo,” Jiang Sui suddenly spoke, his tone earnest, “thank you.”
Luo Muyang waved his hand, "If you really want to thank me, then hurry up and get well soon and go back to work! The second phase of the project is still waiting for you. I'm exhausted from acting with you for so long!"
Jiang Sui smiled but didn't reply, looking towards the door.
Jiang Qiming appeared out of nowhere, carrying a fruit basket that seemed out of place with his suit.
Luo Muyang stood up. "Chairman Jiang, what a rare guest! Come, have a seat!"
Jiang Qiming ignored him and focused his gaze on Jiang Sui's forehead. "How is he?"
"I won't die," Jiang Sui replied calmly.
The father and son stared at each other for two seconds, and the atmosphere became a little tense.
Luo Muyang looked at this person, then at that person, and wisely slipped out, saying, "I'm going to buy some drinks. You guys chat first."
Jiang Qiming placed the fruit basket on the bedside table. "Mingsheng will fully cooperate with the police investigation into Chen Zhaoli's matter, and those responsible will be held accountable."
"Mm," Jiang Sui replied.
Silence again.
After a long silence, Jiang Qiming spoke again: "If your mother knew that you took such a big risk and got injured, she would be worried."
Jiang Sui's fingertips trembled slightly.
"She used to say that I'm the kind of person who easily offends people."
Looking out at the dark night, Jiang Qiming's profile showed a rare weariness under the lamplight. "She's right. I have indeed offended a lot of people in my life... including my son."
Jiang Sui didn't look up; her throat felt tight.
"Stay wherever you want."
Jiang Qiming turned around, and there seemed to be something else in his usually indifferent eyes. "I'm too lazy to bother with you anymore, but don't expect me to help you if you suffer a loss." After saying that, he turned to leave.
"Dad," Jiang Sui suddenly called out to him, looking at the expensive fruit basket, "Don't buy it next time, I don't like fruit."
Jiang Qiming gave a soft "hmm," didn't turn around, and slowly walked out.
Luo Muyang returned carrying three cups of hot milk tea, passing by Jiang Qiming.
"Your dad's face... is he alright?"
"fine."
Jiang Sui took the milk tea, inserted the straw, and took a sip. "President Luo, I need to add a module to the second phase of the project."
"Add what?"
"The real-time data security traceability system—this time it was a sting operation; next time, I'll make sure thieves can't even touch the fishing rod."
Luo Muyang slapped him on the shoulder: "You're something else!"
Jiang Sui gasped in pain.
Luo Muyang quickly let go of her hand: "Oh, I'm so sorry! I forgot you hurt your shoulder, I... I'll go get the doctor!" After saying that, he hurriedly ran out.
Jiang Sui took out his phone, looked at the chat box with Luo Yan, and sighed heavily.
The next hurdle is much harder than catching spies.
